[To The Dev's]About the Ancient Buckler

So I'm very aware that putting [to the dev's] means pretty much nothing it's just there to get peoples attention for an issue that I find pretty glaring as someone who mains a BLM and is clearing T5.

It's about the Ancient Buckler. So for a long time everyone assumed that it dropped in T5 of the binding coil, even now this is still a possibility but unlikely. I say unlikely because after it was beaten for the first time about 5 weeks ago there have been a lot of groups to down twin (my best guess is probably an average of 2-3 groups per server). Now considering that it would only drop from one of the two chests at the end, which have 9 confirmed drops already, means every clear would have a 1/10 chance of dropping it.That means if there are 3 groups per server that cleared it, starting about 3 weeks ago, there should be about 15 of them out in the world but no one has seen it. I'd think it's fairly safe to say at this point that it's not there, which begs the question where is it. If it's somewhere that no player has been able to find then that's incredibly strange considering the only place to get ilvl 90 equips at the moment is in the binding coil, and if it's not in the game then that raises the question of "Why?".

The Allagan Scepter is the weapon that will be increased to ilvl 95 for black mages.
It's a one handed weapon which means you need an off hand to make it as effective as a 2 hand weapon. The only problem with that situation is that the only high lvl off hand available (at the moment) to black mages is the Darksteel Buckler which is ilvl 70. Now since PLD is the only other class that needs an off hand I'm going to compare them (it may not be the best comparison but it's the only one i have). PLD is getting their weapon increased to ilvl 95 as well with everyone in 2.1, but imagine if in order to equip it they needed to equip a ilvl 70 crafted shield instead of their ilvl 90 one. This is basically what is happening to BLM here. We're getting an increase to our weapon but at the same time have to take a decrease in int because of it(we may not get an actual decrease depending on how much int the weapon gains going from ilvl 90 to 95, the point is that every other class just gets whatever that buffed value is as an increase rather than having to make up for a sub-par equip).

So now that I've got my rants out of the way for "where is it" and, "why does BLM get screwed"(trust me I know those are horrible names for my rants). I'd like to talk about possible ways to fix these problems. For the most part I can see three ways that SE could handle this:

1. SE says woops that totally should have been in the coil drops sorry.
- I'd be fine with this, even though it sucks having to miss it for a couple weeks it'd be nice to know where it is.

2. SE decides that the ilvl 90 weapon for BLM from extreme modes is going to be 1-hand and compleating the quest will give you that weapon as well as the ancient buckler.
- I'd be fine with this as well, it would be an interesting way to go and you wouldn't have to do coil every week hoping for it to drop, you'd just get it from a somewhat challenging quest.

3. In 2.1 there is still no way to get an ilvl 90 shield but there is an ilvl 80 one that drops in CT.
- This is something that I would not be happy about considering it dosn't solve the problem of BLM taking a hit to their main stat whereas every other class just gets a strait increase from their weapon.


TL;DR; Dev's please give us black mages a way to get an ilvl 90 shield in 2.1, I'll feel pretty lonely without one.

BLMs got the shortest end of the stick for Coil Weapons.

Nope it's in the database but there is no place in the game that you can get it to drop.

3: shield = ilvl 90 = should be in coil

to be serious though there probably shouldn't be any 1 handed weapons in the game as it currently is.

Like why does paladin need 2 items where every other class needs 1? and why does thaumaturge and conjurer occasionally need 2 instead of 1 when there aren't really enough caster shield's to go around to begin with.

Why not "sword and shield" and "scepter and buckler"? It's not like it even matters once you get to the ilvl 55+ shields the differences between bucklers and tower shields just vanishes anyways and the primary stats on a 1h+offhand is the exact same as a 2h of same level so there's no point in doing the extra work for it

Except for 2 shields, multiple minions, novice level tools, BLM chocobo barding (which is a not yet implemented vet reward), and various other items, sure.

And who is to say that its not going to be something that comes from extreme primals? From what I heard, allagan equipment was in the game before BC was there. So, while I do follow your logic, people should feel entitled to an item that is "supposed" to be there and is obviously not. Wait for new content to see what we get first.

bluebird has been in the database since the beginning and has never been actually attainable in game so their goes 1
relic+1 is 90 so no to 2
every single gear drop in coil is "Allagan XXX" so no to 3

it just isn't in the game currently for unknown reasons

There are many things in the game's database that are currently unobtainable. Not much of a news flash.

I too am interested in knowing whether or not we we get our ilvl 90 shields. Will be awaiting hopeful developer response ^^;

I think some of you are missing the point here's a little comparison about the 3 different options atm.

Stardust +1

32 vit
31 int
18 det
37 SS

allagan + ancient

32 vit
31 int
37 acc
18 SS

So the Allagan + ancient is basically the same as stardust +1

allagan + darksteel HQ 5x overmeld

29 vit
28 int
34 acc
26 SS
8 crit

And this option is a loss of 3 vit 3 int 3 acc for a gain of 8SS (pretty worthless imo) and 8 crit. Crit's pretty good but it only makes up for about 1 of the 3 lost points of int meaning this option is a 10% loss of vit for this set and a 6% loss of int and a 8% loss of ACC. Meaning that for this set to be effective the allagan weapon needs to basically get a 10% boost to all it's stats to be as effective as the stardust +1. If this happens it means that every other class gets a weapon 10% better and BLM gets a sidegrade. And if that's not enough lets look at the shields effectiveness(pretty silly considering it's caster but there's a point to be made).

35 str 133 rate

So 25% less block strength and 10% less block rate.

