How come when I run into a mob i run straight through them like a ghost? That's so unrealistic.
How come mobs have no "life" or "AI" anymore?

Oh God not another gifthorse topic.
EDIT: Whoops, completely misread the username, though all their posts remind me of gifthorse and we haven't heard from him in days too. Hmmmmm.....
And here we go again.
No Vesp.
And yet, you were still able to run through them before.
I will admit that I enjoyed the different behavioral traits the foes once had before, but it did need adjusting. The problem for me is that they didn't exactly compromise, they just removed it.
To be fair, mob behaviour is something that would be nice to see again yeah. They talked up animal pack-behaviour and such pre-release, it's kinda of a shame that appears to have been ditched, and even more-so now.
But still, collision detection can stay gone.
lol /cheers I find these the most humourous threads on the general discussion forums now! lol
Keep collision gone, I would not like having my path obscured by the moving forward rear end of a marmot again as it shouts at me "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!".
What else is missing in this game? Mobs that sight/sound link. Leves don't count, they're already pre-grouped in such a manner. FFXI had sheep that would go plow you over if it saw you attacking another sheep. Here you go attack a nanny and the other nannys would just make threatening motions, and the billy doesn't so much bat an eye.
Troll thread is very trolling!
I actually agree but it isn't something i would complain about, what annoys me more is how close mobs like to stand to you in combat often ending up inside you when they attack, now thats unrealistic.
WTF!? why so many ppl hating on what I think is a very important topic.
Whatever, if your serious about collision detection go here.

I Do prefer collision but i'm not going to care its gone.
My issue is the lifeless npc's/mobs.. The world looks so vibrant, but its so empty at the same time.
Everything just stands in place like a statue, would it be so bad to have npcs wander back and 4th?.
For the mobs things like sheep following each other, they could group up, when a player runs at them they scatter so you can pick one off, pick one to close to the others and well they all jump in on you.
Some of the the aggressive animals attacking others around it if they get to close?
And now after seeing the massively oversized mice, we could do with critters wandering around, just to give the maps a perspective again. (or just put in the mobs the same size they were before or at 0.75 smaller but at Lv0 with no loot table).
I agree
running through a dreamtoad or another large size mobs doesn't make sense
and this thread just proved that you guys only using bias instead of logic, you stated your hate to the OP even it's an important topic
I couldn't care less, it a video game and tbh most MMO's allow you to run through monsters and some objects.
As for monster behaviour it was cute at times and extremely annoying in others so I would rather see it removed, those goats were frikkin annoying.
Disagree on collision; while it may provide "immersion", it's frustrating on many other levels. No collision with NPCs PCs, and monsters is huge for convenience.
Agreed on monster behavior, but the problem with that is that EVERY monster before acted the same anyways. They all had a ranged attack, they all aggroed the same, they all had the same chase distance, and there were way too many that just sat there and followed you around (compare that with FFXI where only one or two types did that; there, it was a more unique behavior). There was zero creativity put into the monsters from the start.
CONVENIENCE CONVENIENCE CONVENIENCE CONVENIENCE CONVENIENCE.

All you ever care about is "oh that's not convenient enough" whenever someone suggests somethign immersive. But when someone wants to implement jumping or if someone wants to implement FUN, then, what do ya know, convenience is no longer a good reason to implement those things.
At least jumping is REAL.
Running through mobs and people is just ridiculous. I dont want to play a game with a bunch of ghosts. That ruins my immersion and I dont care if you think its not convenient enough for you.
If the only thing that was important in a game was convenience, then there would be no game. It would just be an automatic win button.
Is that what you really want? Is it? Is that what you really want? An automatic win button?
What? Have you ever looked at the monsters in this game? Have you ever studied their movements down to their eye movement? That you can literally see their joints and tendons moving realistically? The monsters in this game are pretty creative for what they are.
That's a large step up from most MMO monster design. Maybe you're confusing creativity with a lack of proper aggro mechanics.
I'm inclined to agree with the OP on this. Without the collision detection, creatures and other players seem like ghosts.
I preferred FFXI's collision detection. Sure you got stopped by things, but if you kept pushing for a second or two, you could walk through them.
I don't see why this approach wasn't used in FFXIV. Its really the best of both worlds.
After watching Jurassic park, they should have done this with Raptors:
You attack a raptor that you believe doesn't suspect you, and when you attack, two more come at you from the sides and you find yourself being triple-teamed. :O
That would actually be pretty cool to see, but it would start to suck after a while since it'd be too hard to beat them :P
Well it was in the game since beta, but then the first thing Yoshi did was remove mob behaviour and collision detection because "he just felt like it."
And then he increased mob size "because he just felt like it".
Basically, Yoshi's mentality is the more unrealistic the better.
Maybe that's why we can't jump too, because it would be too realistic.
Yikes, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
What we had before isn't true collision. True collision is when you literally cannot pass through another NPC/PC/monster. The stuff we had before is somewhere halfway between no collision and collision, which was extremely awkward in a lot of ways. Getting caught on a monster that just decided to change positions made me want to toss my controller at the screen, especially if I was busy running my ass away from another monster.
Real doesn't always imply more fun, but convenient DOES.
For the record, I'm all for jumping (which is both real AND convenient), and no, I don't want an automatic win button. But good job with the strawman arguments.
I thought FFXI had this, but I haven't played in forever so I wasn't sure. I certainly wouldn't mind this on the mobs if we're able to push through. I've just had enough with Black Shroud paths and having to swerve around every mob that's moving forward and straight in front of me.
Vesperia....Im Not Sure But I Think You Make People Wanna Punch You
SE WHEN ARE YOU GONNA MAKE IT WHERE MY CHARACTER HAS TO POOP IT BREAKS MY IMMERSION THAT MY CHARACTER DOESNT POOP!!

This is a review from ArcheAge:
Besides that, the physics influence on other factors: Your characters movement slows down as he enters the water - the higher the water level is in relation with his feet, the slower he runs, until he starts swimming. If you step onto a very steep surface, your character will fall on his ass and slide down. We are very happy that the character stands realistically. There is no such thing such as having one foot in the air, while the other one stands on a small mound in ArcheAge. The character will place one of its feet on the stairs, and leave the second one on the ground, if it's possible.
The character models do exist in the game as well, so your character can get pushed by players, and they can not pass through you. You can block entrances with your friends, and there will be nothing other players can do apart from paying you money to pass, or trying to knock you around with control spells. We have once stood on a bridge and traded materials with some other guy, and he got hit with a passing by cart and dragged away. Unfortunately, there are no animations for that yet, the characters just slide, so we hope that is on their must do list!
If anyone had trouble bumping into people because of the nice collision there surely isn't that kind of trouble anymore because most players have quit.
Also I'd really want to know the name and exact address of the guy who "complained" about it in the first place.
I've been bumping into people in xi for years and it does nothing but improve the game.
