Limit Break Animation to long for a DPS.

EDIT The Delay between the Animation and when the Damage is applied is to long. There is nothing wrong with the Animation Itself its the Delay between when the Animation goes off and the Damage is Applied to the target.

I've noticed it before today many times. But today was the breaking point for it, So I was doing WP with some new ppl in DF the Tank couldn't keep hate off of me at the last boss the SCH,BRD,PLD all died LB2 was ready to go and I popped it, It would have killed the boss but I got hit with Everyone Grudge right as I hit the ground to finish the LB. So wasted the LB which would have killed the boss and saved the run.

Please Fix this if there aren't already plans to do so.

Best time to use it is right after reapply GL then you still have time after the LB to keep GL up

Ok I don't think anyone even read a thing I posted. I didn't ever say I wanted a "Instant I-win button" WTF are you people going on about. So in a party with a PLD BRD SCH my MNK I should not use the LB GTFO

See again you didn't read. I've done that run 20+ times ( I didn't post that) anyways LB2 would have killed the boss I'm 100% sure. I know how to control my hate, I even jumped off the boss to help the BRD kill the adds (thinking that would help the pld build hate) and then I took hate after 2 rotations so me not knowing threat was not the issue. And again I hit the ground to finish the LB but because the delay in the animation and when the damage is applied I got hit with EG and died when in fact it should have killed him.


Oh and no they don't need to nerf WP. I like it can do it in 20mins, So its a nice alt to burning Castrum/Praet. But thanks for your concern.

For something that does as much damage as a Limit Break does...

I think the animation time is just fine.

Your issue, isn't everyone's issue.

It should be used as a last resort, or a means to inflict heavy damage. If you think your Monk should be able to inflict 3,000+ damage to a single mob with one punch, and not a combo'd Limit Break attack, then you sir are playing the game wrong and understand nothing of the Lore and concept of a MELEE DPS.

It's mainly an issue for MNKs as there's a large chance they will lose their Grease Lightning stacks, which equates to around 30-40% DPS loss.

wrong...after fighting a boss for 5-10 min and you do not know its rotation when it safe to use Limit Break then you are not the one that should be using LB. This is not even a issue you just want a instant i-win button

What's a limit break? As a WHM, I have never actually used one after 228 dungeon runs so far..../envy DPS.

If the limit break has been spent the damage should have gone through. This is obviously a flaw within the game, if you had still had the limit break after death then I think that would be acceptable but to use the limit break to no affect seems bugged. Animation lock sucks, it was such a huge issue in 1.0.

I agree with this. When the limit gauge is no longer full the damage should be done with the animation as a fancy addition for cool factor, OR the LB is not used until AFTER the animation is complete.

I agree with you OP. This same thing happens to me quite often in AK. When trying to take down one of the bees, Im constantly killed by the pools when I finish the animation.

The same thing happened when using the LB on Titans Heart. While in the animation, he popped landside which I was caught in, because of the animation.

To be fair...you do like 15k damage with it so...It's fine. Just be smart about when you use it.

Lol, I had summoner in group, he start casting Limit break on titan, 1 sec later landslide hit him, but the limit break went off.. but didnt do any damage at all cause he died, basically just wasted limit break as well. (We cant help but burst laughin at him for that. Although i think that is issues that it didnt going off even though the bar limit break is gone.)

sounds like one of those dps who would LB ifirit before he jumps and readies his charge

Anyway, if you complain as a DPS, healer have it worst. animation where we actually freeze, then raise animation too on everyone

I wished other classes would realize that you need to be smart about using it, rather than tanks just screaming for LBs the very second the bar is full.

For the Gnats IDK what Job you are on but I play MNK and like to save Shoulder Tackle for the left one as soon as it spawns which stuns him and then I LB if we don't have enough DPS to kill the wall and let the tank hold the gnats. Also for DRG Spineshatter Dive works great brings you to target and stuns and you should have enough time to lb and move to the middle.

Yes this gets really annoying. A lot of my AK runs I go with a BRD so Its up to me to LB. I never really have problems but its up to me to decide when its time to LB not when the tank or whoever else is in the pt.

No, youre not getting it. So basically, out of all the things that went wrong ... youre gonna go after the LB animation, hmm? You hit the LB too late... simple as that. The ONLY way LBs would be broken is if a player can do more DPS with a regular rotation vs an LB. Highly doubt thats the case. Even so, LBs are an optional "oh sh*t" moment button ... theyre not even needed. If the group wiped it was the groups fault ... not LB.

"youre gonna go after the LB animation, hmm" what? TBH with an LB which usually does around 5k DMG I'm sure a MNK/DRG could do that much by the time its over LB2 or LB3 no. It was an Oh crap button I used it because it should have killed the boss and saved the horrible run I was in it took 6 tries to kill the boss and it wasn't anything on my end.

IDK why I'm having to defend myself because the delay after the LB is done. When the Limit Break Bar(s) is gone the Damage should be applied not wait 2-3sec after I land and hit the ground. It may never happen to you but I'm wiling to bet that one day that LB will make or break a run for someone when the run actually matters.

Perhaps they need to implement some kind of a stun to the monster when using LB. Make sure it can't be exploited, and that should take care of most concerns. ASA the Animation starts, the mob should be in a stunned state unable to act. Its either that or make it where the DMG is done at the start of the animation, but have the mob react to the death after animation is done. That way its at 0 health, unable to act, and your animation doesn't get you fried. I guess those two are kinda the same, but that's what I think is needed. I really like some of these animations even after seeing them a 100 times, I'd hate to see them shortened, when there are clearly easier ways to deal with the situation.

