Repair in dungeons! Please show the devs how essential this is!

It's incredibly inconvenient that we can't repair our equipment in dungeons. My WHM cane just broke in a dungeon and my healing decreased by at least half, rendering me totally useless to heal through the dungeon.

I had no choice but to drop out of the dungeon, ruining things for the other players and giving myself a 15m DF lockout.

It's especially ridiculous since I had all my Carpenter equipment and Dark Matter right there in my inventory.

Show the devs how important it is that we make DF groups less inconvenient! This will help with the bad reputation DF groups and the FFXIV community in general is getting. Add in your support on this thread for dungeon repairs!

No way do I want another way for people to be jerks in Duty finder, like changing to a crafting job and crafting the whole time.

Is it really that hard to be prepared for a dungeon?

What condition was it in when you went in? If items cant survive from 100% condition then yes I agree with in-dungeon repairs. Otherwise you really should have all gear repaired before you enter.

Although I haven't had any trouble remembering to repair my gear before a dungeon, I don't think it would hurt the game if they added an armour mender NPC at the start of the dungeons.

That I have no problem with, and would encourage.

Next step ppl will ask for a retainer and market board in dungeon when they forgot to take out some equipments/food/potions.

How does that happen?
I think if you entered a dungeon and wiped on the first trash pull continuously in the quickest way possible till the time ran out , you'd be at like half durability at the end.
At least, that's how slow it seems gear goes down. I wouldn't mind a mender in the dungeons, but I hardly think it's "essential".

Even in 1.0, where it was possible to switch the class in the dungeons, we repaired our stuffs between the dungeon runs, not during a dungeon run.

Repair your weapon before you join the DF or have a 2nd weapon in your armory chest.

I really doubt that tons of people would join dungeons, switch to a crafting class, and be a big useless troll. That's just the same as going AFK in a dungeon now and I don't see that happening outside certain endgame things where they want to be carried (and measures will be taken against that BS soon, I'm sure.)

Anyway, if you're concerned about them changing classes, maybe they could implement a repair for dungeons where you just change to your crafting class automatically when you click repair on an item, and then it automatically switches you back to your combat class right away after the item is repaired. Thus you aren't out of your combat class for more than a second. Problem solved :)

Right, right, you should always be prepared and all that. But we're human, if people end up making a mistake and forgetting to check all their equipment ahead of time, which will always inevitably happen somewhere to some group, does that really have to ruin the dungeon run for everyone?

So many people are complaining about how bad the community is, and how awful DF groups are. Part of the reason for this is that tiny, reasonable mistakes that tons of people make can ruin the whole dungeon run, because FFXIV makes their dungeons less convenient than other MMOs. Why would you be against them making DFs a little more convenient in a way that makes sense???

Allowing for a few mistakes like this in dungeons make DF groups less frustrating, and doesn't make the gameplay easier or anything.

It doesn't make any sense to be able to buy stuff when you're in a dungeon, but it does make sense that you can repair your equipment if you have the crafting class leveled and the dark matter with you.

Are you all so desperately against convenience and good quality-of-life mechanics that make the community happier?

She has a point - It truly isn't hard to prepare before you hit that Duty Finder lol.

I always carry a spare weapon for my main classes. Sure with a weapon/tool for all classes including hand and land i don't have much room but it's saved my performance on runs that included multiple wipes

Why would you go into a dungeon without fully repaired gear? O_o

Unless you die a hell of a lot in which case you should be buying new gear, not repairing the crap stuff.

If you level multiple classes at once, and have several sets of gear to keep track of, sometimes people make mistakes. It is indeed not that hard to prepare ahead of time, and people certainly should prepare ahead of time. But if I end up making a mistake, distracted during a long play session, and I have the equipment to repair my gear right there in the dungeon, what option do you think is best:

A) My ability to repair my equipment is arbitrarily disabled and my simple mistake ruined the dungeon for other players. They could have been waiting in the DF que for a half hour and all that time was wasted because one player - who they had no control over - made a brain fart.

