AF+1 or Relic+1?

Title pretty much says it all. Which do you believe you should spend Myth tomes on first: collecting your AF+1, or your Relic+1?

Depends on how badly you want out of the DL lol. For real though, +1 relic I think for all save for tank classes afaik.

Depends on your class and what you are upgrading out of. If you are a bard or tank(minus pally for shield) and are upgrading out of say ak gear then yes the af1 gear would be better overall than going straight for your relic upgrade, for bards it's a little different as chest/legs and possibly a few other pieces are flat out better than the +1 dmg on relic.

Now for other classes though it is pretty much unless you like the looks of af1 more than darklight or even ak gear, getting relic +1 is more of a benefit to your dmg or healing than any piece you could upgrade.

For those coming in here instantly saying get +1 for everything over anything else, i'll say this. Not everyone sees the significance in getting full darklight before getting relic, and honestly in a good enough group it's not needed for titan(my group did it 2 months ago in half dl/ak with ifrit/garuda weps). There are pieces depending on your class that will blow away any sort of upgrade you could get from the relic upgrade when compared to upgrading from an ak piece to a myth piece.

I always get the weapon before the rest. Smarter to take weapon before all.

Except for bard it's only +1 dmg and 1 dmg for all classes is 7 of your core stat(bards get more of an increase through secondary stats off certain myth items then they do from +1 relic). This thread was also started by a tank, so putting 2 and 2 together they were probably asking if they should go +1 relic right off the bat as tank, which depending on the rest of their gear even with +1 having 2 dmg for tanks it is not the best upgrade when compared to other pieces depending on what someone currently has.

Depends on how much you play? My wife doesn't play very much and got her Body 1st and just got +1 last week. She went from doing 980ish crits to a lil over 1k crits. Dunno how much here non crits are.

2 for 1H and 3 for 2H?

Honestly, I wish I didn't upgrade my Sword/Shield and just bought my myth gears cause I hated the Darklight look. Hope this helps you.

depends on how well you can hold hate. relic +1 is our biggest enmity building upgrade, but if you can hold hate no problem its not really necessary.

i would just go get your myth armor. higher stat upgrade and you don't have to sit in a tin can for as long. (not to mention allagan sword is BiS for pallys >.<)

Depends on the job

you can get the cultana on PLD to +1 (no shield, just sword) and then get af 1.5, but for the rest relic+1 is a wise choice to get first. I go with the AF route before get relic +1 and trust me when I say it is a bad choice.

Alt for PLD, you can get AF 1.5 (head/gloves/body) before get relic +1, PLD can manager to tank with ilvl80 for a period

If you're looking at getting the myth gear just to get out of the DL gear, I would say +1 your Relic Weapon and then wait until Crystal Tower gets released and pick up your AF2.

Unless you're a Paladin, because apparently the Valor chest and head pieces are BiS for Paladins.

A piece of AF2 gives me more stat.

so I'll upgrade my relic after I got all AF2.

weapon is arguably the better investment, increases DPS directly better than your armor pieces. You don't get i90 weapons until turn 5, you can get i90 armor and accessories from Turn 1-4. So it's pretty clear which one's a wiser investment

What's all this AF+1 and AF1.5 stuff all about?
It's relic armor ripped straight out of FFXI, shouldn't be any confusion at all. It even has the same names and in several cases same looks

but in any case the relic weapon+1 upgrade is pretty much the biggest upgrade to any class. perhaps the shield first for paladin even though the sword upgrade does help threat a lot?
and even in the case of a bard even though one piece of the relic armor is statistically a bigger upgrade you'll still see a more noticeable difference from weapon

Just good to always keep in mind the damage rating of your weapon is the single most important statistic on any of your gear by a very wide margin

depends what gear you have already and class

For tank

Scenario 1 - DL only and relic weapon

- I would suggest saving for the relic body first as this will give you the most vit return for your myth
- Next I would then go for the head piece
- now you should have a decent amount of HP to do most endgame and a few coil levels
- Next you have a choice to upgrade shield or wait and upgrade pants
- after upgrade gauntlets and or boots.
- finally I would upgrade the one lvl 60 ring you have.
- last I would start replacing DL accessories.

Scenario 2

Run coil 1 a few times see what drops you get and upgrade according to best investment.

All in all it depends on 2 main factors

1. how often do you run coil 1 or 2 and win.
2. how many myth tomes have you got and how long you are willing to wait.

Basically if your doing coil, specifically T4/5 then the relic+1 is the best choice.

Only reason its needed or desired is because we miss crystal tower and ilvl80 items, if we had this then the choice between AF2 or a relic+1 would be moot.

Everyone should +1 their weapon except for BRD. The first thing a BRD should get is their AF1+1 legs

IMO this doesn't take ACC differences into into consideration, especially on WAR. If you replace the dl pants with af2 pants without having the af2 boots, you loose 43 acc, that's a huge hit. Taking acc into consideration, my priorities are: +1 relic > af2 body > af2 helm > af2 gloves > Hero belt > af2 boots > legs (af2 or allagan have same stats) > accessories

^^ this. Calling the current gear af1.5 is stupid and confusing.

From everything I know, its better for all classes except PAL and BRD to get the glow first. BRD the pants are best, PAL can choose between Shield or body + circlet first (Sword +1 is not the best to go after first)

Personally, I went weapon, body, and will have my head today for my DRG, feet next week (I think, have to check how many tomes I will have after buying helm). Planning on relying on Coil and Tower drops for my WHM at this time.

except it's relic armor, it's in the NPCs own description when you do the talking options and relic armor has been around for like 6 years before FFXIV even existed

Well, I got my hat first because I love the BRD hat, and I knew I wouldn't get relic any time near that. I was right; when I finally got relic, I had enough myth for +1. I plan to get all eventually, and I'm in no rush. But, I decided I wanted to get +1 first[ish]. I figured the difference between relic and +1 was greater than the difference between all DL and one piece of AF+1 (or whatever you'd like to call it). Plus, I wanted my weapon to glow... I like to pull out my relic and impress the newbies...
