I didn't notice it but they would make sense to even out the speed due to removing the stamina bar.
It's slower than spamming the 1 key like you do now.
But there's no stamina bar, which means the attack speed is consistent. There won't be a time when you have to wait for your stamina bar to recharge in order to attack.
In theory, it should balance out.
You had to go a slow speed to begin with if you liked having stamina. The speed is normal for auto attack plus it's still in development as the post said so there's still tweaking to be done.
Also, it will make slow and haste actually have an effect.
slow and haste already had an effect. it slowed stamina down or speed it up
I thought they had mentioned they were planning on adjusting auto-attack speed so that it made sense for the various weapon types...ie Pug faster than Maruder or some such.
seems like a very consistent natural speed. People are comparing it to ffxi speed, but I play ffxi every day, and trust me when I say that is much faster. Regardless, the speed looks good, for all we know attack damage was increased to make up for lack of spamming speed like we used to.
dmg was increased??? wat?
i dont think we are getting auto attack in 1.18
some people need to re-read what was written about that video
it is an early "test" version of how their work is going on auto attack, in other words...its NOT complete, we arent looking at the finished product
yes, it is much slower than what we use now.
making the game slower? and expect the game will get better?
These forums...
...makes me wonder why Yoshida-P even bothers with it sometimes.
Wow, is 1.18 out already? Who knew?!
makes me wonder why he does too. The whole auto attack system seems like a downgraded slow battle system. This games just going to get trampled over by all the other mmo to come. I mean most people that play this game find it more of a chore. 2 of my rl friends play this, we were also big on ffxi and never once did we really find it a chore to play the game from the time of release to this day. By the time this game even gets slightly good it will be kicked under the curb from the games to come. Only thing this game has going for it is graphics imo. It looks really nice but that quickly changes after playing for a couple hours.
It does look slower to me especially after I upgraded my gpu, I have no battle lag. I thought that maybe it was to give a seamless animation quality from going from auto attack to a spell/ability/weapon skill. PUG seems really slow.
We need haste!
Great video, auto-attack looks awesome and beats the hell out of the 11111111 spam. Looks like i will finally be able to talk in ls chat and fight at the same time.
Attack speed seems to be on a similar level to FF11, but considering that TP is stored, you are managing yout TP bar now instead of your stamina bar.
You can pretty much do like 3 moves with a mere 1k TP(which isn't hard to get in this game), so that in essence is faster.
Basically the attack speed is what you would expect if you automated pressing 1 in-between your routine, and stamina combined with TP to create a single "meter bar".
Add to the re-balanced casting bar, and the timer cool downs, and you got FFXI-2...
Well I'll refrain till I play it, but it sounds fine if not dull. But it's a good start to a battle system that doesn't go crazy.
TP = the bar where you strategy is
Cool down = the place where you consider your options.
I would have pefered for it to be slightly faster cause pug looks so slow compared to it now, but whatever. I'm wondering how delay will be working in this game. I remember playing DRK in ffxi and the delay between attacks was likr 6 seconds and that was awful. Just looking at the video it seems all classes have different speeds. Sword was about 2 secs, h2h was about 1.5, and lance was about 3 seconds. I hope we don't see any weapons past 4 seconds though. I wonder if weapon delay will be displayed on the weapon stats now? I wished they just kept the delay the same across all weapons cause it would be no different DPS wise between DD than it is now.
I should have gone farther:

In implementing auto-attack in 1.18, we’ll also need to make major revisions to enmity algorithms, tweak the motion of certain actions (as seen in the above video), and also rebalance a handful of them—just to list a few battle-related items.
yup. but also mean we have to wait lil longer.
My WAG...
1.18 - Early July (first full week)
1.18a - Late July
1.18b - First week Aug
1.19 - Middle of August
1.19a - End of August
i agree with nylia, i believe 1.2 patch will come when 1 year ff14 release date(september). prabably biggest patch like releasing new jobs and new fields to bring out old players.
Yeah...I figure 5-6 weeks between 1.18 and 1.19 should be enough time to get some tasty goodies in it. And then you can have the same to have a 1.2 mid-end of September.
Lol uh... If 1.19 follows 1.18's trend (and something tells me it will), timewise it might not be out until mid September or October. Don't forget summer doesn't officially end until like September 20th, which leaves them a longass time to release another patch that brings all the other things they mentioned.. This is FF14 we're talking about here >_>
Not to be the bearer of bad news, but my guess is that everything in the Dev comments and Letters is not coming in two patches. On my schedule you could get 1.2 by end of summer (September 21 - Essentially the one year anniversary)
Although you are right...we got 1.17a (it had Guild Tasks and some new Sidequests) on April 25 - that's a full 10 weeks between real patches :(
time is about right. but i dont know i am gonna stay that long. lol
I think the speed is pretty decent considering how much stamina you needed to use certain basic attacks. Though I am in favor of Multi-hits like form previous FF games, like in FFIII, ex. 5-hit.. so on..
And i do know he stated about multi-hits, but im not sure whether its just going to be an animation or have it work like FFIII or FFXI "Double Attack"
its 10x's slower
Whose cares about physical, with the removal of stamina MAGIC SPAM!!!
dev post about the AA speed:
Basically, you guys need to understand that the implementation is happening one step at a time, so be patient. Keep in mind that they're still working under the burden of the animations set up to fit the old battle system, so every aspect of the system needs work.
This is only phase one of the overall plan. We're still in the preliminary phases.
There isn't really anything new that you already didn't read in Matsui's report: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...print?p=138995
Paraphrasing -
Appearance of "slowness" is due to the character motions
Like Matsui said in his battle plan report, auto-attack will be implemented in stages.
1.18 is only the first step, which establishes auto-attack itself in a preliminary state.
After that, they will implement stuff like crowd control adjustments, action/skill balance changes. For stage two, auto-attack will be further refined by revising the algorithms/calculations and more clearly fleshing out the distinctions and characteristics of each weapon. After that is done, they plan to implement revisions in order to match the character animation more closely to the auto-attack timing.
The original animations were meant to be used with the original battle system, so that's why the intervals between attacks feels so slow. They plan to adjust the animations to make it feel faster.
