I think what you're saying is that your abilities bar sometimes doesn't seem to work properly at times and you have to hit the ability a few times.
I have noticed that too, there seems to be a glitch, where at times after pressing an ability on your bar nothing happens and you have to press it once again, sometimes even more.
This has been the case since release and it happens to me all the time. This is not something that should be happening especially in fights where timing and positioning is crucial.
Only happens when I'm trying to hit an ability off the GCD. There is still a delay of about a second after you hit and ability that triggers the GCD. They aren't as instant as they claim they are.
I think this is what the OP is talking about. I have the same annoying issue.
Totally agree, since nobody sees a GCD ticking (ofc not, they are off the GCD) you still have the little animation which makes the playstyle not as fluid which is really annoying, especially when you are trying to get your GCD's filled with inbetween casts and it somehow exceeds over the classic 2,5sec GCD ^^
Once you know the cast-time and ability cooldowns its not too hard to distinguish when you can actually press the button.
I can pretty much play black-mage now without depending heavily on the UI cool-downs after playing it for a week or two after release.
Becomes almost like muscle memory, you just know.

Hallowed ground is the worst though; the one ability you need to go off instantly and there's a 3 sec delay, what's that? It went off but your dead now?... Yeah.....
Yeah works great with Raging Strikes aswell, I somehow managed to use it, then spam Fire I and it bugged like i click it as often as possible so i lose the least time, but then the Fire I interrupts itself multiple times, which is hilarious in fact :P
But that buffs are delayed as hell is really good to see on a BLM, switching from Umbral Ice to Astral Fire and you can cast the first Fire I or Flare or whatever Fire Skill with 50% casttime still :X

This is kinda the reason why I try to avoid making macro to call some skill usage (virus?, some nice cds? interrupts @.@!!!)
Yup! Love that :3 When you get the hand of your latency + the delays in the game *-* Kinda hate it when it changes due to hgiher or lower latency sometimes, lower is always welcomed with open arms tho! <3
And it still doesn't change the fact that you kinda gotta hit it a few times to MAXIMAZE (WOOO) the perfection of your timing o.o
Nah well, I like to spam em anyway to make sure they go off as soon as possible, saving time for later... (OCD much? meow)
Whenever I'm chaining skill I have to spam the keys a LOT to surely get a response, and usually if I chain to fast, it interrupts the last skill. For example if I chain Cleric Stance and then right away use Holy, it will cast to like 10% then interrupt then I have to spam it again through all that time just to get it to work...
I guess it has to do with latency... But SE doesn't care. It all carried from 1.0 just FYI. Had to spam keys there for the same reason and the unreponse.
Edit: On 1.0 we had skill queue which really helped (some people hated it, I guess those who have less lag). Where you could use a skill before the last one ended cast or animation, and it'd register the skill and activate right when the animation of previous skill has ended.
Or even though you spammed cleric stance it didnt go off (NO, did not off and reactivate, just delay took to long that the next action went into place without the first one happening)
Also what has happened to me repeated times is, using flare then even waiting half a second to convert, it took my cooldown, but didnt give me mana (I'm asuming it added the mana before flare consumed it, thus leaving me in the end with no mana anyway)
Or well, what was said about Raging Strikes cancelling the cast. And it has happened to me once that HG went off but boom, I was dead by then anyway LOL. (just once, I mean, this isnt entirely game breaking, but it sure is funny, dumb, annoying and funny again xD!)
Oh well... At least in 2.0 we can sell to NPC items in under 2 hours... ( > . > ;
With instant abilities, you have to wait until your current global cool down is over half finished before it will fire. So, if you're trying to weave, you have to pause after every CD ability before hitting the instant. Annoying, I agree.
Nothing to do with UI or being bugged or whatever. oGCD abilities have animation delay, in that you generally can't use them when you are in animation of another ability.
With oGCDs, you can reliably trigger them halfway between the previous and next GCD. No button mashing necessary once you have a feel for the timing.
Regardless, Button smashing is fuuuuuuuuuuun!!! (plus u can shave off a hundred miliseconds or so, maybe a couple ;P)
The point he was trying to get across is that some oGCD abilities have way too long animations. And the ability going on CD and not giving you the effect is complete BS.
Plus on top of this you gotta ofc add overall delay in the game, anyway.
Ok I correct myself, not him himself, but overall :P His post was just funny. And abilities take long to go off due to animation + (yes, again) delay.

It is long because it's suppose to be a emergency skill.

Pretty sure he meant the time until the effect takes place and not the cooldown time. From when you press the button to when the target is actually healed. Which is delayed MORE than other skills, I agree with him. In fact, almost half the time Benediction goes off (and shows on the hotkey that it's on cooldown too) the animation plays on the target, but guess what? It's dead ! .....
It's by design, don't want to stress those cheap servers too much.
