DPS parsing Black Mage numbers since patch

I am at item level i83. Went from 300-305 Down to about 280-290. Roughly 5 percent due to the awkward mana ticks and having to to resort to using Fire3>Fire1x5>Blizzard 3>Blizzard>Thunder>Repeat. Anyone else seeing comparable numbers with mine, or have a more optimized UI portion I can try? I kinda want to be back in the 300 range, and it is depressing to know outside of a weapon I will not really be able to regain the lost damage.

Any information would be appreciated.

I tested a bunch of rotations and found I can get around 250-300 DPS with single rotation. It's mostly the same as yours, though.

My main rotation is just Fire III > Fire I spam > Blizz III > Thunder II > Repeat. The mana ticks aren't that awkward, though. They just take a little getting used to.

It isn't that much of a damage loss, though. I never notice it in single rotations unless I'm parsing. Only time I notice DPS loss is AoE rotations.

Thunder+Blizzard are too much, I think (you use whole 5s for that). You could use Thunder3 or wait a little after Thunder2 in some cases instead.

You should only use Blizzard if you get the mana tick late in the Thunder cast. Takes a bit getting used to how the UI-AF switch works now and when to use Blizzard, etc.

I parse lower now with full i90 and i95 weapon in 2.1 than I did with relic+1 and full i90 in 2.0, anywhere from 10 - 20 DPS depending on how lucky I get with the much more random MP ticks. I think I generally hit about 300 - 310 now sustained over 5 minutes, though I haven't done much testing at all.

The sustained DPS loss doesn't bother me much, it's hard to notice at all. We're still quite good, though probably 2nd lowest DPS now in fights where everyone can shine (in the fights where melee can shine, anyway). However, the double dip loss and MP regen has me killing adds and mechanics significantly slower, and that to me is when the BLM changes really hit home, since that was (and still is to a lesser extent) our greatest strength outside of being AoE gods (which we still handily are, even nerfed).

Personally, I use Thunder III as part of my rotation. The new mana tick is unreliable and Thunder III is my current solution, heck I even use it on Titan EX and still do very well.

Will cast whichever you have mana to fill, if you cast Thunder 2 or 1, you will need to scathe/blizzard tho.

Scathe should only be used if you're moving, as Blizzard is better DPS.

Only issue is that macro's don't queue up. Hence the reason I went away from this sort of thing.

I have 251 piety, and after doing 5 fire 1s I never have enough mana to do thunder 3. How do you wind up with enough mana to use thunder 3 without only doing 4 fire cast? Thunder 2 requires me to wait or use blizzard after. If I use blizzard after it would have been better to use thunder 1. Am I wrong on this?

99% of the time your waiting for mana ticks anyway, why would not queuing be an issue?

I wish there was a way we could just see the global dot/hot/mana timer. That way we could work around it. With the change it is just so inconsistent now.

actually it seems to happen every eorzean minute which you can see when change your ingame clock

99% of the time I can get insta-ticks. You just need to get used to the buff changes.

I have no issues working around the mana ticks. There was no change to how ticks work, just how we gain the last one. Before the patch we would get our 2nd tick mere seconds before we changed into AF but since we lose UI before that we don't get that 2nd tick anymore.

All you have to do is add an extra GCD after you get your first mana tick (Blizzard, Thunder, Scathe) and you're fine.

What are the more practical numbers looking like? In coil or primals?

If you want to judge any Job DPS, judge it based on Twintania or Titan Ex. Everything else is secondary to these two as they matter the most IMHO.

From what I have seen so far, Excellent MNK out dps everyone second close would be SMNs and third BLM.

Its all dependant on gear, skill and fight limitations.

We do not run with summoners so i cannot comment on they're dps, Monks are stupid op with they're buffs in 2.1 noone can come close to matching they're dps.

On most fights your looking at being number 2 damage wise, both Titan and Twintania should be around 220-250 i would say. Probably higher if you have full set, im currently stuck at ilvl 86 waiting for the legs to drop.....

