Just a quick thought on Loot.

I just finished running a dungeon today looking for a piece of loot, we were 1 dps down and did a 3 man boss. When that happened, a new party member joined just before the boss died, and the piece of loot dropped. I rolled need on the gear, and a did the other person. They won it.

I believe it is wrong to do all that work, and 3 man a boss and to have someone who was not even present in said fight, randomly join, and win the loot over me.

Would it be possible to introduce a feature that prevents people who have not participated in the boss, from rolling on loot? They can still net exp and such, but just prevent them from rolling on the loot.

I understand it can be abused like any other feature, but i believed it would provide fairness for those who "earned" their loot, instead of someone who did not put in any work, benefitting from other peoples effort

Thoughts?

I saw a similar problem while doing castrum and praetorium runs. Someone would DC and just so happen to reconnect right at the end fight.
Barely any work and bam 100 stones.

It's very frustrating to have a big part in the success of a dungeon and/or run and not be rewarded for it.

Nice to have feature, expect it to be implemented in a few years after all the real issues are addressed.

I suppose, but I still find it annoying that people can benefit from zero work.

This along with a whole new batch of reasons exclusive to FF14 is why most people loath dungeons and raids.

You could always decline to search for a new member, I guess?

Is that really possible? I joined a group in progress for the first time this morning as a lancer and when a DPS item dropped it only let me roll greed. Thought that was a measure in place to avoid such problems.

Semi-related since it's still about people rolling need on gear. What I'd like to see is that if you have better gear and more than 5 levels higher than the piece(so people can't go in with crap gear), you can't hit need on it. Too many times have I been in a dungeon, a piece drops that I actually need for the job I'm lvling only to lose to a person who wants to spiritbind / sell it. If people want to spiritbind gear, go do it from npc/craftable stuff, don't roll need on it over someone who will actually use it for something they're lvling.

DEX+ is BRD/ARC, cloth STR+ is MNK/PGL. It was probably one of those, even if it says 'DoW'.

had an issue once a while ago where my old fc was farming ifrit for weapons. it was just after that one patch that caused many people to dc often. we used duty finder to find 1 dps (who happened to be a BRD, the class i was trying to my weapon for). i dpsd a good 70% of that fight, then got the 90k error code. log back in just as ifrit went down and could only greed on the bow, which of course i lost to the other BRDs need

Such a blanket statement, I actually had to look that up to remember what socialism, at it's core, was. I do not believe that socialism has any merit at all to my suggestion, aside from the fact of you get what you earn. I just don't think it's fair to provide someone reward, for joining in progress.. especially if they do nothing to earn the loot drop.

Joining in progress is fine, it really is.. and I very much encourage such actions, just do not expect to sit outside the boss room, and still be able to roll on loot.

You're implying that people join in progress for the sole purpose of rolling on boss drops, that they did not help earn.

Adding in something like this would be more fair to the people who worked hard to down a boss short-handed, only to see their hard word (the drop) get taken by someone who contributed nothing to the fight.

Woooooosh... that joke really flew over your head, didn't it?

On topic, I don't think it really matters that much. If it's a dungeon prior to lvl 50 then who cares, you'd have outdated the gear in a few levels anyway. If it's lvl 50 dungeon, you'll outdate the gear pretty quickly as well. Yeah it might suck initially but really, who cares? I don't think it's worth the time and effort of the devs to make it so that you can't join a party after the last boss fight starts.

Personally, I'd rather they change the loot table for the final boss in a dungeon to provide 1 useable item per character there when the area is 'sealed'. Sub-bosses and random chests are good 'as is' with 1 item for need/greed or coins.

Too many times have I run dungeons only to lose every need/greed roll. And to blow upwards of an hour with no reward kinda makes you wonder 'why bother'.

When you consider missing cutscenes should it be your first time, missing the other loot, spiritbonding time and exp that came before you joined, there would be little motivation to "join in progress" if loot after you joined was blocked.

If SE wanted to modify it, they would need to give some other kind of motivation to join in progress and make it worth it because figuratively, the join in progress is benefiting those who did the dungeon up to that point and had the disadvantage of losing a member before the content was finished. I imagine that people would just complain because people ditched and thus they can't complete the dungeon without them and without a join in progress option to give them a replacement player.

A joke about socialism, or possibly one about how it relates to an opinion; possibly circumstance? That joke was not funny, nor relevant. My point was not aimed about gear usability, or even whether it is good for whatever number of levels. I was simply stating that if you get into a boss room, you should be locked for who can vote on drops; if someone joins in progress during a boss battle, they should be unable to roll. I do not believe this was a "Crying" thread, but more so a helpful suggestion from my point of view.

Why not just have WoWs system where people can't join a dungeon while the players are considered to be in combat with a boss. On one part to prevent stuff like this from happening as well as the fact it'd really suck for DPS who have waited in the dungeon queue for a while only to jump into a group 3 manning the last boss who they aren't eligible for.

Simple, the current system is socialist in that everyone has an equal chance for a fair share of the loot, regardless of effort involved.

Also way to ignore the second half of my post. Thing to remember is really dungeon loot doesn't really matter. At some point you should be spamming AK for tomes anyway and it won't take long to get all of the AK gear you will need which will be replaced fairly quickly with DL. And all the gear from every other dungeon will get replaced even faster (with the obvious exception of coil).

Way to ignore my post, considering I addressed that. I specifically stated that a piece of gears viability, whether it will be useful for a long time or a short time, was not my point.
I'm talking about loot availability, not whether it matters if it will be replaced later or not.

In WoW it's 5 people, 1 loot. Raiding is 2 pieces per 10 people, or 6 per 25. Tell me again how this is a FF14 exclusive "problem"?