It's not that I feel entitled it's just that I'd like some kind of idea if SE is just going to add an incentive to getting the allagan weapon for BLM rather than it just being a side grade.(also pretty sure I specifically mentioned the possibility of it dropping from extremes and said I was fine with that but whatev's)

Putting [To the devs] in your topic title does not increase the chance of a dev response. If you don't want discussion, then stuff the suggestion box at the help desk in-game. I suppose you've probably seen other people doing this, but the community reps themselves have said they read all the threads here whether or not you put [to the devs] in it.

A lot more than 2-3 groups per server have beaten turn 5. Once the full strategy was developed it was only a matter of time before many other people followed.

The allagan weapons are being bumped up to lv95 so they will be more than just a sidegrade.

The point is that since the combo of allagan + darksteel is 10% worse (about) than stardust +1 if the allagan weapon becomes 10% better than it is. That makes it exactly a side grade. Also if something crazy happened and allagan was 50% better than it is currently every other class gets that 50% boost but BLM gets a 40% boost.

Think about it this way. Both shields have the prefix of "Ancient". So assuming they do drop from the same location, WHM already get a 2-handed weapon drop from Coil. If ancient shield and buckler were to drop from coil, wouldn't WHM have a useless shield drop?

Yes but at the same time there is no ilvl 90 whm 1-hand so the whm shield is always useless in the game atm but there is an ilvl 90 blm weapon meaning it would be a very useful item, compared to the always useless whm shield.

Try dropping 3 neurolink in the same spot, it will spawn an extra coffer once twintania is killed

You're forgetting the Magic Damage stat that the new ilvl will give Allagan. Even if it's just 1 Magic Damage, that's worth more than the stats you lose using Darksteel. Still not as good as having a ilvl 95 Offhand of course, but likely better than Stardust +1, easily.

I'm not forgetting it I'm leaving it out because it makes the point that all other classes get a better upgrade than BLM clearer. Yes it could be negligible depending on the mAtk boost but that doesn't mean it's not there.

Hmm, once more non BLMs have to nuke threads about this problem again and again, same exact people. What is so wrong that we ask to be equal to every single job in the game that get something out of Twintania except us?

Using a lvl 70 HQ shield does not put us in equal ground with every single job in the game. Everyone will have a ilvl 95 weapon from Twintania, except us getting the short end of the stick and getting an inferior drop. How is that fair? I don't understand anyone logic. You keep arguing about Ancient Buckler is not a Coil drop cause of the name. Let me tell ya...it is not the problem, ANCIENT BUCKLER NEVER WAS the problem.

In short the problem is every job will have a full fledge ilvl 95 drop from Twintania, except BLMs, they are going to get an inferior drop and get treated as a second rate job FOR NO LOGICAL or acceptable reason. Honestly this problem boil my blood and we are getting no help from the mods here, we posted about this problem everywhere they asked us to...yet nothing. I honestly now just want to know why we are getting treated like this, a second rate job, I no longer care about receiving an ilvl90 (95) shield, I just want to know why?

A: Progress will not be recorded. However, we'll be updating the Crystal Tower every other patch just like the Binding Coil of Bahamut, and you'll need to clear the Labyrinth of the Ancients that is to be implemented in patch 2.1 in order to take on the next phase in patch 2.3.

Note the part I bolded and underlined. While it's pure speculation perhaps ancient shield and ancient buckler come from this section of Crystal Tower; however, I know it contradicts that i80 gear drops from Crystal Tower. But perhaps these are two exceptions or the i90 is just a place holder until it's released, and it'll become i80.

I suppose I'd be fine with that it just seems a little weird lol.

Even if your assumption is true, it does not solve the under line problem, BLM ilvl95 weapon is less than everyone in the game. I already have an appropriate solution to the matter (SMN) but I wish we are not looked upon as bugs that does not deserve what everyone else are getting and forced to switch to SMN for no logical or explainable reason.

If his assumption is true then BLM will be on par with everyone the only thing that we are missing is an ilvl 90 off hand. Which would be fine if they didn't drop the ilvl to 80.

Hmmm sorry m8, but in what world? if the shield get downgraded to i80, means it will have less stat that what it has on the loadestone, same exact problem stands out.
The only solutions to this problem are:

- We get ilvl90(95) Shield.
Or
- Allagan Sceptre get upgraded to two hand staff.

Either one of theses will solve the problem.

Otherwise, start grinding fates to switch to SMN to be on par with everyone else if this problem do not get addressed.

So guys how about that nice new ilv90 1 handed staff and shield combo you get from the extreme primals relic quest line?

We get one dungeon named "labyrinth of the ancients" on 2.1 (crystal tower) it rings a bell for me
Also if I am not wrong the whm in the CT video is wearing the ancient shield

Maybe there will drop the craft materials? Because maybe thy do it to be crafted who knows?

They have already said that they won't give crafting anything higher than the current content and they want it to always be less than the best gear in the game.

It is official and have been said many times over and over again, crafting will never ever be on the same ground as the best gear in the game for many reasons, RMT for example.


Coil for the next 3 patches, 2.1, 2.2 (Coil update) & 2.3 (Crystal update), at least will always drop the best gear in the game and crafting will never come close to it.

Bumping because I can't imagine there are so few black mages concerned about this.

I hope this does get addressed... Sadly, SE has a bad habit of letting stuff like this slip through the cracks. My guess is that we will not be in a favorable situation til a new set of higher ilvl weapons comes out.

The reason not many BLMs are concerned with this is because not that many are clearing T5 and hoping this will get fixed by the time they do.

I would care more but this is SE so my hopes are almost non existent.

It has a 99%* chance to drop.
