Vanya Silk and requirements for crafted gear that make no sense.

Greetings,

I just thought I would give feedback on my thoughts about the end game crafting, specifically for Weaving. In a nutshell, after I got my WHM to 50, I decided to level Weaving to 50. It was a long process and, obviously, a lot of work. A LOT of work. After, I was so excited to see the 1 and 2 star quality appear before me. I know it would be no small task to craft these, especially with the 347 Craftsmanship and 318 Control requirements, which I understood. This goes on to explain the main problem. I will use the Vanya Robe of Healing as my example, since this is what I was going for. First you need 2 Twinthread and 9 Potash. Efficiently speaking, 1 Potash costs 125 Allagan Tomestone of Philosophy which sums to 1125 Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy. This is just to make the 1 silk.

Then you have to make the Robe Lining which costs another 2 Twinthread. When you have this, you can craft the healing robe with another 2 Twinthread, 1 Rose Gold Nugget, and 1 Silver Ingot. So after everything, it costs 6 Twinthread, 9 Potash, 1 Rose Gold Nugget, and 1 Silver Ingot, 3 Lightning Clusters, and 2 Wind Clusters..to make a robe that is Item Level 70 (green). The Darklight Cowl of Healing (blue) is Item Level 70, covers both head and chest, and costs 1320 Allagan Tomestones of Philosophy. I am not going to go into the cluster costs, unless you took the time to get your gathering to 50 as well. I just ask: How does this make any sense and what is the purpose of this?

Square has gone out of their way to make crafting unattractive and nobody has really been able to put a finger on why.

Oh wow, I never really thought that someone will question and compare i70 item to Darklight, when infact that i70 is far more superior than Darklight when it comes to most of the class.

Darklight Cowl stats are pathetic compared to the Vanya just so you know.

Just to let you know so you would not be surprised when you level up other crafting jobs, there are items, specially accessories, that would cost 18 animal Fat or coke or.. and all these items cost 125 Tomestones ><. I know it will take forever to make one, but it worth it and it is not hard to HQ.

let say for example a Gryphonskin ring, a HQ ring Has +9str, +9 Dex +12 Acc and +9 Sp. you can still meld Vit, Det, Crt and parry materia to it. So in short a melded HQ ring can easly be compared to a Lvl 90 one!
but then again you can either use the 2250 Tomes you worked so hard on to get 4-5 DL accessory pieces or use it all for 1 item!

Tell me more about it, how is it not enough when you can overmeld it with 5 materias? Humhum~

Edit:
If there's something that makes no sense in crafting, it's the 18 tome mats which really doesn't justify the required mats for it and makes no sense at all.

I definitely agree. HQ crafting should ALWAYS have the advantage, but, as you said, look at what you can get to progress with the amount of tomestones.

More and more people are replacing Darklight with crafted gear. Why? Because it makes a huge difference end game. I never bothered with darklight and i crafted sets for both DRG/MNK. Was it expensive? yes.. But it was well worth it.

Disagree. I've picked up both the Vanya chest for my WHM and the Vanya Hat for my SCH. I consider it money well spent.

Astral Ring, over melded with vit and crit is comparable to, if not better than allagan. Vanya Robe properly slotted is much better than DL. If you get the Allagan helm, it's also your only option. Also, these are mats you don't have to farm yourself but can buy. Once people get all their DL, there will be surplus of these mats and prices will drop. I think SE made the right choice.

Seems like you guys don't understand what OP is trying to say.

People will alway try to have gear as fast/cheap as possible (DL gear) to do raid, rather than a slow method (crafted gear).

I make easily one piece a day for guild members (guild size of <100) and see basically everyone that stands outside coil and in Mor Dhona in crafted gear. It's very easy to see people think it is worth the investment just by looking around my server. Numerous people in my guild are gearing their 2nd and 3rd classes in it already even.

This.. Noob guilds run around in darklight with no crafted and wonder why they cant clear turn 4.

Except that eventually the economy will get to the point where crafted gear will be faster to get because people will just outright buy them.
What's faster to get for a fresh 50: a 150k Vanya Robe or a DL cowl that requires 1300ish tomes?

Why is it then, if Vanya robe of healing is so 'not worth it', that I now see more Vanya robes than Darklight Cowls?

Honestly.. the prices are plummeting now that the first wave of 50s are done farming darklight. The only item of consequence for any of the two star crafts are the tome items, everything else is essentially valueless. Vanya robe costs 150-200k to make and youre complaining about 2-3k in twinthread? Not really a problem, at all.

Also, you should look up how to HQ vanya, you'll need around 347 craftsmanship, 340 control, and as much CP as you can overmeld. You'll also need CRP to 50 and probably want ALC to 50 as well. Not to mention CUL to 37 and everything else at 15.

Endgame crafting is no joke, if you don't want to deal with it there is always darklight.

And then you find out the vanya leg costs 18 potash and 9 coke and come back to the forum to whine some more.

now guilds can't complete coil cos they're in DL and not in crafted gear? nice, new one...
Anyway SE didn't put much thought into the crafting tbh, just take the tanking ilvl70 set, nearly costs less tomes to craft it than getting DL

Has nothing to do with bragging rights. It's about having the best gear for the job. Those legs are better than Darklight.

