Crafted dps accessories

I've spent the past week or so building my crafted accessories for WAR/PLD. I only need to make the 2 rings and buy 2 more vit4 materias.

What are the optimum melds for each slot? Does anyone have a resource? I can't find one (I admit I did not search much outside of a quick google search)

I wonder this as well is it:

For Tank: Det, Crit Rate, Skill Speed which are more valuable ?
- Is it Det > CR > SS ?

For Gryphonskin Ring:
Meld 1 = VIT IV (VIT 8)
Meld 2 = Savage Aim IV (Crit Rate 9) or Savage Might IV (Det 6) ????
Meld 3 = Battle Dance III (Parry 6)
Meld 4 = Battle Dance III (Parry 6)
Meld 5 = VIT II (VIT 2)

For Necklace / Wrist / Earring (Gryphoskin & Rose Gold Screws)
Meld 1 = VIT IV (VIT 8)
Meld 2 = Savage Aim IV (Crit Rate 9) or Quickarm IV (Skill Speed 9) ????
Meld 3 = Battle Dance III (Parry 6)
Meld 4 = Battle Dance III (Parry 6)
Meld 5 = VIT II (VIT 2)

I recommend referring to this resource i had created for my PLD.
Look at the figures provided for accessories and you can plan accordingly for your 5 melds.


For gryphonskin ring:
a possible meld is
VIT +8
VIT +2
DET + 6 (note that DET will not be capped)
Parry +6
Parry +6

Its not the best but I personally go the below to be cost efficient:
VIT +4
VIT +4
VIT +2
Parry +6
Parry +6

Some discussion about it here. For PLD, I'd especially meld DTR where possible (slots which have no DTR already) and CHR otherwise. For WAR, I'd meld SSPD first and DTR second. You may just meld SSPD for PLD as well, though, because Savage Aim IV are too expensive for a forbidden meld.

Depending, though, you might want to just not bother with the last slot. Meld VIT3-VIT3-PAR3-PAR3-VIT2 to cap VIT and parry and call it a day. It's not quite as good, but seriously, the cost to use vit IV and a forbidden IV is insane for a very, very small benefit.

Sounds about right. Valk's formula predicts a 1.5% increase in damage for 30 DTR, so if you're at 1.25 damage per potency already, your result sounds almost exactly what I'd expect. That's why most of us suggest just using cheaper grade 3 materia and ignoring the potential damage stat -- the cost is huge for a very small benefit. All secondary stats will be like that.

I went ahead and did the following:

vitality IV
savage aim III
battledance III
battledance III
Vitality II

I went from 8700 hp fully buffed in a party (all i90) to ~8300 hp and gained an extremely noticeable damage increase and what I precieved to be more parrys and an increase in parry % DR. It was way worth it. Money is worthless in this game, might as well pend it.

45 DEX equates to about 1.5 to 2% increased chance to Parry.

With 12 Parry on each item, you're losing some Parry from the i90 accessories. (~10 for me)

By replacing all five accessories instead of i90 accessories, the net difference is that you're parrying maybe 1% more often and mitigating 1% more damage per parry. This might equate to roughly 0.5% of effective mitigation for parryable attacks (not including magic attacks), which is pretty insignificant.

The real reason you'd use crafted DPS accessories is to sacrifice some VIT for a higher amount of STR and other DPS stats. 25 VIT for +45 Strength +3 Accuracy, +22 Determination, +7 Skill Speed (plus up to 9 Crit or 6 Det per item, if you choose to go for the higher budget Lv4 Materia route).

What's better? 16 vit or 10vit+9str?

