Equipment degradation

So I've noticed since 2.1 that I now suffer much quicker equipment degradation. before 2.1 I could run 6-7 DGs before repairing (Tank) and now I get through 2-3 before the repair hits.

I never saw this in the patch notes (if it was there I apologize for wasting time). but It seems to me that for everything SE does to make it seem like they're giving us bonuses like commendation gil and roulette, they counter-act it with something like this. it's not like it's a major thing, and I don't even care about making gil running DGs.... it's the fact that I'm now perpetually bound to a repair vendor while running DGs that is getting to me.

Thank you !! finally someone noticing that too.

Before the patch you could fight mobs while running around the world and then head into a dungeon, complete that and come out to have quick repairs even though your equipment was still around 90% or so.

Now? Now after a small fate which you hardly take any damage in, my armor shows degradation as if i was in an AK or WP run and your party had died a few times.

As you mentioned even though it's not a big deal, something has certainly changed in regards to equipment degradation.

Isn't equipment damage based on experience gained? If so, it might be because you get more experience from dungeons now.

I ran Turn 1 coil and half of PS and I ended up at 30% left on my gear. It does seem to degrade faster. But this is just speculation.

As mentioned it isn't really a big thing, it's just something i noticed but it's certainly not speculation.

I always watched my gear since i was curious of how it degraded.

Before the patch i recall doing Garuda HM and clearing it without any deaths, wipes and come out with 0 yes zero damage.

Now i think even if you don't take any damage, your equipment will still take damage as if you wiped once or twice.

i can certainly guarantee you that the equipment degradation has certainly changed since the patch.

As for someone that mentioned getting xp from dungeons, i am talking about lvl50 dungeons where xp is irrelevant, your equipment still takes more damage than before the patch.

Dunno why they would raise the XP gained in a lvl 50 DG, unless it is tied to durability (I have no idea how it's calculated so perhaps this is the case). But I definitely know that pre 2.1 I was not repairing 4-5 times a day no matter how much I died.

Trolled the patch notes again to be safe and can't find anything about durability changes. the only change is in relation to DG xp increases as discussed. While this may be the case (if it ties into durability) it still doesn't explain why this increase has been implemented, as it currently only serves to sink gil (which seems to be the running joke with SE) and annoy players like me that find ourselves now constantly searching out repair vendors between runs.

I checked those patch notes yesterday, i didn't spot anything with regards to equipment degradation.

I think some of the changes they have done has somehow affected that.

Oh so it's really a thing? In PS, by the time we reached last boss one of our dPS was at 0%, so completely useless. I thought uh well maybe he didn't repair before getting in? But checked my equip and was almost completey destroyed too...I understand we wiped a lot but really full degradation just with a single dungeon???
Apart from the risk to be unable to finish, that way, repair fees levtate lot too ./ So much for this patch making people have more money..

On a possibly related note: The cost of dark matter from Grand Companies was significantly reduced.

From the patch notes:

Grade 1 Dark Matter (5) 70 → 60
Grade 2 Dark matter (5) 430 → 170
Grade 3 Dark Matter (5) 1,010 → 350
Grade 4 Dark Matter (5) 2,160 → 690
Grade 5 Dark Matter (5) 5,030 → 1,150

Wonderful...dark matter was the only use I had for seals, now I guess I'll keep them capped...really wish they'd introduce new items with seals, cause once you're 50 and max rank..but this is another topic.
Problem with Dark Matter is you can only repair your own equip, wish you could offer it as service and maybe also do it in dungeon.

This is nice and all... But without being able to get another player to repair my gear I'm stuck with the reality that in order to actually accomplish this I need to level two crafting professions to 40 just to repair the gear for my current class. I've never been interested in repairing my own gear, nor the prospect of leveling crafting professions.

On another note: I'm not even sure dying more often causes greater reduction in durability, it forces you to try encounters again which contributes to more degradation, but even running a 50 DG with a party that never dies I'm still seeing a marked difference in durability % once I'm out.

Deaths dont make you lose durability. You can wipe all day on and your gear won't change, unless your killing something like adds.

Could be because new dungeons are a higher level. I noticed I was binding my level 70 gear gear in them, something that I wouldn't get in AK. They also have a large amount of trash.

So we have several points that could be contributing:

- Increased XP tied to durability loss (can anyone confirm this is actually the case?)
- Increased trash and boss encounters that have adds (PS is stacked in adds)
- Higher level content for new DGs
- the obvious fact that we are learning new content and therefore dying more often

I can definitely see the increased durability loss from these factors and I certainly feel that durability on gear should be dropping faster than pre 2.1. But, it seems that whatever factors have changed it (and there could still have been an actual tweak that wasn't listed in patch notes) have stacked it to far in the opposite direction. Where before I felt that gear should degrade slightly quicker, I now feel that all these factors are causing degradation at an alarming rate. If I could have other players repair my gear (especially during DG runs) I wouldn't have such an issue.

More degradation = ninja gil sink.

Its really just a countermeasure to keep people from buying up the houses too quickly...

I understand that. I wasn't pointing out the lowering of the cost of dark matter as a way to say "Don't worry about it, repairs can be cheaper now with dark matter." or anything like that. I was just pointing it out more as a "Well they lowered dark matter prices, so maybe they did increase durability loss."

The thing is that equipment degradation is mostly based upon the amount of experience points you aquire. You are essentially complaining about getting more EXP. LOL!

Weeeeell considering how useful xp is at cap, I sure complain aboutgetting more xp in l50 dungeons at least :P But yeah now I've seen suddenly my DL pieces are at 8% SB while they wouldn't bulge from 1% before patch so...more xp.

Possibly slipped their eyes, gear degradation occur when you gain experience or when you die (experience gained spiritbinds your gear and also reduces it durability, read as degradtion). I Somehow got the idea off what Yoshi said that now you can get experience out of cap-level dungeons, and he somehow said it was related to rested experience as well, as if experience at cap added to rested generation (this is merely a speculation based off what I understood from his words). So now that you get more experience your gear breaks faster (I have not played much after this and ahve not paida ny attention to the actual armor degradation).

Spiritbinding happens when you get "experience" from kills on things between a level gap depending on your gear's ilvl, higher the ilvl the higher the enemy's lvl need to be to give SB, with a hard base, so if you are spirtbiding your gear more often and in places you weren't before, this means you are also getting more experience out of it.

So idk, if the rates are as you are saying, then this might be a small bug, cause it seems rather fast compared to what they changed it to on the previous patch. Also another noteworthy thing is that the more you outgear a enemy (again ilvl vs. enemy lvl) the less degradation your gear suffers, and less chance to SB, or SB slower.

ilvl 90 gear suffers noticeably less damage than ilvl70. (or they have just higher durability, in terms of points, so percentage moves slower)

I find myself putting out 2k gil to repair frequently, almost to the point that I spend as much money repairing as I did at launch before the repair nerfs.

Just a quick question.... but what is the point of SBing DL/coil gear etc? I mean, we can't convert them can we? or has green/blue gear been changed so you can convert them now?
