So Vanity Weapon Slots.

Once Vanity is released in 2.2 what will you pick as your Weapon Vanity? (assuming SE allows us to use weapons as Vanity look as well.)

As of now seems most relics are fine so not much use for Vanity Weapon look for my other classes...

BUT!!!!!!!

I'm certainly going to use Sarnga as my Archer Vanity weapon for Bard and Archer's future 2nd Job.

SO like.. it's for real like totally announced that we are like for real getting vanity in like 2.2? Because I like really need to know for sure so I can like totally prepare myself... even though I'm like already prepared and then some.

I'm not like vain or anything, I just really care about how good I like look ya know?

Last time I heard from them about Vanity was that they're releasing it on 2.2 and the reason why it didn't arrive in 2.1 was because it is not ready.

However, that was months ago and I haven't heard anything new since then.

If they're proper 'slots', then Sarngna as well.
If they're transmutations/transmogs? Not bothering with that crap.

Well then you'll not be happy. The last update from a community rep. quoted the Devs as saying they did away with the slot system as it was too intensive. Just like everything else in the game. Dollar store servers and PS3 limitations = transmog over separate slot system. Cheers!

Also, since they don't allow you to dye end game gear sets I have a suspicion that you won't be able to transmog a lot of those end game sets. No backing to it, other than with the backwards way / no common sense approach SE takes to a number of things... well I can just see it happening.

Not happening.

Knowing SE and FF, you won't be able to modify primary/offhand weapons just like you can't dye them.

Knowing how badly SE/Yoshi has a knack for screwing up simple features, it's likely that 'vanity' item slots will be restricted to holiday gear and other vanity-specific equipment. They can't even get the fundamentals of player housing right, how do you expect them to comprehend mesh/texture changes?

SE can't manage simple projects in straightforward ways without a Santa's list of caveats, limitations, lockouts, general pain in the assery, excuses, and followup apology letters.

Based on how 2.2 rolls out, I may just as well roll over to Wildstar. At least the devs there know how to incorporate 'features', and not make it feel like some executive broke out a checklist of 'things he thought was hip' and then rode sidesaddle on the designers to make sure they could use it to milk subscription money.

3 month property deprication? That's a pretty obvious attempt to try and maintain/retain subscriptions for a game that offers very little in terms of satisfaction, and mind numbing repetition. I have no doubt 'vanity' will be grossly sub-par given they don't have the technical capacity to read a database, much less run a server in anything bigger than a highschool mac-lab.

Either Titan's axe or Rampager. All the other "great"axes are tiny.

This is correct. This will be a feature where you can wear one type of equipment and have it displayed as another.

The previous request asked to have separate equipment slots for cosmetic gear in addition to regular equipment slots. We will not be implementing a system exactly as originally requested, but a system that does fulfill the goal of displaying alternate equipment to what is worn.
Also, as previously mentioned there will be some restrictions as to what you combinations can be worn and displayed.

This is the post saying they are no longer doing separate slots. The one for transmog is buried in that same post. It's over 70-80 pages long.

DCUO managed to have the best vanity system of any MMO, better than "slots" even, and that was on ps3, so memory limitations or whatever isn't an excuse.

Yoshi always has an excuse.

While yes, 'slots' aren't required, you can count on them implementing the alterntaives in such a way that it turns it into a royal pain in the ass to do, such as destroying the original item, or restricting the change to nearly identical armor, or restricting it so that green/blue armor cannot be used as either the grantor or the recipient of a new model.

I would get your balm ready, because there will be some chafing going on when they release their "Glorious Plan" to make vanity items as painful an experience as possible.

I like the fists from the Lightning Event a lot. I wish they'd make that gun cock noise more during combat too.

Memory/Server limitations or whatever you want to call it. This is the first triple A rated MMO publisher you'll ever hear bicker about their infrastructure so much and use it as a crutch to deny content. :)

CCP, the developers for EVE Online, have managed to develop a way to handle the server load for 15,000 players to occupy the same localized area/zone and engage in pvp combat with no pop in and minimal lag. This is in addition to having an infrastructure that handles an MMO without any 'worlds' or 'shards' segregating players.

SE b*tches about server stress caused by vanity slots?

BULLSH*T Yoshi. That's just lazy and a demonstration of unadulterated ineptness. If a small, indie company in Iceland can develop a game that has a higher load capacity than the entire country they live in, a AAA game developer/publisher can do vanity slots properly.

Oh, and CCP can also deploy major patch content in an hour now too. Not 27.

