Really, SE? ALC recipes are already bad because no one actually needs potions, the recast time is long and now you even need TOMES to craft a set of 3 potions? Not to mention that over the half of hi-level recipes for Alchemists are elemental resist potions.
Crafting 3 X-potions = 12.5 tomes of philosophy.

Crafting in general is dead weight right now. I plan to level cap them all because I do enjoy crafting, then drop my sub until they take the dungeon grind out of it and fix the shard situation. If they don't, it was fun while it lasted.
None of the two star are worth tomes. It isn't just Alchemy. -

The hilarious part is that X-potions drop from CM chests. So you will can get them cheaper running CM and getting tomes as a side bonus. If you actually needed them...

Alchemy is the worst. People at least spam food in dungeons and raids. Nobody spams potions because the pots themselves are so weak for the cost to make. 500 MP on a long cooldown? Joke. 300Hp heal on a long cooldown? Total joke.

I honestly use my HQ X-Ethers. Get a group from your FC and run AK twice. Everyone chips in 125 tomes for 10x Voidsent Blood and you have enough to make 120 HQ X-Ethers. As a whm they help between Shroud CD's. I farm my clusters myself and run AK anyways for Myth cap

Im not feeling the shard problem, if you hit the nodes hard and quickly I can probably pull up 1,000-1,100 shards an hour. it take somewhere around 6k shards I think to do 1-50 so 6hours to grind shard to level 1-50 isn't too bad.

The problem is that the potions themselves still don't have a good utility. The potions need a shorter cd.

CM gives NQ, not HQ.
Right now tome mats are ridiculously expensive because everybody is still buying darklight so tomes are at a premium. In 6-9 months the prices will likely drop (just like Disciple of the Land mats drop in prices as more people farm them), the lvl 70 crafted gear will be less appealing due to better gear from dungeons/raids, and using (now cheap) tomes on Alchemy potions will start to look more attractive.
It's just stupid expensive right now because there's a million better uses for tomes. In time Alchemy will probably be the best usage of tome mats.... unless they're required for housing furniture recipes in which case who knows, hehe. They might add gear recipes beyond 2 star to keep the crafting/materia system relevant, but we won't know until then if they use philo mats or not (if such recipes are even added). -

Even if tomes become cheap, as Bufkus said, the potions are not even useful. And SE explicitly said they will leave the as they are ("no plans to revise how medicine works", from what I remember). And IMHO CM drop being 1/8 chance to get is still better than wasting tomes better spent elsewhere...

The problem here is, even if you HQ the potions, they won't be worth squat. Again: how will having a potion that restores <1k hp on a 2(?) minute timer help you in any situation, especially considering the damage most high-end encounters dish out?

I don't enjoy talking down to people at all. It gets a little annoying to see people whine about something that is just fine. I just cant grasp why you feel these potions are useless. I craft these for my raid every week it takes me less than an hour to do and they help out a ton. Potions were NOT meant to be something you rely on, and the developers have said as much, they are the extra nudge to help you out. The potions are -fine- and they do what they are supposed to do. The only complaint that I have is that you have to choose between a restorative and a buff.

I'm not whining, I'm voicing my opinion. Currently I'm scrapping together every tome I can get to get my classes geared. Maybe later on, when I have left the philosophy tier, I will have some leftover I can spare to craft some potions. I still don't see how they can be of any use at that stage, I'd rather use my cd for damage spikes using potions.
Not strictly on topic, but it's still unclear what the devs were thinking when they made half of the 2star recipes elemental resistance potions, previously taking out the elemental wheel outside of the game. It isn't even clear why character have elemental resistance at all. -

Actually i spend the majority of my time crafting and in between (Or while autosynthing) i come on here to post. Considering I likely have more experience than anyone else in the thread regarding both crafting and end-game raiding I probably have reasons for posting here. As I said above, its annoying to read thread after thread (On differing issues) about people whining and wanting X to be made better or easier because they think (without any evidence or experience to back it up) it should be. I make these items for myself and my raid and they are useful. I think so, my raid thinks so, my FC thinks so, and so do the developers of the game. You're more than welcome to ignore me, but that won't change the fact that you have a weak argument and are whining about something that is fine.
Potions provide a 61 point increase to a major stat for 15 seconds, combined with other cooldowns and regular use they can increase DD significantly if the entire raid is actively using them.
Potions also provide a way of relieving stress on your healer when you inadvertently take damage. They heal you more than Second Wind does (A set sub ability) and when HQ are even on a lower cool-down than said ability. Compounded WITH second wind they can heal you for quite alot. Saving healer GCDs and Mana can be the difference between a fight wiping and not wiping.
Potions also provide you a way of replenishing your MP and extending the number of heals you throw out, the number of spells you can fling, and the duration of bard buffs.
Elemental resist potions can provide you with ~15-20% decrease in incoming damage to a chosen element. Of all of the potions these are probably the least useful, but in certain circumstances I can see them being used.
As I said prior, the ONLY thing i would change about potions is the fact you cannot use a restorative and a buff potion on different cool-downs. The potion's effect themselves are -fine-.
