Lets add the content that cost XI 60% of their subs... good idea.
That is a prime example of what not to do.
Many things that should be taken from XI... abysea is the last thing that should be.
What the OP meant was: Limbus, Salvage, Einherjar and Monstrosity.
I would prefer them to make other options valid leveling options (equal or better then fate).
Both FATE and Abysea zergs where horrible ways to level.
please no.
At the moment, FATE spam. Because you don't have abyssea exp parties that take you from low levels to cap in record time. And at least FATE is an option to use for leveling. I alternate it with dungeon runs and find it more enjoyable than abyssea.
Even taking out the leveling in it. It was hard to start doing abyssea once I stopped playing for a while and everyone had their buffs unlocked. Long story short, I didn't like how abyssea came in and made most content before it completely useless.
Chains took a long time to build in Abyssea and it wasn't so well suited to just quick bursts of levelling like FATEs are. At least FATEs are fairly constant XP from when you arrive to when you leave. And it was in fact Abyssea was far more tedious because you usually ended up in the same spot fighting the same things for 3-4 hour at a time, no variation, only moving as far as the page NPC and back. And then you had the fell cleave parties with 14-16 leeches. I like that FATEs require active participation and you can't just cap a job whilst AFK.
They have said multiple times before FFXIV was even released that content updates will happen every 3-4 months.
FFXIV ARR was released on August 27th 2013, it is now Nov 12, 2013. So the game has been out for two months and 15 days.
They have content but they are following a schedule to release content targeted to their casual audience since they are in more numbers than hardcore. Sorry but that is just the hard reality of the situation. My suggestion is to play another game while you wait for content updates if you are hardcore.
I suggest that every [To the devs] or whatever topics requiring the devs to cater to our wills to be renamed [realmreborn].
making ff14 like vanilla ff11 would not cause ff11 to lose subs. because ff11 now doesnt play anything like vanilla ff11.
If I remember correctly, after 1.0 was going down the drain they moved the team from XI who were responsible for Abby over to XIV and the guy who was in charge of XIV went back to XI (then put out to pasture), so it could quite well be that the team currently in charge of XI are the ones who thought Abby was "a good idea" so careful what you wish for...... Currently XI is back to the "content which requires more than 2 people, a nin/mnk + whm to complete" stuff.
Actually the Abyssea leveling system is already there in FF14, mix that with FATE and you have the fastest way to level. Japan group already knows this and use it to their advantage, working as intended. They gather a group of 8 and then spam regular mobs while waiting for FATE to pop which is about every 7-10 mnts max, all the while stay in ONE small area. Usually they camp the not so popular FATE areas, around La Noscea.
To the OP... no.
Abyssea and Fate is the same thing. Hence why you see the same people dissing them both.
It is large scale parties enjoying fast paced content. Compared to those stuck in old school style of killing a crab for 5 minutes for 260 exp.
No no no no no no no no no no no Never again No.
Not quite, Abyssea was more or less morons paying people to stand their character AFK while everyone else got exp for them. or simply AFking 90% of the time. in FATES you actually do have to do stuff and move. Also P. brew. which was instant no thinking mode.
I think even the devs admitted Abyssea was a mistake for FFXI as it killed it. and that started my downward spiral of bordem for that game. so all kinds of No for that in this game. quite an insult to even suggest putting something like that in this game when the level cap is just currently 50.
Oh it was Abyssea's fault, was it?

As you can see, the subs were in sharp decline before the first Abyssea even hit. Where are you getting your numbers about post-Abyssea, pre-VNM (when the game started sucking again)? Because for every thread from HNM fanboys mad that they couldn't exploit people through pyramid-scheme shells anymore, there were people who had previously quit returning because they heard that:
1. There was no longer job discrimination, nor a need for manaburns or colibri burns, and
2. Small one-to-two party LSes could complete 99% of Abyssea content.
So tell me again how Abyssea "ruined" FFXI?
With all that being said I think FATE exping and Abyssea exping do have some negative parallels, namely that it's much easier to level without actually learning to do your job. Hopefully after 2.1 dungeons give more EXP, however that won't necessarily solve long queue times for DPS (though perhaps some of the other buffs for tanks etc in doing dungeons will assist there).
Abyssea is what made 70% of the game pointless. No thanks
Sorry but NO Never No Thanks. Abyssea ruined FFXI.
I loved FFXI I played it for over 7 years but please no. Abyssea made ffxi into a joke. I would hate to see it in any way shape or form in ffxiv. FATE grinding makes lvling to easy already.
True, but also my opinion that FFXI had stagnated to the point where a drastic change was necessary (and many others agreed with me, hence the chart above). What Abyssea did was introduce vertical progression to a game previously based around horizontal progression. This may have been jarring to some, but the manner in which the vertical progression was constructed was a delight to others, especially those who had never bothered with Sky or Sea shells because of how unfun, drama-filled, and difficult to actually get the gear you wanted it could turn out to be (not because the content was difficult, but because core shell members hoarded drops).
I actually did do all those things (Salvage was the one thing I never bothered with, and good for me, since the shells that were regularly clearing content were also understandably cheating and got perma-banned for it) but I didn't feel like any "work" had been diminished. Perhaps it's because I played the game to have fun with friends instead of have a l33t ffxiah.com profile?
lol abyssea was a shot in the arm that rejuvenated a dying game. whether or not you liked it is immaterial. it put asses in seats.
Comparing the old level 75 caps days to the Abyssea days, I can easily say I had 1000% more fun during
the 75 days. I quit before 80 cap, came back to the 99 cap. I got 99 in one day with gear.
Needless to say, that kept me entertained for about 2 weeks, then I quit again.
If you quit before the 80 cap and after the 99 cap, then you weren't even playing during the Abyssea days.
But I wouldn't be surprised if the game was crap again during the lv99 days. Once VNM was introduced it was back to having a game director who had no freaking clue how to create content.
People keep saying this like its a bad thing.
If running game servers costs X dollars.
Running FFXI and FFXIV costs 2X dollars.
If FFXI makes Y dollars, and FFXIV makes Z dollars.
Motivating players to move to 14 from 11 makes sense.
Using positive reinforcement makes it easier.
Because!
Y + Z - X > Y + Z - 2X
get the OP on your ignore list, since he's opening troll threads every day.
why even answer to that?
how can people not...
i mean how obvious...
*facepalm*
Well actually fates are like abyssea but waaaaaay boring since they are random pop
Lol
