I may screw myself over and get Valor Chest to replace my Allagan Body just because of how smexy it looks.

I'll be picking up my Relic body later this week. /excited

Getting the chest seems like a massive waste of Myth since it's the first drop in BC. You'd be better off getting things like the Helmet/Gloves first.

That may be true, but the look of the PLD relic armor is so much better than the look of the Allagan armor.
I never picked up the DL body/head piece, I went straight for the Relic Body and glad I did. Now I'm just debating on if I should get the Valor Crown next or upgrade my shield to +1....

The difference between the 2 Chest pieces is miniscule. The issue is you're more likely going to get ilvl 90 Chest from BC before getting a ilvl 90 Gloves/Headpiece. So you're decreasing your ilvl essentially, it will eventually right itself, however, 835 Myth puts you back 3 weeks.

I agree, its why im not buying myth chest for 900 myth, such a waste when chest from first boss.

It amazes me people prefer look over time / efficiency.

Im still torn between curtana + 1 or getting gloves.... many ppl say +1, others say +1 for a PLD isnt that useful.

Mythology spending is a SURE bet. You will always be able to farm your 300 per week and guarantee yourself a BiS piece. Minuscule... you understand what BiS means, right? Waiting for a rng drop *COULD* span months. Time/Efficiency makes no sense in the argument when you are bringing a random element into the equation. This person is literally being more "efficient" than you by grabbing the best upgrade in a more definite way than farming the content.

To answer your question about Gloves vs. Weapon, wouldn't weapon fit your own personal theory? Since Turn 5 is weapon drops and you won't be close to downing that where as Allagan gloves (BiS) drop from Turn 4? Valor Helm should also be in your equation.


Chest and Legs are not only BiS for PLD, but look cool and mesh well with Hoplite Helm and Feet to hit your necessary caps for BC.

Tank DL body is a helm/body combo. It's fugly as hell, Reminds me of Alexander though.
And Valor Body + Hoplite circle is slightly better that the DL body for tanking.

My only decision now is to either +1 my shield or get the Valor crown.

Let me guess, you bought the Chest first and you're trying to justify it to yourself? When you have enough Accuracy all you should aim for is getting as high item level as possible as the rest of the stats yield no significant increase to survivability.

I wouldn't go that far since it is considered to be BiS at the moment. I know a lot of people including myself that aren't even running Coil until Crystal Tower comes out so I don't feel like I wasted anything. :P

Determination does not effect how much you are healed for that's just a bad translation what it does is affect the potency of your cures and is basically .5 str however without the parry str gain.

Things determination would effect is blood bath, and cure atleast for a pld.

But yes, I can see where I read the description for Determination wrong after I went back and relooked at it.

The difference is still minuscule between the two.

Just to jump back in here, lol I wasn't thinking this would turn into a debate on which is better. It depends on your other items IMO. I was holding out for the Allagan chest as well, but when it didn't drop this week and I had the stones for an AF2 chest, it was worth it alone to get out of that Darklight gear. Also I took into account that the other tank in my raid has neither the af2 or allagan chest, so now if it drops he has no competition, so we can both gear up.

If you need the accuracy, the allagan chest is better, if not, AF2.

The original intention of this thread was just to show how happy I was to get rid of that ugly ass armor, and figured others like Hiir would also like to. Hence why this isn't a blog post that nobody will ever see in a lodestone. :)

Exactly this. I'm not even sure why there was a debate in the first place.

BiS is ilevel 90... waiting for drops is a ridiculous idea.. a tank in our group 1 has yet to see a single drop after weeks of raids on 1 thru 4.. if it is an upgrade.. buy it! I have the allagan chest, belt and then PLD\WAR myth helms. Does not matter that Allagan helm is better than both I am noy wearing hoplite till we can clear turn 5 and I can POSSIBLY get the helm drop.

I was wondering if this is a better purchase...
Buy that HQ 55 chest militia, and instead buy the valor helm.

Would doing that be betetr than relic+1 or gloves?

Determination does NOT affect how much you are healed for. I tested it with a fellow WHM. Determination affects how much your healing spells actually cure and also increment a little bit your damage output. Thats why you see DET in healer gear.

For PLD Cure spell is useless so for us its only useful to increment DPS and thus emnity but still is quite small compared to strength, you need to add 5/6 DET to achieve the same that 1 STR gives you in DPS.

Also in Coils of Bahamut the higher level enemies have quite a bit of evasion and if you dont have the appropiate amount of accuracy you will miss a lot of hits, for Tanks this is bad because it breaks you emnity combos.

I did a stat comparison of full Allagan and Full AF2, it's only like 4 points of Acc difference and 1 point of parry difference. If you think that's going to make or break your character then go with Allagan, otherwise go with what you want. AF2 also has 30 points of Crit which Allagan does not have so it's a wash either way.

Allagan and AF2 are sidegrades. Wear whichever one you need, personally I like the looks of the AF2 and I know I can get them with simple grinding and not having to rely on a rng drop rate.

The secret is to mix both sets anyway.

Tank DL chest/head is just horrible. SE really needs to focus more on how gear looks. It's not rewarding when you level up, wear chest/head pieces because they're good, then hit 50 and there it is again: different colors, same sh*t. In fact, no (close to) endgame gear has to look anything like leveling gear.

I have good hopes they'll 'fix' this though. It just looks really bottom priority atm. Tanks sharing the same gear, horrible. AF2 (tanks) looks nice, but would rather see something different cosmetic-wise compared to AF1 (other than the colors being changed).

Why is everyone calling AF+1 AF2? I mean hey, the AF2 that was shown is sexy... But how do y'all have it already? ;)

On a serious note, just go with what pleases you looks wise. It is why I am avoiding the tin can as much as possible.

It stems from XI. The relic gear (which would be Mythology gear here, or AF+1 as some call it) was always referred to as AF2 for short hand. Then there was also AF+1 and AF2+1, which were upgraded forms of their predecessors.

No, the point is people are calling AF+1 AF2; Not that I don't know that. AF, artifact. It's just silly that people are calling AF+1 AF2, when in reality Yoshi-P only showed AF2 not too long ago...

Accuracy isn't terribly hard to come by anyways, since 3/4 of the allegan accessories have Acc, as well as the shield. I'm currently actually over cap at 493, because I'm currently using the Allegan Shield. The shield dropped the week I was planning on +1ing my shield, so I can't just use my holy shield anymore.

Its because for warriors AF+1 is actually BiS over the Allagan Chest Armor; maybe not the same for Paladins, but at least you also know an ulterior explanation for other classes.

Darklight armour is the best looking armour in the game... or at least it would be if you could hide the helm.
