AURUM HELL

Ok, i'm seriously starting to feel dislike towards this game just from this one duty. I've never had this much trouble with a dungeon in any MMO before, and I have to do it to unlock Amdapoor Keep for the relic weapon. The last boss is just a wipe monster. I've run it 7 times so far, and each one keeps wiping till the clock runs out. This last one lag was an issue for everyone but me for some reason. Regardless, anyone else find Aurum Vale much harder than it should be? I mean my GOD! Ultima Weapon went by with a lot less of a headache than this place DX

No you dont. Level your GC, you'll get a quest for Darkhold. Once you do that, you'll unlock AK.

Hello OP; for this dungeon I strongly suggest a black mage though it's not neccessary. What is nice however is to have someone that can do decent AoE damage very quickly.

I've run it with quite a few different setups, my favorite has been PLD, WHM, DRG, BLM though ... but really it was only my favorite because for once I got to play BLM and was not stuck healing e_e!

If you can get a group of friends together or even a shout group so you can keep at it until you beat it, it'd be best but you'll be surprised at what some well-timed AoEs can do to the last boss.

Another thing on the last boss; if you're healing, try to keep everyone's HP topped off and make sure to eat your fruit at around 4~ stacks of the debuff. It's helpful before you start the fight for people to use the signs and mark which fruit they are going to take so that people aren't caught without a fruit later in the fight.

When she runs to the middle-ish area and starts popping out pods, be sure to AoE the bejeezus out of them (WHM with cleric stance + holy can work in a pinch but they may find themselves running short on MP, so ballad is a big plus here!)

Yeah, I did this one a while ago and recently did it again to help a friend. We had Paladin, Monk, Blackmage, and Whitemage. The WHM and the BLM were able to AOE the seedlings very quickly while the Monk stayed on the boss. We ate fruit at 3 stacks because in that area there are plenty of them. Also, it reallllllly helps if your tank can avoid the easily avoidable badbreath attack that the last boss has...otherwise that's just one more thing your healer is going to be dealing with...so the tank needs to run through the boss to behind them to avoid that badbreath AOE attack.

You can unlock AK two ways, ign wiki's arent that awesome, its just people compiled, Ive never beat Aurum Vale cause at the time on SMN it was too hard, I skipped it and at 50 unlocked AK.

What's the alternative way? Because I've done my grand company, and There is a quest for Aurum Vale currently. So I don't know how I'm getting it through them

O_o I never had any problem with this "hell". actually I did it once to unlock something that I already forgot and I also forgot who's the last boss of that place.

maybe you're just undergeared or getting bad players in your party or you're the bad one yourself. I'd like to know what are you gonna do when you reach Amdapor Keep if you think Aurum Vale is hard.

The quest was changed, If you read a patch note, from Amdapoor Keep to Aurum Vale for your Grand Company. Now you have to complete this dungeon as a prerequisite. Unless you grandfather'd yourself passed it already.

I think that WP, AK, CM, and prae are all easier than Aurum Vale...
I hated that dungeon as well, never setting foot there again

u probably had people who didnt know about the mechanics. communicate and make sure every knows abt:

1. eating fruit
2. kill seedlings (vvvv low hp)
3. get the tank to pull him away from the seedling spawn point so he wont do bad breathe on everyone when the party os burning the seedlings.

to be absolutely honest i had some trouble at first but only because i was rubber banding as the healer.

Aurum Vale is pretty close to how a dungeon should be tuned IMO. It's not "hard", but it has mechanics that everyone needs to pay attention to, such as the fruit. Coincounter has abilities that aren't highlighted by a big red "dis bad mov plis" marker on the ground, making people watch the bosses movements and react accordingly. There are mobs that need to die quickly or else the fights can get a whole lot worse, such as the morbol pods.

All around it's a great dungeon, and I'm hoping that new ones they add in the future are similar in difficulty/mechanics.

Aurum Vale is indeed a frustrating place and in a lot of ways it can be more difficult than later dungeons.

A few important things to remember; while it is a place that really taxes your understanding of the game, it is also a gear check, if everyone isn't in mostly 45+ gear it will not be fun.