It's 15 VIT, not 16, and you're comparing VIT to to 10 vit + 9 str + 9 dex + at least one extra stat. Again, crafted DPS accessories give you the highest possible mitigation plus superior stats otherwise (easier to meet acc cap, and skill speed adds to WAR mitigation over time). The point is that you are not losing defensive ability over time, so you are sacrificing some amount of HP (about 450 while in Defiance) for higher damage output. If you can afford it, then you not only can do it, you should do it. The obvious wrench in the gears (ha-ha) is that you need that you're more likely to need the HP to get it right the first time. Later, you can do it in your sleep and are on crack if you're still considering those ilvl90 accessories gathering dust in your inventory. Can't win for losing. :p

so having 4 HQ accessories vs 4 ilv90 means that I have 20 less vit but 36 more str and other stats. it's about 365 hp in defiance uhm.
(4 bacause i already have a ilv90 accessory).

so 20 less vit is 365 less hp. what about 36 more str? what is 36 str in terms of damage while in defiance?
not sure if it's whise to trade hp for str since we have a +hp% and -atk% stance

I agree with Gamemako. It's definitely worthwhile to have a set for both: VIT and STR.

Conventional tanking wisdom tells us that survivability should always comes before damage. However, it should completely depend on the fight. As long as your HP is above a certain threshold (this # changes depending on the encounter and your role) to safely survive the mechanics, having more HP no longer really helps you (aside from Lustrate). Once you're above that Threshold and having that extra 450 HP no longer adds value, you might as well take the 45 STR and the Det/Acc/Crit. Tank DPS is still very significant, especially a Warrior's. Quickly killing adds and shortening the fight also relieves stress on the healers.

So, to answer Tano's question: It depends. The relative value of VIT to STR is completely dependent on what you're fighting. There are fights where I would never want to compromise my HP and there are fights where I wish I could wear Monk body pieces.

A little under +10% DPS. You'd get around 0.09 damage per potency ignoring the other damage stat gains, so if you're hitting for 155 effective potency per second, it's 14 DPS gained. Include other damage stat gains and the last piece, and you're looking at about +20 DPS for swapping from ilvl90 Fending to ilvl70 melded. That's with an ilvl90 weapon.

Basically, think of it this way. Your base VIT and base STR, minus bonus points, are pretty close, so the gains per item are pretty close as well. The thing about melded ones is that they give you both stats, so where ilvl70 gives you +10% VIT and +10% STR (just an example), ilvl90 gives you +15% VIT -- the net gain is 4.5% VIT at a loss of the 10% strength. That's really how you end up with ilvl70 performing well compared to ilvl 90. This will be true of all crafted accessories in the future as well. Well, except that we'll all use STR-melded tank accessories because SE probably won't repeat the mistake of offering a piece with STR and DEX on the same piece. That really wasn't the best call on their part, ha.

yeah, gains are close, but even this much including defiance buff/debuff... i'm surprised

(I actually did VIT4 Crit4 Parry4 Crit2 VIT2 on my 3rd accessory thanks to the 2.1 T4 materia prices drops, but the effect is identical)

My alternate job (which due to the previous WAR hate, and the fact that my FC has a truckload of tanks, means I actually use it more) is BRD, so I wanted to make something useful for both.

wow I wish I rich like you : D I never dare to meld 2nd materia IV..... because price.

You're not forced to use parry4 and crit 3 on forbidden melds. Just make sure you have vit4 on 100% meld, and then cap vit and parry.
Just having vit, str and parry capped is enough to be better then lv90 accessories. I'm also adding det or crit but using II, not III. if you craft them yourself (or have a friend doing crafts for free) it costs about 100k each (300k if you're unlucky like me with my bracelet). you don't really need high crit on a tank and det/skill speed is not really so much influent unless you have like +100.

mostly so i can use them on my BRD/MNK/DRG as well, i think losing out on 9 parry is worth the ability to cross class them so widely.

Umm, I don't know what prices are like on your server, but I think you would have saved a ton of gil having one DPS set and one Tanking set, rather than overmelding IV materia. The jewelry is cheap. Materia is expensive. 4th melding Savage Might IV? Yikes!

When you said this, I immediately figured that you're legacy. I thought blowing 500k on my jewelry was silly, but this would be around 5 mil for the set -- if you could even get access to the pieces. Those who even have that kind of gil aren't willing to spend it on that. I mean, hell, you end up with something better than an ilvl80 DPS piece, but the cost is just too much for most of us to accept.
