Why is housing even being released

If it's being purposefully overpriced so we can't buy it because the servers can't handle everyone buying and having one?

Maybe I'm super unique but instead of being purposefully overpriced for three months until they probably fix the servers I'd have much preferred they just didn't release housing until 2.2 when they got new servers that could handle more than 15 plots a world. It just really doesn't make sense to me to release a product you can't support and then to hide that fact make it so expensive no one can buy it.

I just can't help imagining that if they postponed housing until 2.2 or whenever they upgrade the servers that the blowback would be a tenth of what it is now. Because instead of everyone being angry that content is being released and put behind an impassable because the servers can't handle it. We'd only be a little annoyed because it was being delayed but would at least work and be affordable when it finally arrived. So instead ofeveryone wanting Yoshis head on a pike we'd at least have something to look forward too.

15 plots a world? Is that an actual fact that I missed somewhere or an exaggeration?
I feel like once we get into the game, they'll make the adjustments necessary if the pricing is that staggering. After all, it'd be ridiculous to assume that they want us to not experience any part of a new feature that they've been making us excited about. It seems to me that a lot of people want to believe that they want us to suffer for some strange reason, and I think we shouldn't jump the gun just yet until we've actually, y'know experienced it all firsthand.

Just a guess, but they are releasing them because some will be able to afford the current prices and will want to have a house for their FC.

There are 30 plots per instance iirc. They'd open up another instance after the available plots are bought up allowing for (theoretically) an infinite number of plots (although it would be more likely the servers would keel over and die from the strain) necessitating more servers per x number of instances.

Honestly I don't get why people are upset your buying a house 512 people can use. Did they honestly expect it to be cheap ??

15 is an assumption based on three sizes and five plots a size and the fact they're so purposefully overpriced it's unlikely anyone will buy them within the next 90 days. And Yoshi has admitted they were priced like they are because they don't want people buying them right away.

They're doing it because it's the only way to reliably load test the system and gauge what extra hardware they may need to activate as well as it being a precaution so they don't have a small scale repeat of launch week.

Except a Public House isn't a Relic or a Mythic weapon is it?

It's casual content put on a Hardcore-grinders scale...but I'm done trying to explain that.

And how would all those FFXI vets have felt if a relic weapon was easier/harder to farm currency for depending on your server choices you made 3 months...or even 2 years ago?

This one is predicting by the end of the year, housing will be reduced by a factor of 10. 361 million gil (on Sargatanas) for the top tier of housing is just silly.

@ Rom- I agree we don't need handouts. But the difference is "generally" housing in MMOs is generally considered a "casual" thing while high end gear, relics and what not, is generally considered hardcore. Now I understand that some elements to housing may require more dedication, simply having access to a base level housing has never required a hardcore FC/ guild. At least that I have seen, and I've played most mmos. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Guess what kid, housing is completely optional.
You don't have to buy it, you don't have to live in it, and you don't have to make furniture for it.
For all practical purposes, there is no housing for you.
So as far as your concerned it's not even really released, so stop crying you just got what you want - no housing was released for you in this patch.

Well this isn't 11 it's 14 and there's a difference between entitlement and it requiring 50 people donating all of their money for 45 days straight to afford a house on the NA legacy servers and 90 on the JP ones. That goes up to 90+ and 180+ when you drop down to 20ish members which is pretty common size

They'll make up whatever excuses they can right up till the players are in open revolt and the game starts to see revenue drop before they try and be open about their bad decisions.

I love SE's games, not so much in recent years but I know they have a knack for these things you don't get from many other companies. They are also kings of screwing up for hair brained reasoning. The players just need to jump up and down on their heads till it gets through em that you don't release half finished content and damn sure not before you have the infrastructure in place to provide your product to folks that have payed you for it already.

First, this isnt XI.

Second, legacy players have already been waiting for housing , since it was promised back during the days of 1.0. And to this date not everyone has hundreds of millions of gil. Only a small handful of players would.
300-600million gil is not even a long term goal for most honest players. Getting myth gear and +1 for all 9 jobs is a better example of a long term goal.

another thread about another person complaining........ and having wrong info, of course that is a requirement too ;p

You can see by the pricing, they are doing it this way to remove as much gil as they can from the game, they even said later the prices will be lowered (guessing for the personal house release)

Come on, people. Be thankful you actually have a fng goal in this game. All the goals so far have been limited by artificial means - and while a steep price may seem "artificial" at least it's attainable at your own pace. I could have full Myth and/or Allagan on all my jobs by now, but I don't because of some (understandable, yet arbitrary) rule imposed on me by the Twelve (as far as I know, there's no Lore reason I can't pick up more than 300 Myth Tomes per seven days). Gil is something you can make, or borrow from friends - it's something you can continually work toward. Hell you can buy the smallest plot and the crappiest house, sell it, and upgrade when you make more.


The system probably isn't perfect, but stop friggin crying because the game actually has given you something to work for.
If you want a house, whine less and make gil more.

And good news, everyone! The longer it takes you to make the gil, the cheaper the houses get!

