My ideas for new Jobs they could put in SOONER rather than later

I know there is about a billion of these threads but I thought I would share mine. Using current weapons forced by the armory system, I believe these are jobs they could put in with the next few Updates.

RANGER (Archer 30, Arcanist 15) DAMAGE
Archer guild directs you to an NPC that is trying to hunt down a beast that is terrorizing the forest. Through the resulting quests you find that the beast is none other than FENRIS. After an intense fight you slay the beast, but acquire it's Egi.

THIEF (Gladiator 30, Pugilist 15) TANK
The life of a sellsword eventually guides you into a life of crime. You guessed it, EVASION tank! Enmity generated by Mug, Trick Attack, Sneak Attack.

TEMPLAR (Lancer 30, Gladiator 15) TANK
I see another tank. Possibly more about magic defense and AOE damage, AOE magic circles for protecting party, parry heavy.

DARK KNIGHT (Marauder 30, Thaumaturge 15) DAMAGE
I know, I know... a Great Axe? It is the only option.
I see dark magic abilities, self-hurting for damage abilities. Marauder brings the lifesteal and DPS options, this is not a tank class.

RED MAGE (Thaumaturge 30, Conjurer 15) SUPPORT
I know... no sword. Wand and Shield, horrible, I know. Blame it on the current armory system. What we have here is a switch up to how Fire and Ice would work. Healing flames, Shielding ice. Stacking up Fire would heal for more and more, but burn Mana. Shielding with Ice would regen mana faster but the swapping would make for some interesting Support, I think.

DANCER (Pugilist 30, Conjurer 15) SUPPORT
Counterpart to the Bard. We have Sambas, Waltzes and Jigs. Don't forget to Flourish! A little Healing, Damage, Party Buffs.

GEOMANCER (Conjurer 30, Thaumaturge 15) DAMAGE
Due to your interactions with the Elementals in the Black Shroud, you are chosen to be their champion. I see Terrain based damage, Air, Earth and Water.

It's too early in the game to be adding so many tanks. "More tanks" will not greatly increase the number of people playing tanks, past the first week of fate grinding.

What do people really expect out of ranger? Isn't bard really good dps right now? It doesn't have the coveted limit break, but honestly it makes sense that they don't. (Highly mobile, not interfered with other people's red's, lesser damage taken if kiting, and most importantly, no positional requirements that are obstructed by needing to run away, other people's reds, and your own reds. (I just got to his backside and Titan targeted me with Landside")

How about things the game doesn't have, like a melee pet job like bst or pup? The basic jobs are certainly there for it (mrd+acn = bst, pug or gld+acn = pup), or arc+acn = a physical ranged pet job.

Puppetmaster off of PUG and ACN would be very cool.

Dark Knight should run with a scythe and or great sword.

Templar how would it work if its main base was to take magic damage when 80% of the time the enemy will not be using magic damage ?

Red Mage could go swords just give it a new type the saber and foil if thats to close to GLD then just give them a Mace.

Nuh-uh: PUG and GLD.

Considering mages can have two different weapons, there's no reason it can't mix and match. Once you unlock RDM soul crystal you can also unlock ability to equip swords.

You realize implementing a single job or new class takes thousands of man hours in order to accomplish right? Armor models need to be made, animations, texturing, quest lines, new area's and NPC's for those quest lines, class balancing, QA, not to mention this all needs to be planned out ahead of time. If I had to guess, SE probably has a good idea what the next 2-5 jobs that they are going to be implementing are going to be, and a very rough scheduled release for them.

Sure, they might look at the community for an idea, but simply listing off vague details is pointless. Most of the suggestions you have are very standard and already been laid out in more detail by other members of the community in other threads. It's pointless to make another one of these threads, please go post your fruitless idea's in the relevant threads which have tens of pages of content regarding this matter.

So? All they would have to do is introduce new advanced weapons that pair with certain jobs. Dark Night, for instance could use Great Swords. Equipping either the sword or Soul would automatically equip the other as well. If both are not in your inventory, you get an error. It would be quite easy. Skills are already transferable to different weapon types due to cross class spells, so that wouldn't be a big deal either.

While I agree completely that it SHOULD, the current system doesn't allow it. The mage classes have a one handed and two handed weapon types, but they are separate from each other. They could so easily change their system, but as is this is what we have.

that's because for the major of your jobs they'll have to work on a new class, and not just throw 5 random abilities to make a new job. There is no "sooner". Only "Later"
Not talking about the entire process about designing, developing and balancing a new job. 5 skills may be low, but they can impact the gameplay a lot. I'll make an example: bard's mage ballad.
If ballad didn't existed, they would have designed mages to have more skills to gain mp, and/or adjust the mp you automatically gain every thick. Otherwise, since mp would be scarce, the fights would have to be significally shorter, and for the three of these, it's a lot of work in balancing and testing. And this only for 1 skill. That's to say adding 5 simple abilities it's not something you can do in a night.

Well, I suppose we will just wait years for more than 2 tanks, 2 healers, 2 melee DPS and 2 ranged DPS. Coolio

I realize it's probably just me, but I'm hoping gld/thm turns in to a RDM centered around dps/enfeeble.

The problem is that if Gladiator 30, THM 15 turns into Red Mage, it would have to be a tank class. You have all the skills of Gladiator, which is mostly tanking abilities.

They already said we likely won't see any new jobs/level cap raises until an expansion.

Not quite true they've stated in the past they've toyed with the idea that certain jobs will CHANGE how existing "Class" abilities function. They gave an example about how a Dark Knight can stem from Gladiator but be a dps.

Skills could change, similar to acn. Rampart to a blaze spikes, fight or flight to enfira, etc.