B) I can use my ability to repair my equipment that I have in all the other parts of the game. I end up not wasting anyone's time and SE's gameplay mechanics have thus fostered a happier, nicer community that isn't depending on each other to never ever make mistakes that have nothing to do with in-combat gameplay.

This would be awesome... maybe a wandering moogle or something a la Stiltzkin? Hmmm... now that I think about it, we need more npcs in dungeons, not just for quality of life stuff, but for dungeon mechanics, like you need to talk to an imprisoned turncoat lunatic priest in AK to trigger a fight with their jailer, etc.

... anyone else want to see something like that? Make 14 dungeons like other FF in that we'd actually learn some about the story of the dungeon through talking to npcs, etc. Like the treasure hunters in WP, they shouldn't count as mobs, they ought to be npcs that offer lore and such.

As for your option, as I'm leveling multiple things currently:

A. While unfortunate, that generally is the consequence for your own actions, it's USUALLY done by people who just simply don't care, but I personally like option A on the level that it shows you what happens when you fail to be observant - basically learning from mistakes.

B. The obvious choice and something we could do in 1.0 so no one should argue against it.

As said, I'm not against it, it's just, if you're in such a rush to get into a dungeon, bad things can and should happen :p We gotta learn from mistakes or we'll keep making em.

I did this once. Got into the lull of grinding CM all day and it totally slipped my mind. (Mindless grinding will do that to ya.) It felt that at nearly every encounter I was getting the pop up message for low durability % on different pieces of gear. I started the second phase of the final fight with all my accessories broke, 1% on weapon and 3% on some armor pieces. My weapon broke on the first enmity combo... Rest of fight was interesting. XD

having different pair of gear for reserve is also a good idea
you can still change your gear in dungeon
so if your main weapon is broken, you can just change to the other inferior gear
it's still better than a broken gear

Just make a habit of getting your gear repaired after each dungeon, should deal with the problem.

It happens and especially in DF its flipping rage inducing to have a party members gear go to 0%

If your cane was already at breaking point, why didn't you just fix it before the dungeon started? :/

Just read your other posts and you're saying how it was just a mistake, fair enough. But mistakes are a part of the game. You wouldn't ask for a trampoline to bounce you back up the side of Demon Wall if you made the mistake of getting knocked off would you? This is no different. Keeping your gear repaired is part of the game.

Let's take this fantasy realism thing a step farther... A battle party sets out with a caravan full of supplies, including food, replacement gear, repair equipment, and a cook, armorer and whoever else they may need in addition to the battle party. The journey would likely take weeks to reach their base camp, and from there the battle party would trek into the mountains alone, in search of Titan's cave. After several hours of spelunking, they finally come across the monstrosity, and battle begins. Now whatever you have with you is all you are gonna get. Your armorer is waiting back at base camp. So you better have been prepared with your gear in the best condition possible. Because the battle will be long.

BTW: I have never come close to having my gear break when I started at 100%.

It would be worlds better if you could just meld and repair any gear you've got the right class+level for without having to change classes.

Wait, are people seriously arguing that everyone should have infallible memory when repairing gear? I take it those are the folks who have just beaten the story and have run maybe three dungeons, right? Because with the amount of grinding the devs want you to do to gear up all your jobs, you've had to have gotten a 10% notification in the middle of a run at some point.

As of right now, there is only a single notification, and it's when your gear hits 10%. I joined a CM run without checking my gear first, and right after the first boss, my weapon and half my gear dropped to 10%. "That's alright," I thought, "I'm sure 10% is enough to finish this run without any deaths." Except it wasn't. Apparently, 10% can only get you from the end of the first boss to the end of the third boss. Why is the notification at 10% if that isn't enough to get you through a full dungeon run? As much as I love looking at myself, my first instinct isn't to check my gear every chance I get, and I'm sure it's not for the majority of players.

Having a mender NPC at the beginning of a dungeon isn't some slippery slope to having the full housing zone in dungeons. Only a supreme fool would think that's the case. And you can't expect people to repair at the start of every dungeon run when the Duty Finder is so convenient. You might as well force the Duty Finder interface to be through the damn Merchant & Mender if that's to be expected.