The endgame crafting items are often upgrades for darklight equipment before you get the allagan items. You often only take a crafted item if that slot isn't filled by mythology items.
Since the chance getting an allagan item in coil is quite low in most cases and even more if you have to roll with another healer, dps or tank crafted gear is an excellent upgrade.
And yeah it is a high price but it wasn't ment that you could get all decked out in crafted gear a couple of weeks after this game got out.

You do know that if you do for example castrum with a static group you could easaly do it within 30 minutes wich would give you 100 tomes. So for making the robe wich would require 1125 tomes like you said in op, it would take 12 castrum runs which is equip to 6 hours of dungeon runs.
Or to make it easier if you do AK or WP to cap your myth you would get 1000 tomes if you do WP 10 times to cap out which you need to do anyway.

Or you could just make money and buy the items.. I had two full sets of crafted gear before ever getting a DoW to level 50. You dont HAVE to farm dungeons to get these items.

I just want to say thank you all for your feedback and knowledge, beside the rude, pointless ones. I just successfully crafted my first HQ Vanya Robe of Healing. I still need to research what the best materia would be for melding and advanced melding. The initial point I was making was the time it takes vs. getting the Darklight. This was a lot of work to do and I still feel that maybe the robe should just be a little better than what it is. I understand the mats will go down in price and maybe a couple of months down the road, the Vanya gear will be really cheap (especially after 2.1). Right now the HQ robe on my server is over 500k. Again, thanks for the feedback.

While I do agree that 9 items are definitely a lot, you have to consider that 1) People have more and more tomes by days 2) Philo items are getting cheaper and cheaper. (15k in some servers!)

With this in mind, it's not hard like it was in the beginning to make these items. I myself was firmly against this, but I started to make some Vanya pieces/Astral for my SCH, in order to min-max my stat better. Not like I have better use for those philo (or gil), anyway.

This said, they definitely could reduce some recipe. 18 Ores for a single Astral Ring is a complete and utter joke. 10 would be a fair price. A shame no one in the development team seem to have caught wind of this.

Fact of the matter is:

HQ crafted gear w/ 5 materia slotted properly = FAR better than DL by a long shot.

As some have said, it rivals Allagan and AF2 gear for stat allotment. If you're not serious about raiding in this game, I would advise you to grab your DL gear. But if you intend to do progression, then I will assure you the money and time is well spent.

I just recently began grabbing some Vanya gear for my healers. My SCH is +1 with full DL/partial AF/Allagan. I'm also working on WHM after working on my crafts in order to be able to get the Vanya gear. So, I will be slowly trying to convert my DL to Vanya until I pick up iLvl 90 gear for the slots I'm missing. Also crafted accessories are arguably BiS, even over Allagan/AF2.

For the Vanya Robe of Healing, he suggests Savage Aim materia for Critical Hit increases... Critical is probably more useful for Scholars than White Mages, but the alternatives aren't very attractive either. ^^;

Any 2 star crafted item that only costs 9 tome items is well worth it. But the items like Vanya legs of healing which cost 27 tome items I believe are simply NOT WORTH the time. That's 3375 tomes for one piece of gear, vs the 800 cost for darklight pants. Same with every piece of jewelry, except for earrings, they all cost 18 tome items. I'll be going for them of course and meld some Det and Vit, but still. 20+ runs for ONE piece of jewelry is insane, especially when the only options for tomes are two dungeons that most of us are sick of farming by now, after 200+ runs.

This is an issue with so much of the game. You can't do stuff a few times. It's either once and never again or over and over and over and again and again.

It doesn't matter how well the content is made when you are running it in auto mode hundreds even thousands of times it feels cruel. Crafting, FATE content, dungeons, Levequests, Gathering. They all require farming to be made useful. It's a recipe for burn out.

Sadly that recipe has been mixed, baked, packaged, stored, frozen, thawed, served and eaten in many cases. Before I dropped out of my fc over half the ppl in hadn't logged in in over 30 days and the membership was nearly capped

Actually, of all the pieces the jewelry are the most important. A full set of crafted jewelry will not only get you better DD stats but unless you're a tank itll add another ~50 vitality. Which is around 750 life unbuffed. It's -huge- for end game.

Wouldn't allagans/myth be better though? I can see making 1 or 2 crafted pieces but it'd be much faster to fill the rest with allagans/myth.

Unless of course you're super rich and just crafting the items for fresh 50s. :p

Allagans and Myth could be better, but if you are below ~4.3k HP and on twintania you risk being one shot by conflag. If you already have a bunch of left side myth/allagan you are likely covered as far as HP goes. That being said my Dragoon uses Allagan accesories and 2 Crafted, i have also a couple of allagan pieces on the left side too to help supplement vitality. It's a balancing act. If you're a dead DD you're doing nothing at all.

And to the second point, yeah. If i ever decided to level a mage DD job i wouldn't farm darklight. I'd make another set of crafted gear. It's quicker for me to make gil than it is to spend hours in dungeons.
