Open Letter to Naoki Yoshida: When Will Legacy->Non-Legacy World Transfers be Allowed

Dear Director/Producer Yoshida,

This letter is not a request to allow transfers from Legacy worlds to Non-Legacy worlds. This is simply a request to release specific information as to when/if it will become available.

I understand that you and your team have reasons for not allowing this type of transfer, currently. I would like to know when or if they will be allowed in the future, so I can make an informed decision about whether or not to start over with a new character on the Non-Legacy world that my friends are playing on.

I understand that you probably don't have a specific date ready to release or you would have already released it, in this case, can you please provide a date range? For example: 1-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months, longer, or never.

I love Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn! I would love to play with my friends that started on a Non-Legacy world without abandoning my character on a Legacy world. The situation I want to avoid is abandoning my character on the Legacy world, and levelling and gearing up a character on the Non-Legacy world my friends play on, only to find out after investing much time into the Non-Legacy world character that I am now able to transfer my character from the Legacy world.

I've seen this thrown around a lot, and it's kinda what I'm crossing my fingers for, but I've never actually seen where this comes from. Do you happen to have a link to where SE said this? I've given myself a deadline of Feb 28th to make my decision, I just wish we could get some input, or an update if they've already stated something in the past.

This post showcases that the economic situations of the servers would be monitored before a decision was reached about Legacy -> Non-Legacy server transfers.

I find a lot of sources via Google citing "6 months" as a figure and someone even said it was in some "earlier interview" from before August... but not one actually LINKED anything.

I'm taking bets that it won't happen before 2.2 if only because of the recent attempts to get players to spend lots of money on things like Housing and all the weird market fluctuations with changes to gathering, foods, shard availability, and gil coming in from dailies and gil drops. Maaaaybe February at the earliest, which would put it close to that supposed figure.

Well if they're waiting on economies to balance out, they've done a good job effectively tanking both with the latest patch. So it shouldn't be too much longer.

It was in at least two interviews but I really don;t feel like digging for them since I don't remember what month/letter they were. But yea, he said likely around 6months.

I'm far too lazy too look stuff up for you. I want to say it was an announcement or live letter during or before August and I think another announcement in Sep when they were letting everyone know about transfers that started in Oct.

I'd like to reactivate discussion on this topic. I think it is an extremely valid talking point currently as economies of Legacy and Non-Legacy appear to be pretty much spot on exact.

I believe yoshi-p said they'd reexamine the economy after 6 months and make a judgement then?

Besides they already limit the amount of gil and crap you can bring anyways so other than housing prices (if they're not already floored?) and potential personal housing prices, I'm pretty sure nothing is left.

Legacy people still do have a lot of...how do you say.. power structure that can fall over to non legacy as a bad thing.

This has yet to changed.

One look at a legacy server and you see primals with ilvl90 PFs and 10 twin PFs all over the place. A non legacy server you would barely get enough to fill the spot with ilvl80s and probably the same faces over and over again, and forget about pugging twin.

Legacy independently moving around...sure why not, but there would be a very big fear if a large portion decided to dump on another server (and one with cheap housing prices), and just blow that world to bits.

How would they blow the world to bits? You cannot transfer with your money, they have a cap. Even if you were to drop most of your money on crafting mats and transfer with those, You're going to be taking a huge revenue loss, because prices are pretty much the same legacy/non-legacy. They will have to spend months undercutting just to get their gil back. Twin runs are going to wreck the economy? You mean an entire FC of ilvl 90's are going to run people that have never done Twin through and farm a full set of coil gear? Not quite... Twin can be done with ilvl 80 gear and a lv. 90 weapon, the rest is mechanics. There really is no power structure developed on a non-legacy server that does not exist already on a legacy server. I've transfered 3 times, and one of those I tried to keep the majority of my gil by dumping into crafting mats. I can tell you first hand I lost a lot of money in that endeavor.

3 of my friends are currently not playing because their legacy char is stuck in a legacy server. They have pay a month, tried to make new chars in the server I'm playing now, but they rather expend that time on their old chars (I believe everyone here understands that). Then they go and play their legacy chars but get bored a week later because they have no one to play with !! Meanwhile I been building a FC in this non-legacy server, full of nice and awesome people that would be happy to welcome them back into the game.

And yes, I decided for a new server because I figured it would be easier to build a FC on a fresh server than in an already established community, thinking that after a few months they could transfer and we could play together again... but is still not happening !! and the wait is killing us D:

I'd imagine that what they'd have to do is monitor the average personal wealth of characters on both the legacy and non-legacy servers. When the wealth of players on non-legacy servers matches the amount of Gil that a legacy player could reasonably take with them during transfer, then we migh start seeing further dialog from SE regarding legacy transfers. Until then, I'm sure the consistent answer they would give would be 'Not yet'.

6-Months was what had been mentioned on the (deleted) Beta Forums by a couple of the Dev staff. That being as it is, the markets are still not equal, and I'm sure the flood of Transfers from Leg->Non-Leg would just cause a lot of other players the 1017 issues the packed Legacy servers have.

They shoulda just wiped everyone's gil to 0, woulda avoided all these problems. Legacy players lost 90% of their gil anyways, whats another 10%!!

I have an even better question:
what is up with 'offering everyone a chance to world transfer since they may have gotten stuck in a server they didn't want' when you limit just where you CAN go?
I transferred a character from 1.0, and did not get any choice in what server I played in whatsoever. at the time of wanting to transfer worlds, my FC all agreed we wanted to go to a NON legacy server. but we couldn't.
and now that they have -finally- allowed legacy to go non legacy server... it isn't until much later after they make it cost 18$ per transfer. what happened to giving us a chance to go where we wanted in the first place?
not saying it shouldn't cost something, that of course is up to them... but they should have at least allowed us 1 free trip to at least have the chance to take them up on an offer we couldn't use months ago because they restricted it themselves.

I doubt they do anything for this... the best thing you can do is contact support and see if they can they can offer you support for this.

I just transfered from Balmung which is a Legacy server, and I am also a Legacy player, and I have moved to Odin today which is nonlegacy

You did have an option of a free trip between legacy worlds back before 2.0 came out and they announced which 1.0 servers would merge, data centers, etc. I'm sure you already knew that, though. They made it very clear that we could not move to non-legacy for quite some time.