Off topic, it occurs to me that with the moghouse system of FFXI they had an individual instance for every single player didn't they? Or is there a reason the servers of FFXIV can't handle a much smaller number of larger instances?

But what if they don't want housing to be casual? What if they don't want to be other games? What if they're seeing for the second time where that got them? 1.5 million players? They're easily losing 300k+ of that over Wolves' Den no matter how they design it.

Why not give people a life's mission? No such thing exists in the game at this point, even farming myth and Coil will reach its usefulness by around March for the majority of multi-job players.

The right time to own a house is the right time to own a house. If people feel compelled to turn the game into a job to get a house, I don't think that's a problem with the housing system.

Most FCs have like 100 in it atmost, but only like 50 or less are active. The playerbase is not using FCs the way SE expected them too. There are tons and tons of small FCs with just a few people or friends. Once they make content that would need large FCs then they'll mostly stay small like they are now.

I can never consider FC House as House since it is made more for a base of operations for FCs.

A good design for a FC House would be more towards designing the FC House to be a bar rather than a house.

Small House, as shown, is only the size of a Inn room so not much can be done but to turn a Small FC house into a place like a cafe.

Medium House size makes it possible for a much larger bar for the FC base.

Mansions are shown to have two rooms on the 2nd floor. While the bottom floor can be designed to be a bar the top floors can be design with 1 room being a meeting room for FC members and the second room can be designed as a Office for the FC Leader and officers.

I'm okay with housing costing a lot at first. I just think the way they went about hyping it was all wrong.

"See all these neat videos? Look at all these cool features that will available to free companies! Oh, these new items made from crafts will look great in there... you can even have customizeable this, and that, and this... Please look forward to it in 2.1!"

And then it launches... Only a small amount of people can get it. Well, why was it hyped up so much in the first place? It seemed to be played up like something a lot of people could enjoy, but instead it is reserved for the few power elite.

If this is their attempt to 'restrict' who buys houses at first, they are really killing two birds with one stone.

1) They will be removing a lot of excess money from the economy. The people who worked that hard to make that money had little to spend it on besides HQ items and expensive melds.
2) They will restrict the amount of strain servers receive, specifically because only really rich people can afford it and they know exactly how much gil is currently in the economy. The 'slowly reduced' prices is one way to allow the regulation to take effect, but the reduction is not enough to affect real change. If you don't have 20m gil, a slight reduction of price isn't going to affect you that much unless you're sitting at 18m already... and if you have THAT much gil, you probably already know how to make gil, so getting to 20m wouldn't be a huge stretch for a dedicated person.

If I had to guess, housing will get MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper in 2.2, or the first MAJOR hotfix they make. They just want to regulate it at first and give players a place to dump their excess money. Again, this wouldn't have been such a big deal if they didn't hype it SO MUCH to begin with. A lot of people were looking forward to this.

I do not agree with the difference between legacy and non-legacy prices. A lot of legacy players were very poor (and still are just as poor as non-legacy). I don't think the newer players or poor legacy players should be 'punished'.

Aye, the game needs some larger goals. But taking a hyped and anticipated aspect of the game and locking it away behind a hardcore grind aint the way to add one. You want your Relic and Mythic, well have them. Don't take the mog house and make it an exclusive to folks that sacrifice every other facet of their lives for FFXIV. I played FFXI for years and loved it, but a grind like the old days will not keep players. It will just discourage and drive em away.

your wrong about relics you had instant access once you hit rank 6, bought the clock item then got the base weapon from a drop after that it was just getting the old currency and dynamis only locks you out 3 days. never having to spend one cent it was nothing but content spaming.

FFXIV is BS because it wants insane gil prices. its making one week lockouts from content. no way can you sit there and say FFXIV's systems are ok.
mythics were even easier & faster to get, then mog trial weapons cost nothing but you doing trials which was content not a gil sink.

yeah, some people had an entire LS funding that one guy to get that one relic and the one guy personally didn't have to spend a dime.

most relics were made by people who bought their currency though

...and trying to see a difference between spamming content to make money to buy X, vs spamming content to acquire currency to buy X ...is kind of a stretch

Actually i expected the smallest patch of land to cost about 500k but not in the millions :(

something people seem to constantly forget, these are FREE COMPANY houses, they arent supposed to be bought by an individual, but by your entire FC as a whole

personal housing doesnt even get added for another half year, so start saving up for that one

SE Loose face? Hah, They've effectively managed to fling their own crap into their face. Even gaming websites are now picking up on the outrageous prices. I'm from a guild with ~40 active members. Since we have a couple crafters who actually enjoy playing the market, we've managed to put away ~8 mil since the initial announcement.

The funny thing is that this really won't remove gill from the servers (apart from the few rich idiots who acidentaly hit the purchase button). As the housing is not attainable during a reasonable time frame, with reasonable effort most of the other guilds I've talked to have come to the same conclusion....

Basically, "f**k that, I'm keeping our gil for ourselves!"

It isn't meant for everyone. This is a luxury item.
