COIL for alts?

I tried looking up a post but couldn't find it...I'm assuming it has been talked about.

Is it ridiculous or a good idea for square enix to allow players to run coil on their alt classes.
I would love to do coil on the rest of my classes but being locked out because I'm on one character is a bummer.

I suppose I could go level a brand new character
but whats the fun in that after trying to max out all classes on your main?

If they allowed you to do coil on your other classes I guess it would defeat the boredom most people are having with the game
I know you'll be doing the same content but as a different class and is more fun and more variety :P

I feel like my alts are just useless and only used for farming philosophy lol

Start a new character in another server, meet new people, do different stuff with others. 50% of the fun comes from the social aspect of the game!

well i dont need to go to another server to meet new people....there is plenty of people I can meet on my current one lol

wait, so if i went to a turn 1, then progressed it with my monk, i cant use my white mage or warrior after??? must be monk?

I don't understand how people can't gear an Alt I honestly have no clue, sure you can't FULL-il90 it TODAY, but you can get respectable gear for it.
Bard (Relic lv80, armor il87, accessories il79)
Warrior (Relic lv80, armor il70, accessories il70) - Relic + Darklight ... pretty standard coil-ready alt
Scholar (Relic lv80, armor il60, accessories il60) - Relic + Amdapor ... I have healed turn 1 (multiple times) without being carried by the second healer... yeah my gear could be better but it CAN be played
Summoner (Ifrits lv60, armor il60, accessories il60) - Primal + Amdapor ... I have my ifrit win, I just haven't blown the 900 tomes for relic. I wouldn't go in to coil, but I can reasonably complete all primal level content.

Sure relic + full darklight is a LOT of time grinding dungeons but you don't NEED that to play the game, you don't even NEED that to not be holding people back. You don't have to ONLY gear 1 job until it's full lv90 w/ a 95 weapon all BIS equipment before you can play something else either. Relax and look at the loot on the turn and figure out what you want and bring THAT job, or make sure your group understands before you enter if you're going on something else.

I think they should make it so you are locked based on role. You progress as a tank, as a healer, and as a dps.

So: Turn 1 on pld, can be the leader to enter 2 as war or pld. Same for 3 and 4,
Can now re-enter 1 as a healer or a dps, but can't be the one to enter 2 (until you do 1 as each role).

This would triple the amount of content in the game for end game players, and finally give us something to do with our alts. I would love to heal coil, but I only get to go in once, and thus I'm stuck as pld.


Change coil lock out to be based on combat role!

so its really 1 class to enter it!!

Actually that's pretty much the bare minimum needed to make Coil tolerable. Many people don't go in until they have a couple of Myth pieces even.

You can clear Turn 1 with one class, then go in on another for Turn 2 if you want, assuming it's geared enough for that content. You just can't go back to Turn 1 that week on a different class for a chance for loot for that class.

They've also made Crystal Tower, which has worse gear than Coil, have a one week lockout timer on getting loot regardless of your class, but you can still run it as much as you want to help out people and get philo/myth I assume.

You can use any class on any turn, but you cannot re-visit previously cleared turns.

Clear turn 1on monk. You can enter turn 2 as any class, but you cannot re-enter turn1 regardless of your class.

My suggestion is to allow you to re-enter turn 1 as long as it is not the same part of the trinity you already cleared it on (in this case you could enter as tank or heals).

Not really, don't even need full Darklight to beat Turns 1-4 comfortably.

The real issue with being allowed to save locks per job is gear progression. If you run 9 jobs through coil per week, you could basically completely gear out your main class in just one week. Running 9 classes through the coil equals 9 weeks of gear progression. Bad idea.

I think you are going to find that those willing to do coil 1-5 9 times in a week are the vast minority and it shouldn't be used as an excuse to hinder other players.