Also, the Morbol Fruit in the last phase germinate into much more difficult Seedlings than previously seen in the dungeon, also the Seedlings in this fight add stacks of burrs, so best to deal with them before they germinate, to that end a blm or a bard make this fight tremendously easier than not having one or the other.

Fruit management is as much a part of this fight as dealing damage, avoiding breath and killing adds. When you start getting stacks of burrs over 3 you will take significant damage when he uses it's corresponding ability, but it is very possible to run out of fruit and be stuck waiting for a new set to pop.

All of that being said, you don't need this dungeon to unlock amdapor keep, but you do need it to reach the GC rank cap. You can unlock Amdapor either from your GC or from Nedrick Ironheart in Vesper Bay after you have finished the main scenario.

Recent update change this, the final GC quest now send you to do AV instead of AK.
So now you need to clear AV to gain access to AK.

That's just it. I went to Nedrick, and it wouldn't let me unlock it. I have to do AV to gain access to said quest

I prefer to have my tank sit on Mistress where she stands while Sowing that way DPS can stay targeted on Mistress and AoE from there. If you do it the other way with your DPS targeting a single Fruit you can end up with two DPS targeting the same one and someone can end up missing a very crucial cast or chance to use a WS due to their target dying mid cast/WS thus allowing 1 or more of the seedlings to spawn. Targeting the Fruit can also cause an AoE not to reach all of them.

Something else you can keep in mind for the seedlings is Holy. If your party has a whm just let them roll up and holy the seedlings. It helps a lot toward getting them down quickly when you don't have a limit break.

I have done AK a million times and have not once ever entered Aurum Vale. However, it appears they changed it so it is required now.

I found AV to be properly impossible to complete as SMN. SMN just doesn't have the AoE/burst dps to kill the seedlings before they hatch. I would highly recommend bringing a black mage and bard for good AoE or make your white mage (you did bring a white mage instead of a scholar, right?) Cleric Stance+Holy the seedlings.

Which brings up another thing I've found about the game. There are a number of boss fights that feel downright impossible if your healer isn't doing dps as well. I had a ton of trouble with the final boss of Qarn, of AV, and the jelly boss in Wanderer's Palace until the healer (sometimes myself) decided to help dps through certain phases of adds.

I don't think this is a swell dungeon for the DF system. It's very unforgiving to new folk, and the allotted time limit just isn't enough. Even with a fair trip around with learning the encounters, the allotted time limit is pushing it.

I have no doubt with all four members who know what's going on, they could wipe the floor with the place. But that's just a fact of gaining experience and learning. Having gone through that I have the firm belief that this dungeon is just too unforgiving with it's time limit for people who have a different group on every run they attempt through DF.

I mean, this is really the best advice. It's still hard, but try to make sure your party is at least aware of all the mechanics.
Eat fruits at 3 stacks, so people don't need to run around looking for them.

I did this as a BLM my first time. It wasn't bad at all.

I've done it a few times, but I've always had a friend with me. You might consider pugging in Mor Dhona or where the dungeon is, just to get it done.
This dungeon just has a lot going on, and you might need like minded individuals who just want to get it done. Not duty finder pugs who leave after a wipe or two.
Hopefully one has good aoe.
As a SMN, you can use your LB to kill one set of seeds. Maybe two?

This was the only dungeons I think I saw the dungeon timer go under 20 mins left.
I think we finished with less than 10mins the first time I did it.
Second boss caused more wipes cause the tank and melee had to get accustomed to the abilities without a red circle.
Afterwards, I did it as a monk. It was much harder cause my aoe could hit maybe two seedlings at once (none if used on the boss, unlike my blm aoe).
We still got through, even with a bad tank.

The very first time I've done AV was on SMN. I just used tri-disaster, which hit them with bind while I ran in and miasma2'd if I could and tri-disaster'd again if I had to. Very first run through. It went fine.

It might have just been that the bind was just enough to give us time to kill them before they hatched. It was a while ago for me too, so I really only remember that it worked and the other dps didn't have an aoe, so it was just me. XD

Ah didn't realize Miasma II and Tridisaster were strong enough to kill them. This was also about two months ago when I was still leveling/learning SMN and assumed a 10 potency DoT was useless.

