Where is the dev-talk about Mail and Mailboxes?
It's driving me nuts mining in gridania and being unable to send ore to linkmates who need it without either of us leaving our current tasks.
Anyone else?

I want to send it on a moogle. The moogles in this game are just too cute not to see often.
This game needs Stiltzkin,

Aggh. I was trying to link a picture of Stiltzkin, but I fail at forums. xD
yes mail system is needed, but in NO way will save the game at this time. They will get to it
This game doesn't need mail. I mean, WoW has mail. And in WoW, players and RMT grief you all the time by spamming you with LETTERS.
Don't need that, no sir.
Pretty sure I was only kidding!Quote:
Pretty confident we're all referring to an item mailbox -- RMT can send me gold ore all day long if they like. :3
im not thinking of it because its already been replied to by a dev.
You'd still both have to leave your current tasks to go to the mail box to send and receive the items. If you're going to do that, one of you might as well just teleport to the other person.
Most people dont have the extra Anima to make casual deliveries like that. The game definitely needs mail in the next couple months at the latest I think.
They did actually. I cant remember when that was though. In a previous Letter from the Producer I think?
Did this thing called Searching!

loooooooooooooooooool
So I teleport from humblehearth to limsa (3) to make a friend stop grinding to trade iron in the blacksmith guild, teleport back to gridania (3) and walk to humble to keep mining.
In case you didn't know, 1 anima regens every 4 hours.
Or
I can run to gridania mail off the ore, my friend can pick them up when he feels like it and I can walk back to humble to mine more.
Then I have anima to use on more important things like going to camps near nm spawns.
It should be a rule of thumb that anything that requires cross server activity, will take 43 years to complete.
There's zero need for mail and mailboxes.
Just add the functionality to retainers. You summon your retainer at a Bell, add an item to a new section, let's call it 'Delivery'. You type in the name of the person to send it to, and off it goes. The person receives a notice, and when they check their retainer, they now have the items in the Delivery section of their retainer.
Exact same functionality as mailboxes, but expands on existing systems without adding unnecessary and superfluous extras.
You should receive a Moogle Flute at some point in the story, and whenever you use it, a little chime would play and you'd see the moogle come flying towards you and slide on the ground. You can dismiss it without giving him anything, and if you call him enough times, he gets angry. :O
how they solve it i think nobody really cares. The retainer idea people mentioned often and i think that would work pretty well and fit into the current system. But the devs answer dindt even make me lol anymore... rather cry...
This wasnt but a poor dev answer... it was... "facepalm" answer
In regards to the "off-line" thing. Sending items and/or messages to people who are not currently online is another big part of what a mail system should allow. It helps people on slightly different play schedules connect.
I just want to emphasize the message point. In-game mail should include messages too despite the possible RMT issue.
true. And the rmt issue... i never minded that. Its not hard to press the "delete" button on a rmt mail. And its also a way of tracking rmt easier (i think that at least). They game already implemented too many things to prevent rmt, which caused players to leave rather then rmt... i think they should stop the rmt thought rather and get the game in a good shape.
SE said they need to optimize the server first before any mailbox system can be added.
which is funny if you think about how they told us in their developer videos etc. how much they spent on the great server technology etc. etc... so i think its an excuse... well i hope it is since if its not then im not sure who can help them. And its not a new feature... its a very basic feature.
It's absolutely obvious their server architecture is an complete mess. That's the only imaginable reason adding trivial features like mailboxes take so much time.
I don't really remember them bragging about their architecture, but if they ever did, that's probably one of the most ridiculous things that happened during the game development. On par with them saying they will compete with Wow.
And I would pay to have an complete description of their server architecture, this would be so much interesting.
Like I've said in other games, its a terrible idea to inconvenience actual players when you are trying to combat RMT. I would much rather get the occasional spam and be able to send items to friends and linkmates freely than have to hoard stuff or even worse vendor useful items because its not possible or too inconvenient to hand deliver everything.
Mailbox please!
Mognet!!!!!!!!
It's really frusterating to have to find a LS mate with 30+ spots so I can mule over the spoils im stocking up from botany.
My 2 retainers as it is on my taru are full up with gear for all the jobs i play. plus mats for Weaving and Leatherworking.
I am able to make LS members anything they need out of my retainers. This is great, but if i have to mule it over i wont be able to keep stock/track of it well. Plus the aggrivation of having to find someone to help me mule it over and back when needed is a bust in my book.
PLEASE MAILBOXES!!!
GET THE MOOGLES TO WORK! THEMZ LAZY PUNKS!!!
item mailbox? sure would be cool, mail mail? no thanks
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Mail/mail and item/mail are both important parts of a mail system allowing you to communicate with offline friends and LS mates. It allows for communication and item distribution not only across space but also time. As has been said here already, not implementing something because of RMT just creates barriers for legitimate players and drives them away, RMT don't care and find a work around anyhow.