Well that would all be cool, but apparently it won't be anytime soon.

The only thing I wouldn't like is that some of these "new" jobs are paired...which means they will be 50 as soon as they are out.

I already dislike the fact that we can't level the other classes separately. I would hate to get a new Job and have it be 50 already.

They should be new classes with any and all new Jobs.

But the weapon thing is easy. make some Swords only gld/pld and others only RDM and so on and so forth.

Thief can use "Knife's" instead of daggers or something as silly as that :D

Yeah, exactly. I think people are applying too much rigidity to the armory system, especially by weapon type.

We have a system in which your class is determined by what you equip. If SE wants to release a new sword that makes me a Bacon Mage when I wield it, then it is still within the armory system they designed. There would just be a Bacon Mage line of swords that could only be equipped by BCN and not GLD/PLD. The weapon-to-class match up would be odd, but not impossible with the current system. Maybe we call it a kitchen 'sword', instead. :)

Anyway, I digress. My point is that the weapon-to-class archetype is loosely bound by type, not strictly. If SE wants to release 'The White Battle Axe of Heaven' and it is for WHM, then they could.

Red Mages don't use swords.

They use Epees, Florets, Rapiers, and other sword like thrusting weapons. Red Mage could grow from a 'Fencer' Class.

Thieves could use kukri, or knives. Starting with a base class.

Dark knight would be hard, but there could be some class like 'Squire' (Final Fantasy Tactics) that leads to Dark Knight, and uses greatswords.




This could also lead to:
Samurai (Squire + Monk)
Ninja (Theif + Monk)
Dancer (Fencer + Thf)

That's how it will likely be, with regards to having a preleveled class when having new jobs. Jobs are set up to be the equivalent of 'specs', SCH being heal spec'd ACN and SMN being dps spec'd ACN. This is one of the reasons job questlines provide AF - to make your new spec is immediately 'geared' enough to start at the base of endgame when you receive the new 'spec'.

So it's highly probable we'll see a lot of new jobs as mixed matched versions of current classes.

Though I do agree, its SEs game and they don't have to stick to the rigidity of the armory system. Im still hoping that the GLD's dps 'spec' is RDM though :)

These seem like complete wastes of iconic FF jobs, by just halfheartedly tacking them onto existing classes.

"Hey, lets just give Warrior black armor and call it a Dark Knight. Throw a BRD's hat on CNJ, paint it red, and call it Red Mage."

I prefer quality over quantity.

I think scholar/summoner is a good example how they'll do it. As a scholar I obviously play very differently from a summoner. There's a reason they don't want to add new jobs until an expansion. I'm sure (though I could be wrong) they'll do it pretty well. Especially considering they did state that some jobs could even change how the existing class abilities work.

All of your ideas would make a Job that is a carbon copy of its original Class' Job barring 5 Job skills.

Your base class makes the Job what it is. Not the other way around.
Also, ACN was built from the ground up to be dual Job, current Classes were not.
Your Thief would be a shield-less Gladiator (Which makes certain Shield related skills wasted) who would be required to change out an ENTIRE gear set at 30. Thieves do not wear heavy plate armor the way a Gladiator does ...
Your Geomancer would be a CNJ in Cleric Stance with maybe one or 2 two different spells.
If you made a PUP out of the PGL, at 50 your PUP would be a PGL with a pet. Indistinguishable from a Monk except for a lack of Dragon Kick.

Some people say to just change the Traits and Skills to better reflect the new Job. Great! Except ... You just rebuilt an entire class, to give it a Job. Why didn't you just spend that time designing and implementing a brand new Class and Job with its own unique Class/Job storylines?

We don't need 8 Classes and 50 Jobs.

Because people apparently prefer halfassed products, as long as you can churn out a lot of them on a quick and consistent basis. No wonder annual Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed releases are the most popular things in gaming.

We already have that in the game right now.

Your relic weapon and AF2 gear can only be equiped when you actually are on your job not class...

Sure, its just 1 weapon at lvl 50, but where there is one there can be more for future jobs. And who says that this job specific weapon cannot be i.e. a sword or w/e for RDM ?

Thats kinda the problem ... The time taken to modify an existing Class to wholly change what that Class does in a potential Job would take just as long if not longer than just making a new Class+Story.
For example, his Thief idea. You would need to change almost every single Skill and Trait the Gladiator learns to make sense for a Thief, Then create an all new line of gear Just for the Thief to use *only* after 30, and then you have the issue that his Thief would absolutely nothing to do with how you have been playing and gearing the Gladiator.

If i were a Dev, I'd much rather be asked to create a Class than to change one.
"Here, This is source material for a Thief. I want you make a Class and Story for it. When you get done, I want you to make a Job called Assassin that builds from it, Heres the ref material for the Job, have fun"

"Here, This is source material for a Thief. I want you to take the Gladiator, and significantly change everything about it in order to give it this Thief Job."

Well, the problem is you're thinking, instead of just looking up as many jobs as you can off the FF wiki and arbitrary assigning them to classes.

Okay, so they add tons more classes and everyone goes back to level 1. To FATE grind I suppose.

The point of adding them off of existing classes was to make it so people could have a different role. JUST like Summoner and Scholar. But that seems to have gone unnoticed.

Traditionnaly, Dark Knights use one-handed Sword. Only FF XI made them otherwise.

As for the second job unlocked from Gladiator, it won't be a tank. What's the point of having another Sword+Board tank since we have PLD already ?
One "easy" thing they could do to make later jobs easier for Gladiator, is giving Rampart and Sentinel to PLD and Sword/Shield Oath to Gladiator (And change their name to make them less "noble" :p)

No change for PLD as it is now, but less tank oriented skills to limit Gladiator.