Umm, BLM should be parsing 280+ on Twintania. Too much AOE during the intiial phase and snakes to drop down to the 200 range, unless the BLM gets excessive stuns/conflags.

Monks are extremely susceptible to bad RNG on Twintania. Their encounter DPS can fluctuate by like 60 from stuns and conflags, nevermind general drops like divebombs.

280+ on twin, wow that IS high. I'm just wondering because I usually parse high or highest in random groups where our gear is all over the place but still doesn't seem as high as I want it to be. In Titan EM I parsed 200-220, in Garuda EM 190 was my absolute highest. I was with a lesser geared BLM and he beat me by 30+ dps in Garuda as well. I know that songs and aoe might have played a role but still. I have not done Twin yet so I can not comment on that sadly.

Humm, Garuda has some variables. Sometimes a BLM can get a good AOE cycle on plumes, sometimes not. Also, comparing different fights isn't very effective. Everyone's total encounter DPS on X Garuda is low due to the raw quantity of phase transitions and other downtime. Titan is more stable, although Gaols will still RNG impact your DPS.

A pure DPS check like Atomos, T2 ADS enrage, or Caduceus is more useful for measuring potential DPS. A fight with consistent mechanics like T2 ADS normal or T1 ADS is good to assess DPS ... with mechanics in a normal fight (e.g. forcing the BLM to move). HM Titan is also good for this. X Titan ... meh, too much Gaol RNG all over the place.

If you spam aoe in p1 and p3 then 280 is easy, but its not optimal. aoe is never optimal unless its 4 mobs. but if u want to pad numbers, flare transpose on the snakes and drakes is an easy way to do it and make urself "look better" while actually taking longer.

Update: closer to 330 - 340 on average now by respeccing to 251 Piety (1 Piety + 29 INT) with SCH in party, and using the standard rotation of Thunder III > Fire spam > Swiftcast Flare > Convert > Fire > Blizzard III > Thunder II > (Fire III > Fire spam > Blizzard III > Thunder II + wait a split second or Blizzard I if far from tick) X N with GCDs added. I think have 251 Piety is more important than ever in 2.1 with the mana ticks so important, so maximizing our UI3 phase is is where we're made or broken.

just stick with thunder II and wait half of a second then cast fire 3. It may seem that you are slowed down because you wait but in reality, it's the best way to deal with the new mp tick.

Most Piety amounts, especially for those in full i90 like many of us by now, won't allow Thunder III after we're done with our Fires and Blizzard III, and it's most certainly a DPS loss to skip a Fire in lieu of Thunder III enabling.

No need to wait at all.

If MP regenerates instantly upon entering umbral phase, you use normal rotation.

If MP doesn't regenerate instantly, you stick a filler spell in there (like scathe or blizzard 2) and continue like normal.

I don't think you understand numbers very well. If you can do more total damage in less time by AOEing (and this has been proven with our sustained aoe rotation on even 2 mobs), it's going to take less time to kill them all collectively- although they will each be up for a longer period individually. But saying it only serves to "pad your numbers while actually taking longer" is just untrue. It will take less time.

also, you might want to watch out about openly talking about "parsing." DPS counting isn't against the rules but there's something violation with a parser that's in the terms of service or some stuff. I think it's because a parser has to read the game or something. All in all, I'd watch out with that word; had a buddy get suspended.

Necessary damage isn't stat padding.

Snakes should be AOE'd until the LB threshold. Wyverns should be AOE'd or multi-dotted.

If you're not, you're doing it wrong. If you hit Twintania enrage because you wasted half a minute using ST DPS for AOE phases, that's your stupidity causing the raid to fail.

If your buddy told you he was suspended for parsing, he lied to you about what he really got suspended for. Parsers are NOT against the ToS because while they do read client sided files in real time, they do not make any modifications to them.
