Why so stingy with Inventory Space ???

For the life of me i have no idea why SE is so stingy with the inventory space.

Seriously.. I leveled Fisher to 50 .. space was an issue to carry all the different baits...
yeah... I know there are 200 threads talking about getting a Tackle Box.

Let me finish.. So I leveled Cooking to 50 and find that in order to make lvl 45 -50
menu items.. I need to have at least 45 individual materials to make 15 different dishes.

Now.. compiled on top of that... My Armor inventory has taken quite a big hit as each lvl 50 job i have requires 1 of each lvl 50 item. for Quick change i have to leave these in my armor inventory.

SE also placed a armoire in the Inn. which will hold my AF gear but not AF+1

Also the Starlight Celebration swim gear.. Why does only certain colors fit and not the others ?

As for the Halloween costumes the GHOST wont place in the armoire but the color pumpkin heads will. Please SE give us 100 inventory slots for Each JOB. :mad:

To add.. My retainer inventory is full of pink and greens that i farmed from AK and WP for other jobs not yet leveled.
I may be hording these items... but since it is a lottery drop i dare not throw them away. I keep them for the purpose of I might... level these other jobs one day. So.. on top of that.. i collected alot of converted materia. Alot to be exact 25 different types. That takes up a whole page of Retainer inventory. Why oh why SE can we not have inventory space set up like the MARKET BOARD ?

I agree, some more inv space would certainly be VERY welcome!

As for the AF being put in the armoire, if any of the AF is damaged, it doesn't allow you to put it in there...

These little touches might seem like they aren't much but fixing them would go a long way.

In most MMOs, the player levels one adventure class (and maybe 2-3 craft/gather classes) per character. If one wants more classes, they level alts (and gain the benefit os the alts' extra inventory space). One of the selling points for XIV is the ability to "do everything on one character".

However, the player who decides to take advantage of that selling point and level several, or even all, of the classes finds him/herself severely penalized in terms of inventory space. The player attempting to 19 classes has the same 450 spaces as the player leveling just one class. That makes no sense.

If that player elects to go the more traditional route and roll alts (mules) to gain the extra inventory space, the player is still penalized, because there is no way to share inventory between alts without A) asking a friend to deliver or B) buying another account.

I like your suggestion, Aray. I'd like to add a few modifications: Start players with 100 spaces and add another 25 for every adventure class the player levels to level 10 or 15 (that way, people won't have a bunch of level 1s and tons of inventory space) and an additional 100 spaces for every crafting/gathering class. Or, allow players to buy more spaces in 25-50-100-slot increments.

As I've said before, there is a lot to like in XIV, but inventory management is not part of that list. Inventory management is in dire need of a complete overhaul.

Yeah need more space i would be happy if they would add 3rd retainer that doesn't sell anything... just stores items. i'm having hard leveling up crafters almost evenly

Or something like Crafters Toolbox or something that holds crafting items

just let us craft from items that are stored in retainer

You don't need to hold onto everything, especially for fishing and cooking.

While I do want a tackle box, most baits at high levels become obsolete and there are many cooking and crafting ingredients that you can just buy cheap from NPC or in some cases, like Table Salt for example, just buy the mats for and quick synth whenever you need it. I only hold onto anything that is relatively difficult to get.

Anything like vegetables/fruits that you usually only need 1 of per synth, are extremely quick and easy to get a lot of, and don't require any crafting to be used in recipes is stuff you should definitely not be hoarding.

I did something similar but I sold all of my HQ mats. Once you get the crafting cross class skills it becomes easy to HQ using NQ mats.

With fishing sometimes it is better to use lower level bait to get fish needed to mooch, and catches them better too, not that it is hard to buy more low level bait again... and most fish is useless

The problem with inventory space is that while you get a lot of it compared to other MMORPG, you have even more junk. You basically have to consult an external site just to know if some random crafting material is of any use since you almost certainly won't know that Grenade Ash is used in exactly one Alchemy recipe, for example. Or that there are something like 10 types of fish out of 100+ available that's actually used in something. In light of this you should just have 999 spaces so you can store all the junk that you may never have a use for. Other games have less inventory, but they also have less junk to store.

Just wanna say that I have all job capped, an active crafter, and I have no trouble at all with inventory
I think this was addressed by the DEV back in 1.0 that more inventory will causing more stress to the system. Though I havent read any similar statement in 2.0

just stop hoarding, and sell effectively

I dont know if anyone mentioned this but do you think with the implementation of HOUSING that there will be any inventory considerations? I can't think of much housing would add to the game if there wasn't any form of chests to store things etc etc....

They just need to get rid of the slot layout for the retainer... Turn the retainer into an organized list structure with unlimited slots.

Inventory management in this game really is absurd. I've had to resort to discarding or selling off every that is not level 50, and then when I need to make something that is lower level I go to the board, buy the mats I need, make the item and discard any remaining mats... just to keep my inventory somewhat managable...

For people who enjoy collecting stuff with most of the classes, this really isn't good inventory design at all...
At the end if you want to hold into all the gear and stuff, you have to make alt ;(

Yeah, like if I need to turn in 10 of some common gather items, I'll just go buy 15 or 99 of it from market board and then vendor the rest because it's not worth the time to find another spot to store this item. That's just messed up.
