Monk BiS! Please help!

I'd like to know the best in slot gear for the monk as of 2.1. There are so many options, and idk how important things like accuracy cap and such are; therefore, a calculator for this thing isn't helpful to me. Thus, I am asking you all to explain to me what it is I should be getting for gear. I am totally lost at the moment.

First of all, the above spreadsheet is slightly outdated, as it hasn't taken into account the stat changes for some iLvl 90 gear that 2.1 brought. This does affect Monk, as two of their options are suddenly far better contenders for BiS.

Here's my opinion on a good candidate for a Monk's BiS set. This is assuming the priority of Determination > Crit Rate > Skill Speed

Weapon: Allagan Baghnakhs(As these are iLvl 95 now, they are indisputable BiS)
Head: Allagan Visor of Striking
Body: Melee Cyclas
Gloves: Melee Gloves
Legs: Melee Gaskins
Boots: Allagan Sollerets of Striking(Change in stats in 2.1 makes them no longer equal to Melee Boots)
Neck: Hero's Necklace of Slaying
Waist: Allagan Tassets of Striking
Ear: Allagan Earrings of Maiming
Wrist: Hero's Bracelet of Striking
Ring 1: Allagan Ring of Striking
Ring 2: Allagan Ring of Maiming

This gives the following totals:
Accuracy: 133
Crit Rate: 86
Determination: 127
Skill Speed: 54

Considering that MNK gets about 18% more out of skill speed and somewhere around 20% less out of crit, why would you prioritize crit over skill speed? Autocrits and crit bonuses hamper the value of crit and Greased Lightning is a flat reduction, so it's pretty hard to see how crit could ever come out on top.

Skill speed doesn't affect Auto-attacks and DOTs which is a big chunk of MNK's DPS, while Determination and Critical hit rate do. With too much skill speed, you will find yourself TP starved in longer uninterrupted fights.

I've never missed anything at all with this set so accuracy is fine. This set prioritizes Determination > Crit Rate > Skill Speed(useless)

The Primal jewelry has been taken into account. I consider them to be alternates to any Accessory slot that has Allagan, as ease of acquisition goes Myth -> Primal -> Allagan. My proposed set with the Hellish Claws would have more Accuracy, so some Accuracy centric gear can be replaced. The Chest could be switched to Allagan for more Crit and the Tremor Earrings of Striking can be taken in place of the Allagan Earrings of Maiming for more Crit and Det. The result would be that 45 Crit Rate is added, 10 Determination is added, and 24 Skill Speed is lost. Personally, I'd keep the Chest as Melee so that Skill Speed isn't fatally shafted. We should be equal opportunity players, you know ;)

I consider Crit to be ahead of Skill Speed because having too much Skill Speed will run you dry in longer fights no matter how you try and save your TP. Crit is only number 2 because Internal Release renders a low Crit Rate inconsequential. Additionally, the DPS increase from Crit Rate is reliant on RNG no matter how much you tip the scales toward you. Determination is on top because it increases damage you deal from all sources with no RNG involved. Skill Speed is in third because while I don't think it is useless, I do consider it to be the worst stat to focus on, especially since Greased Lightning III gets our GCD so low anyway. A few hundredths of a second really doesn't matter too much, especially since Twin Strikes has had the buff increased to 15 seconds long.

Here's where personal preference comes into things. For example, I don't consider Skill Speed to be as useless as you suggest it is. The harm is in having too much of it, and I postulate that having too little can be harmful as well. Additionally, just because you claim to have never missed with 469 Accuracy doesn't mean that you could have missed without noticing as such. Granted, 469 is apt to only make you miss "rarely", but lots of people like to guarantee that they won't miss at all.

Conclusion here: Your build is very damaging for those who wish to completely forgo Skill Speed. In addition, a healthy bit of Accuracy food can ensure a no-miss run in Coil. My build has no-miss accuracy without food, so food for increasing Det and Crit can be added instead. I'm no expert on food, but the DPS differences between our two builds is likely negligible when food is put into the equation.

My current BiS. the massive drop in SS usefulness has caused our BiS to change drastically, meaning that currently, no one is really sure what's the overall best. And, as always, opinion will CONTINUE to play a huge factor. However, there is no denying that your biggest goal (after acc cap) should be to get a lot of DET

My proposed BiS Pre Turn 5. These sets are assuming you use the food provided.
First set is slightly better than the second.
(Note: You need 480ish Acc for the snakes during the Twintania fight, any other and you can cut a lot off.)

Thank you for the link. This is a rather peculiar result, and I should like to replicate it. I know that FFXIV-APP is known to miss one in 60 (or was it 600?) reports. If that is the case and one was missed, your 101st reported hit would be at 328.44 seconds -- which was actually observed. I will do some testing over 30 minute to an hour and simply count the number of hits over that interval with and without skill speed. That should give me a more definitive answer.

Quick question, you claim this is a "pre-T5" build yet you include the bracelets of maiming, a turn 5 drop. Not sure if it's a typo but might wanna consider something else. A pre-turn 5 build should be items BEFORE turn 5 right? Or am I wrong.

Hmm. . .true, but I visually observed the first attack land between the 1 and 2 second mark, which throws everything off. I do agree that a longer test would quell any doubts, though. I was just doing that one during my lunch break. >_>

This is what I came up with.

Conclusion: Autoattacks unaffected by skill speed.

(Unsure if I should report this as a bug, because spell speed is necessarily more powerful than skill speed.)

So, what are the stat weights now? Pre 2.1 I read everywhere it was STR > ACC Cap > SS 481 > CRIT > STR > Vit

I can't give you mathematical stat weights, but these are IMO the order of importance for MNK:

STR > ACC cap > DET > CHR > SS

DET is so high because it affects AAs the most (a huge chunk of our DPS), and it stacks so well with all the criticals we get from Internal Release and guaranteed Bootshine crit.

I agree, I also value diet more than frit but not to the point where it should be ignored. Thus here is what came up with. May not be the absolute ideal gear, however feel this is what will be aiming for going forward. Any input on this?

I believe so, in which case I believe changing the belt to the hero belt would be a better option as it gives you more acc and allows you to use buttons in blanket HQ which gives great stats. Also don't forget to stack to stack on them STR potions as its great for zerg times XD

With diet becoming even more important due to the upgrade to GL I'm personally aiming for the second set in that list with the only change being the belt so I don't need ACC food but can go full on DD food.

That one has 15 less accuracy than any other on this page. Is 458 the cap for dungeons or something?

458 is more than enough for all coil.

Swapping chest and feet down to i80 pieces isn't a good idea. That 7 Str loss is a pretty huge impact not to mention the Crit loss you take with that set to get just a little Det. Also your build doesn't have enough Det to make full use of the HQ Black Truffle Risotto. 4% of the 340 Determination you would have in that set is only 13.6. You would need to have 425 Det to get the full benefit of the Det.

Hey thanks for the catch. Not sure what I was thinking basing my DET off 341 instead of the 202 base value when calculating for the Truffle. Updated my post.