Youre having to defend yourself because its not an issue. Yes, you used the "oh sh*t" button and im not doubting you wouldve won otherwise... but it wasnt enough or timed well. You probably couldve also won if (i dunno) Greased Lightning had a bigger damage buff, still doesnt mean it needs to be buffed.

You wanna talk about animations? Let's worry about shortening the jump animations before we worry about the ability that does 11k damage.

Greased Lightning's damage buff is fine as it is, it's the wearing off too fast that is the problem. If they buffed greased lightning anymore then MNK's dps would outclass everyone by a metric shitton.

Haha, you guys are really complaining about the DPS limitbreak animation... have you seen the level three healer LB? It's like 15 seconds long, incapacitating the healer for the entire duration in addition to applying the usual Raise animation lock on everyone it resurrects. I understand that it's supposed to be a last ditch effort to save a really screwed up run, but the way it works now it's practically guaranteed to indirectly kill as many people as it raises.

I think the DPS one is fine. It's not that long for the amount of damage that it does, and you can easily hold off on using it until a time when you know you'll be safe.

This is more an issue with how all abilities need their animations to go off before actually applying their effects, than with LBs in general. Brutal Swing, Spirits Within, Benediction, Hallowed Ground just to name a few of the most grievous offenders, are all utility abilities that have stupid long animations when you need the effect right now.

Yeah Tier 3 Healer LB is pretty pointless considering raise lock and no invincibility while being raised (this is being fixed though supposedly). Tier 3 Mage and Melee aren't any better though, nothing like unleashing a Meteor or Final Heaven just to blind the entire Raid Party for 3-5 seconds while the screen fills with light because OMG SO SHINY.

Would it really be so hard for SE to make the user of the Limit Break invincible during the time it's animation is going off?

DDs wouldn't die if they needed to do a clutch LB to kill somebody (or lots of somebodies, in the game of the caster LB), Tanks wouldn't get dangerously low or die while trying to give the whole group a damage sponge, and healers wouldn't get killed while trying to bring the rest of the party back up... I know there's been more than one time I've needed to use the Rank 3 healer LB to pick everyone up, only to get killed because I got caught in the really long animation time and couldn't escape when I needed to.

I nearly lost hate on the ADS in Coil 2 last night in the rare occurrence of actually using the tank limit break because I spent like 15 seconds with my hands in the air instead of tanking anything. This is a mechanic that needs to be changed.

My issue isn't even really the Animation itself, Its the delay of using LB and then having to wait for the damage to be applied after I hit the ground to finish the animation. Adding a stun would get abused for sure.

This would be nice because I was in a Titan run and a DRG had used LB3 and he got killed before it went off so it was wasted and we lost.

The animation itself is fine. However, you should probably go invulnerable while executing said action. In PvE at least... I mean come on, its a super powerful limit break!

Likely won't happen. I mean, even when Dragoon uses a Jump skill and isn't (technically) in range or even on screen for an enemies attack, they still take damage (and SE said it isn't being changed).

on 2 occasions we wiped on turn 2 because melee wants to LB3 ADS and the LB doesn't connect either because melee died by a laser casting the LB or rot. in both cases we wiped after the animation is triggered. it's not so much that I want the difficulty of managing an LB to be reduced but I want it to be more clear (so maybe a longer cast but in any case the damage should apply immediately after cast) so people don't get mislead.

and yes, even if the melee dps knows how lb3 works it still messes you up when you are in that kind of stressful situation. it's not fun to wipe like that at all.

Has anyone actually timed all of the lvl 3 limit breaks. I swear meteor takes forever. But since its the only one I have casted id say its the longest. long cast time (nope swift cast does not make it instacast) and then im stuck in a darn long animation so using it has to be tactical.

no i did read your post you just changed your post, 147 lvls of grinding and i like the rest of us have learned to compensate for LB and not decide to use Melee LB after the ENTIRE PARTY is dead. duuuuhh if you know you are going to be locked in place you know it takes soooo long to cast why not do it earlier. Hope they dnt have you LB in coil since it is sooo hard for you

The best part of meteor is using it to blind your party from incoming AEs.

Please Stop Trolling Me! You wasn't even there so you don't know what happened. What does me getting locked into place have to do with anything? I edited my post because people were thinking that I was referring to the actual animation itself, and not the delay between the Animation and when the damage is applied. Do you have the hots for me? Are you one of those boys that think cause you pick on a girl that they will like you?

But I will clarify this for you since you keep going on about it. When the PLD died I was the last person able to LB left alive and since he died it filled the rest of the bar to LB2, I used it "Thinking" it would have killed him but since there is a delay between the animation and the time damage is applied it did ZERO DMG because when I hit the ground (At which point the damage should have been applied) I got killed with EG. If LB2 was ready before the PLD died I would have popped it. But knowing LB1 wasn't enough I didn't use it and then when the PLD died it popped and I decided to try and save the day by using it, It was either die or LB2 and I still died.

Now I'll ask you a questions since idk anything about LBs (Sarcasm). Should I have used Limit Break before both bars were full? Unless LBs do the same amount of dmg before the gauge is filled then no because in my situation LB1 would not have done enough dmg to kill it, LB2 would have been enough to kill him.

And BTW it was my call to use the LB even though it didn't go as I had planned. If that makes me a bad DPS cause I chose to use LB at a bad time then so be it.

just make whoever is lb'ing become invincible during the lock. what's the point of locking them in place making them super vulnerable during an emergency situation? if everyone is dead and the boss can 2 or 3 shot you in the span of the cast time, what's the point of having a panic button that doesn't work? is the point of the lb just to be used in a moderate or successful situation where no one is in the throes of danger? (it's called a limit break for a reason, think about it). I agree with this post SE, please do something.
