It would be pretty sweet to go back and show friends what it used to be like in the last hardcore MMO.

FFXI is not the old hardcore FFXI anymore. That said I would LOVE a good discount on FFXI. If it was like somewhere between 5 to 8 euros if you have an active FFXIV subscription I would subscribe to FFXI again just to have some fun on my BST.
Oh I certainly realize that. You can still play it the same way. I wonder what the sort of meta of the game really is for people who want to level "au natural" and refuse to go Abyssea. Like, I can imagine the player pool is VERY scarce, trying to /sea all lfp would be very interesting just to see how many people in the 10~50 range there even are. I imagine some would not mind level syncing down, but, truth be told the only way it would really work is if you got 5 other friends and just went at it. I mean, despite how hard many remember leveling in XI was, if you had a solid static you could totally get stuff done.
I just think it would be a great gesture of SE. I have hardly any reason to play XIV (and obviously, much less XI) but it would still be fun to mess around over there.
Discounts are for casuals.
Why should you get a Discount ?
There are people on FFXI that are loyal and continued to pay their subs while you ran off into the sunset and came to this game and god knows how many games before this game........
That said , I think FFXI players should get a Sub Discount like Legacy Players with a special Tattoo that says " Hey I stuck this out while everyone ditched it and ran off" .
(I by the way , was one of the ones who ran off) . FFXI players should get something special for their loyalty to a game that's is one of the Oldest MMOs still running .
XI has been running for so long now, they should consider dropping the monthly fee a few bucks anyway regardless if you play XIV or not. Maybe even additional characters are now .50.-.75 instead of a dollar. Go back to the good ole 10 dollar days!
Because they will almost certainly make more money overall. The sub is a bit too high overall to justify me paying it when I already pay for XIV, if it was less, I'd consider it. Int he end, all that means is more money for SE. Others might do the same, there is really just no downside to it.
Dont they have some bundle to sub for both games? Couldve sworn I saw something like that somewhere. /shrug
XI is their most profitable title to date, dropping or reducing the sub would be silly.
except it is what they did from day 1

Finally, if you decide to keep your Final Fantasy XI account active, Square Enix will give you a $5.95 discount making the monthly fee for Final Fantasy XI $7.00.
Give me a CoP era server (the last time I seriously played the game) and I'll sub. That means no level sync'ing, no page burning parties, cap @75, no /dnc making solo'ing a joke. I want to grind Valkurm Dunes til my eyes bleed! /hardcore
They did that day 1 in XIV 1.0 and subsequently ended that just as quickly as they started it - This isn't true as unless you're a 1.0 player you cannot get Hermes Sandals anymore.
I still pay $14.95/month for XI and 9.99 for XIV, so they most definitely do not have the dual subscription option active.
I picked up the game for a few months and dropped it ~6 months ago. You won’t find anyone using the LFG group anymore. Even if you had 5 friends to run a static with, leveling the old way might still be impossible. The AH doesn’t have much low level gear anymore, so you would have to find some crafters willing to help out and gear your entire party. I found that people aren’t as willing to donate their time as they used to be. Nothing is free and inflation is high. I was able to get a few old school parties going for the sake of nostalgia… they got boring fast really fast. It’s hard to value the xp you’re getting when you know you could be leveling up so much faster.
Hah, that's pretty interesting, if not depressing. To be expected, though I suppose. I was curious about the gear aspect for sure. I wonder, if any feasible way around that would be other than desperately clinging to signet gear, not that it's that sustainable anyway. I'm curious if my old character has anything of value, or if my gil would be enough to get a few friends set for a bit.
Currently we have no plans to implement a similar discount system like the one that ran during the launch of FFXIV 1.0.
I do like this idea.
But I think Final Fantasy 11 (especially since it continues to introduce new content) is worthy of it's own subscription fee.
The problem though is Final Fantasy 14 has made such a huge dent into Final Fantasy 11's population. The game is almost like a ghost town now... which is very sad to see. So I do think they should implement this change, if for no other reason than this.
this is sad news :( I was considering reviving it for at least a month or two to show my other half what the previous FF-MMO was like (including how cute the tarutaru were).
Coming from another angle, I would gladly have paid a few more bucks more had SE found a way to connect both 11 and 14 as one world/parallel world via moghouses as originally envisioned.
When MMORPG was first invented, the Gaming Gods said "Thou shalt charge $15 a month, or not at all", so no MMORPG is ever allowed to reduce their monthly fee.
Honestly it's pretty ridiculous to think that $15/month is the exact profit maximizing point for supply versus demand in EVERY SUBSCRIPTION MMORPG but you can't argue against the Gaming Gods.
I stopped my FFXI account, 12.95 + $4 * exchange rate = 19.95 for a game I'm not really playing much. But 9.95 + exchange I would totally have both, on the off chance of logging into the other. Ie when FFXIV is offline for a evening.
I should also get a discount for other FF games I've bought over the years.
Didn't have to be a bst could just agro a gob have it chase you linking the rest then run and die beside someone or run back to kazzam then zone and watch them kill any afkers or party camps that couldn't deal with them or not paying attention. I liked killing rmters either by when their members get charmed any you start killing them while they frantically typing phuck off in very bad English or mpking with stoneskin blink and warp
No, no, no. It ended some weeks before old FF XIV got shutdown forever. FF XIV never went f2p, it got an extended free month from first launch 2010 until p2p start january 2012.
edit:
It seems the FF XI discount during FF XIV p2p was only for 3 month