Can you imagine farming Odin's full armor set to prepare for vanity to find out that it's transmog and destroys the 'vanity' item in the process? When the new tier gear comes out or you just have to upgrade you get to re-farm Odin's armor or any other pain in the butt armor. Not only can I see Yoshi/SE doing this, I can see them putting a positive spin on it to make it more 'rewarding' and what not. Heehee.

EDIT: Then again I'm still sticking with the idea that they won't allow you to transmog AF, Allagan, or any of the other 'untouchable' sets in terms of Dye. Cracks me up.

I know right! DCUO vanity system is the best so far. You equip the item/gear, you get the style. It's also a way to earn sp/achievement. So i wonder why SE AKA Yoshi P. clame saying it's bout server stress? DCUO run on ps3 & have more than 60player in screen with no lag issue. LOL

Edit: also have an ingame voice chat with realy good quality. (better than Skype)

Transmogrification is the 'vanity system' from WoW. You have an ugly weapon with awesome stats. You have a nice looking weapon with crappy stats. Put the ugly weapon as the base, and then drop the pretty weapon to the right. Hit a button and the pretty weapon's skin is applied to the ugly weapon. You can always reset the ugly weapon back to its normal skin.

WoW's transmog doesn't destroy any items in the process, so you don't have to get a piece of gear every time you want to apply it to something else.

open vanity slots by killing titan super duper ouch mode

vanity slot = slots that take graphic priority, not changing the actual items graphic permanently.

Well, seeing the supposed billions of gil floating around that need to be removed from the economy, I wouldn't put it past them to charge money per item. Granted, WoW benefited more from that sort of thing due to the tons upon tons of gold introduced into the economy from daily quests, it is something to think about.

What I wanted you to focus on more is the mechanics of it rather than the cost, though.

As I understand it from a programming level, they want things to be kind of "static" for faster memory access. Which means they do not want a system that every single time it pings your character for information have to say "I'm wearing item C, but let me check if you should use another model from the vanity screen". Instead you've previously re-created your item C with a different model link so that the calculations on which model to use have been set once and for all earlier. This means saving time on all the computations for sending character information.

However from user perspective it is kind of annoying that we can't just change things when we feel like it, but we need to use an item or action or npc to do this every time.

There will be vanity slots, but you can only use them with specially designated gears every other Tuesday in March at a cost of 160000% of your total accumulated wealth and firstborn child or pet.

Lol jk but not.

Would not surprise me if it cost gil to open up vanity slots. A million here a million there for each slot, and it's x10 on legacy servers.

Well guess we wait and see what They do with Vanity then.

Still it would be a kind of a waste since Event gears, such as Lightning event gears and the Holiday event gears, are made for vanity use. Having to destroy them just to use them for a gear you won't be using for long once a new higher ilvl gear is released removes the value of getting the vanity gear from the event.

If I was the designers, I would be like screw yall! hahaha

Its almost like someone cooking all day then everyone decides they rather go to Mcdonalds. I don't really care for it, I can't believe I'm saying that being I love shiny and cool looking gear more then anyone. I just think a gear should look the way it was made and if your gear look awesome at the time your using it then your just lucky, if you can use or get away with a lower level gear that looks better then your just fortunate. But I will be happy for everyone when they do finally put vanity slots in and i'd probably be the first one to use it all that being said.

I have another idea though, instead of Vanity slots why can't they just make certain pieces of gear sets or items(not EVERY SINGLE ITEM) have different "TYPES" Like on the armor it self you will have the options of TYPE1, TYPE2 or TYPE3 style. This will keep the core of the look with some variations.

Me being a Warrior, looking at the various judges, If I can just choose which "Style" or "TYPE" out these options , I would be thrilled with that. Maybe wouldnt be that many options or not but would be a great start I think. There fore everyone would know your still in AF or what not just more variety.

Maybe in low level Dungeons, I go with the ORginal AF look dont want to look too awesome, then high dungeons I switch up with others. Or change daily

^This^, is SE ****s up something as simple as vanity slots and goes the route of GW2 transmute I'm gonna be so sad lol. GW2 did it for their cash shop, ARR is p2p so keep that nonsense away and give us proper vanity slots.

OT: I think on Pld I may use my Lightning gunblade paired with the smallest shield I can find, for my Bard's weapon I'll use the ridiculousness that is the Titan bow, and as far as my Blm goes I have not decided yet.

This is so sad, but so true. The last thing we heard about vanity slots was that they were going for more of a re-skinning system, which pretty much kills the feature and kills my enthusiasm. The painful lack of armor variety really puts a shine on the disappointment.
