This game needs to be harder in a lot of aspects. Maybe not the longer time-consuming grind that XI was, but they really need to ramp up the difficulty. There is absolutely no sense of challenge or accomplishment for doing anything
I hope it doesn't become a successful FF MMO either, nor do I hope SE doesn't realize what XI did right XIV did horribly wrong :D
While you may hate XI, XIV only exists because of it.
Games that offer zero challenge don't have any replay value at all. This is a FF game, and as such, it should require quite a bit of effort to master. I'll refrain from saying the proverbial, "go back to wow/warhammer/rift/etc" if you want a cakewalk, but this game is laughably easy in its current state.
I honestly hope it does, but from the looks of it I don't think it will, so calm down.
XIV definitely needs more challenging content. All this with other balancing of course. As is though it's a little too easy. Soloing rank 30 leves at rank 19 or so isn't my idea of a balanced game. ~.~
what?! FFXI was awsome! i played for 6+yrs. i have played a lot of MMO's, WoW, lineage, WAR, guild wars, Aion, Rift, Age of Conan, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings(only active ones right now are WoW, and Conan and FF14 since its f2p)......and i have to admit my favorite overall of them is FFXI. I quit WoW like 10 times (no being sarcastic), and always went back to FFXI. The only reason i am not playing FFXI anymore is because i didn't like the new level cap to 99. I didnt feel like lvln a job to 99 then a bunch of sub jobs to 50. other than that, ffxi is my favorite mmo
I was attracked to FFXIV because it had options to solo and behest his party oriented but not like FFXI.
FFXI....FFXI.....god I hate that game......!!!!

^ Now this was a challenge if you didn't cheap out.
If all you want to do is solo, there are plenty of easy off-line rpgs out there for you.
Looks like he's just lookin for a rise outta people.
this = truth
A vast majority of voters were more than willing to let the essential mechanics of the game be scrapped and rebuilt. Your argument is invalid. Xiv has a lot of neat elements, but they are not enough to be a successful MMO. Hence why no one is paying for it.
I really can't understand why you people wants this game to look like FFXI!!! FINAL FANTASY XI IS PURE CRAP!!! aaargh!!
I really hope that Final Fantasy XIV doesn't because like Final Fantasy XI!!!!
XI is a niche game, which will lead to the ostracizing of other gamers that don't fit that cookie cutter.

Now this was a fun fight. XIV needs more like it, against FF staples.
Also, if the game isn't WoW or a clone of WoW, i.e Rift, it's pretty niche because it's being marketed and played by their own specific demographics. Just like Farmville is freaking huge, but not everyone cares for it that actually like online gaming yet you can still consider it a niche game as the type it is, is a pretty niche genre.
they said in letter there still be solo play so cant understand why for the life of me your getting upset it was plan as day in letter they just adding more challenge for those who want it, its your choice.
If you think DM was a challenge you must of been really bad lol.
While I don't want XIV to be much like XI I think they should bring over some stuff, but challenges ? Meh idk, what a person views as challenging is as fluctuating as an opinion. Take the above for example, i did not find DM a challenge (nore did i BLM nuke it since that was patched). The only things I found challenging were the 2 notoriously known bosses (AV/PW) but they were quite stupidly challenging lol. And one I still have not killed. But everything else, not at all. Most of the best stuff was rewarded for time sinkage.
Well from the notes released today it is obvious that they want to cater to both "hardcore" party content players, and "cake" solo content players. So everyone can calm down. Some days I want to do something epic, others I want to be casual and have just as fun of an expierience. If thats not good enough then don't play.
I agree, since constantly dying must be the only definition of "challenge" lol.
You do know outside of burn setups and supertanking DM was indeed one of the more challenging BCNMs in that game, right? Though I'm sure you probably also would say Kirin wasn't a challenge when it was in it's prime either. Nothing is a challenge as time goes on. That's logical.
I think the original vision at the beginning wanted something different to XI that would draw more players, in a french interview Tanaka said that. Though transforming this into XI goes against that. Though since Yoshi is now in control perhaps his also changed the direction.

Just so you know, Mana Burn DM is only "easy mode" and not the true way to fight it. I personally refused to do DM like it.
Divine Might has always been one of the most challenging fight in the game, it's challenging that it was actually an OPTIONAL Boss fight for the zilart story, with special reward from it.
Divine Might was like old school challenge fight, and I did it the old school way. It took quite a few attempts to finally win it, but damn, the fight, itself, was so much fun that I'd love to do it again just for the sake of the fight.
Easy Now? Probably. Back in the day before all the new stuff? Oh God, it's definitely not easy, and you needed 18 people that are GOOD to do it right and win it.
Thing with XI though, I reached cap quicker in that game these days than I can in even WoW. So I don't see how turning it into XI would go against it since all XI did right was pretty much everything down to the basics. What XI did wrong was make A LOT of time dominant systems and poor drop rates.
Beyond that, XIV can't even get the linkshell system correct and XI's I can make in flash in 3 minutes.
No, of course you have a right to your opinion. But you have presented it in an inflammatory manner. The question of how difficult or time consuming the content being added to FFXIV should be is a valid one. But you presented it in the form of a threat to quit the game. Also, you used 8 exclamation marks for four sentences.
Personally I don't see why they can't have varied content, some of which requires more time and effort, and some that is easier and quicker to do. Which is what they seem to be doing.
ummm ffxi wasn't all that hard.... or really all that time consuming tward end game it was time consuming, but was more on the side of the players not the game. I was a casual ffxi playuer for a year (timebase) and was a casualy hardcore ( i played lightly but for 12 hours)
What lol like talking to a brick wall. I'm just saying DM was not challenging, sure maybe first time as you're completely clueless but after that first run I never died or failed after. And my friends would usually do the same strategy, the only time it got "tough" was when randomers came who have not done it and messed up or a tank DC's, but thats not challenging just dumb luck lol.
Promy was kind of challenging due to limitations.
The thing with XI only about 5% of endgame involved bottable mobs (Faf/Nid, Ada/Aspi, Behe/KB, DI and SW to an extent) outside those almost none of the other mobs where botted. And all the gear from them could be gotten in other events. Inflation ended in the summer of 2006.
Yea bots where bad but they no where near stopped non-botters from doing endgame... anyone who disagrees has not played FFXI since 2006.
Recently SE nuked about 3/5ths their playerbase in XI with Abysea changing the game, costing them millions of dollars of revenues a month. I would question if that was the right thing to do, once that was added thier subcount went from around 500k to about 200-230k and forced them to do 2 server merges in a year... I would not call that a good thing.