Tank help is equivalent to healer help I guess? Also, I was specifically talking about as a SMN dps in Qarn since I could not for the life of me kill the verges by myself in time (SMN needs about 2.5 GCDs to do good burst damage, which is longer than the cast time on the box verges' AoE). Or maybe I was just a bad back then. Can't really say for sure anymore. :P

With tank and 2 dps all on morbol fruits you can kill enough such that only one or two seedling spawn, and that's enough.

If you have a blm or a good whm, it's really a very easy instance. Otherwise morbol fruits are somewhat of a challenge but still very doable.

I agree with this, I like miser to stay right in the middle of the spawns so aoe can take em out, as blm you can take them out with 2 fire 2s.

I also say tank eat fruit at 3 stacks but the ranged dd's can usually take 4-5 before taking fruit.

My little FC group has been doing AV for the first time and Coincounter was giving us fits. We ended up winning by just having the bard kite him around the room. That way when he stopped we knew he was about to do something mean and to get away. :D We're hoping to challenge the last boss next time we're all on.

This is your problem. First time I went there, I went as SMN. The group was very and strong and helpful, but we wiped over and over at Miser's Mistress because I couldn't keep Garuda alive and I couldn't AoE at all. We tried using my level 1 Limit - worked two times, then at the last Sow we wiped because it didn't fill. Spreading debuffs wasn't enough, doing Ruin II on fruit per fruit wasn't enough, bringing Ifrit wasn't enough...

After that wipe fest, I felt so guilty that I leveled BLM to beat it. Still extremely hard.

I honestly wonder if it's even doable as SCH.

OP you did not indicate which class/job you are using for this dungeon but I am guessin it is SMN.
I think in general, this dungeon is difficult for pet users, the best way is to have swiftcast to be able to quick summon your pet. The only problem with final boss is his Aoe which you can avoid easly and the adds. You have to gather around the boss when it summons the adds and kill them as soon as possible. This is my advice. if you fail to kill the adds before they start running around, then you are most likely to lose this fight. everyone should help killing those adds.

I ran this dungeon using DF, our all-cat party was: BLM BRD WAR WHM. To me, 2nd boss is the hardest to beat. Last boss is just eternal spam of AoEs and watching for morbol fruits and TP. Don't let the adds hatch, because you'll be overwhelmed in seconds. The biggest bummer about it is the lvl 49 sync.

TL;DR - try getting a BLM to help with this dungeon.

Good to read that I am not the only person that has trouble with this dungeon's boss. (Moreso the adds, the boss itself isn't very special.)
But I also see some solid suggestions in here.

Ah well, all I can do is keep trying I guess.

I never had an issue with going as SCH. I find being able to pro-actively DoT the boss, Bane them to the seeds, and then follow up with a Miasma II is very helpful, especially if there's no BLM. And its not mana intensive to do this at all, unlike with WHM and Holy. The biggest thing with respect for healing as a SCH is placing your fairy and asking your ranged party members to stand closer to the final boss rather than right beside their chosen fruits, b/c it makes it far easier to heal them if the fairy can reach them all with regen and embrace. The run from the midpoint between a fruit and the boss isn't that far, and it makes things go a heck of a lot smoother.

1) Make a macro that details the fight. Something like:

/p This fight is similar to the first one. For this fight, tank near back. Face boss away from party at all times. ONLY GRAB FRUIT on your 3rd stack. You MUST watch your stacks. When boss drops seeds, BURN THEM. AOE is your friend here. If you spawn seedlings, BURN THOSE.

Priority for this fight is seeds > seedlings > stacks > boss.

2) You have great odds that there will be at least one AOE person in your party. If your party is not taking crazy damage (meaning high stacks and standing in boss's face), and you have a WHM, have them do 2x Holy on seeds and that takes care of that.

3) Or have them do 1x Holy and have DPS do 1x their AOE.

4) Or just have DPS burn single targets as best they can if you are stuck with an odd group (which should be very rare). Then have them burn seedlings. Then back on boss. Tank should always take boss back to tank area, facing away from the party.

My first run through this dungeon was just as you described, but after I learned the fight and made the explanation macro and took initiative as a WHM on seedlings, I haven't had a bad run since. I ran that dungeon at least 30 times while leveling.