This seems like a case of the devs not thinking things through. A simple notification at 30% or so would probably alleviate a lot of needless gear breaks, just so people don't have to teach themselves to check their gear every other run. I really can't believe people think this is some sort of feature or something we have to live with.

It's apparent why SE doesn't allow repair in dungeons(not that I agree), they want us to be ready, locked and loaded before entering. Those who aren't ready with the right gear, and fully repaired will suffer being gimped with damaged equipment.

In addition, even if you entered at 50%, you should be good to go and complete the run. Changing gear can happen but not classes, so repairs would be out of the question.

I would be down for open dungeons, in fact I'm asking the community to push for open dungeons so there's a bit of picnic-runs.
Bring back open dungeons for exploration and farming!
Open dungeons are like the ones from either FFXIV 1.0 or like FFXI... a zone of their own or a non-zoning area where's there's trouble around every corner except for a selected camp.

Understand why dungeons are the way they are but ask Yoshi-P to introduce new dungeons.

I haven't.

My reasons are:
A) Dark matter takes up precious space
and
B) Switching through 3-4 different classes to repair my stuff is BEYOND tedious.

I'd rather farm shards than repair an inventory worth of stuff.

While I do get your point and all, I don't really think this change would matter all that much compared to any amount of time they'd have to put into it. Human error can happen with the dark matter and all too.

I would think a better solution would to have an NPC at the beginning of each dungeon that could repair equipment and that's it. No selling to him, no items for sale, just a repair guy for those times people derp. I would suggest adding the option to leave a dungeon and come back to it without dropping group and all, but I could see that causing a few headaches without a kick feature and people just generally being jerks sometimes.

They already have a way to repair your own gear. What they need to change is to allow you to do it without changing classes, just as long as your DoHs meets the requirements and you have the Dark Matter.

So you made the mistake of not repairing your gear before you went into another run and your stuff broke?

That sucks. It's also, as you rightly said, a mistake.

What are you supposed to do when you make a mistake? ("Class?")

You learn from it.

Learning doesn't mean you get a free pass to screw up again without having to care.

I repair my own equipment all the time. I've only spent about 300 gil on NPC repairs and I have 10 classes over lvl35, with most being closer to 45.

This is a perfect solution :) Exactly as you say; you shouldn't have to tediously change classes to repair your equipment, it should just check your crafting level requirement, check that you have a main hand tool for that craft in your armory, and the right dark matter, and just let you freakin' repair your stuff no matter what class you're currently geared as.

You're right, I learned from this mistake. From now on I'll definitely be double-checking all my equipment before I que up on the DF. But is it really worth it to let people make this mistake and learn from it when it wastes other players time, ruining their dungeon run and making them reque for 30+ minutes? It's not the same as learning from a mistake in a Primal trial that you can just do over immediately.

I don't think the game should make everyone in a party pay for one person's occasional non-combat non-gameplay mistake with that much time wasted.

The other reason this whole thing is unacceptable is because I've spent so much time and energy into leveling ALL the Disciple of Hand classes. My skills from these classes should come in handy when I need them. Now it's just another way that crafting is less useful in 2.0, because of a bad programming/design quirk.

I would love to be able to repair inside of dungeons...


....so the people who forget to repair outside of dungeons don't screw up the run -_-

I was running the story quest from CM to Preat and forgot to repair my gear from one to the next and all my stuff broke on the last boss. I had to put on poo gear and we switched strategies to have the WAR MT. I felt terrible! BUT we worked it out and pulled off the win, even though I had to watch all my cutscenes in old gear :( It made it that much more interesting and memorable and is part of the game. No, they should not change your diaper for you and hold your hand through everything. I certainly do not think there should be repair NPCs in dungeons.

I'm personally not asking for repair NPCs in dungeons.

I just want to be able to use my hard-earned repair skills whenever I need them, that I worked for with all of the Disciple of Hand classes. Being prepared by keeping my DoH equip and lots of Dark Matter on hand at all time should be just as effective as obsessively checking my equipment and repairing it as soon as it hits 30% every time before I hit the DF que.

There's nothing "diaper"-y about that ;P