Every other mmo allows you to do this (since it's 1 job per toon). And it's not a problem for them.

ya that could happen or there are players like me who actually want to have fun playing alts in coil...
I would love to start gearing my alt characters with allagan gear
I put in the work to get them full darklight and relic but now they're just sitting there being useless and only being used for WP SR lol

we level alts for cross class abilities and wanting to actually play them, I would be having so much fun doing coil on all my alts because I am learning to do it another way. It would also keep players busy and enjoying the game.

Actually most of the hardcore progression FCs would do this, to insta-gear their main toons, as an experienced raid group doesn't really need a lot of time to clear Coil from Turn 1 to Turn 5.

You can do the exact same in FFXIV. Just level another toon (not another class on the same toon) and there you go. No one forced you to max all of the classes on just one toon, that was your own decision.

Opting for different toons offers a broad variety of benefits:

- you can match the racial benefits (in stat allocation) to fit to the job you play (e.g. the difference in STR is 7 points between Lalafels and Highlanders; this is huge for DRG/MNK)
- you are not forced to fate-grind the vast majority of your jobs
- you can collect and spend myth stones per toon; with all jobs on one toon you are forced to decide which job to spend your stones on
- each toon gets their own coil locks, so you can run coil multiple times

I can actually only think of merely one benefit on levelling multiple jobs on one toon and this the possibilty of grabbing gear for your main class while helping out in the raid on a different job (e.g. you main is DRG, but your raid is in dire need for a tank, so you switch to a tank job and still roll on DRG loot).

Then just level alt jobs on alt characters, like you would do in any other MMO. Just because you can max all jobs on one toon, doesn't mean you are restricted to do so.

i have a feeling that eventually they'll do this since at that point in the future, lower levels of crystal tower and the beginning turns of coil will be the entry level gear-wise anyway

I agree having a separate lock out for each job is excessive.

Lockout for coil needs to be based on combat role. A separate lock out progression for healer, tank and dps. This will triple the endgame play time of endgame players while not substantially increasing their vertical (main job) growth. As it is, the game has been out long enough for everyone to be near full i90 on their main class (as of this week you can have +1 relic, full af+1, and an accessory all without having set foot in coil). The only meaningful power difference between two characters is the power of their highest vertical class. In all reality, if I have one full i90, or two full i90 classes, a entry player is at no more of a disadvantage. The point of the armory system is flexibility. As it is, nearly all endgame players are at full i90, a few more runs for access to main class loot will not make them any more powerful, it will just open the door to horizontal growth.

More importantly, it will make it easier for new players to get into coil. With experienced players running three times as often, there will be three times as many groups for new players to find a spot in. (Sure, my static will continue to do our primary class run, but not all of them even have enough 50s to do other runs, much less the motivation).

Please. Make coil lock out based on combat role. This is a very easy compromise between keeping the gear limited (again, that goal has already been accomplished, we have reached the end of the "drawing out" of 2.0 content because as of this week most endgame players are full/nearly full i90 on their main class) and allowing more endgame content to be playable for those who want it.

I agree with you 100% PiedPiper

I was smart enough to buy all my Mythology Tomestone Accessories for my WHM first; which also gives me the ability to use them on my SCH. All of the Allagan gear I have collected I can also use on my SCH. I find myself playing SCH during Coil now more than my WHM.

That being said; I also have a Gryphonskin MNK which is easily viable in Turns 1 through 4. Just because a Job doesn't have Allagan, doesn't mean it's useless, not by a long shot.

Well of course it's easy to swap between both Healers and you don't need a whole lot of gear to heal turn 1 to 5... Other classes need a lot of gear to keep up dmg and being able to tank the turns efficiently :-P. That's why I want to start playing my Healers as well but not sure whether to focus on my scholar or white mage.... Decisions decisions.

Actually I can't play them unless my raid group decided to swap positions... they tank and I heal or I get a new raid group. But I'm not going to be an ass like that.... Blah alts are so useless lol.

I should have made a different character if alts were going to be so useless end game.
