Overstocked inventory

Hi,

My inventory is starting to be really be overstocked of Gathering and crafting materials from questing and leveling 1 to 25 and I was wondering if I should just sell all of it. I have no intention of starting crafting in the near future.

Should I just give em to my retainer of sell on market?

If you don't plan crafting sell with your retainers :)

That will give you a bit more of income.

That's what I would do, if I were you. Have your Retainer(s) sell them. Put them in reasonable bunches (maybe groups of 10 or 25) and offer them at reasonable prices. You'll clear your backlog and make a few gil at the same time.

Keep a few in case you want to have a crafter make something for you -- crafters always like it if you can supply mats for the items you want.

All of this is assuming you have no intention of crafting whatsoever.

I'm really lazy about the whole thing. I drop everything I'm not currently using (I do craft, but only in fits, so I'll go a few days without using anything at all) on my retainers. Whenever their selling lists get down to 10 or so, I'll go through their inventories and sell anything that gets a decent price and relist anything that's been undercut. That happens maybe three times a week.

Theoretically, someday, I'm going to take everything that only goes for 1-2 gil on the markets to a vendor just to get rid of it, but that hasn't actually happened yet. So many animal skins.

You would be surprised how much your stuff that sells 1-2 gils to vendors can sometimes be sold to players.

Is it in the 2.1 patch that we will see market transaction history of an item directly when we wanna sell it via retainer? Having to check the market boards before selling just to see the market price is a waste of time

you can already see market history when selling.

You can do that now. When you select an item to sell at your retainer, there's a little icon in the upper right. Looks like a page of paper. Click that to get the current listings/history.

So there is no way to store inventory yet? i guess the chest in the inn Room wont store inventory items. Also i was unsure hot to stack items, i see some of the same thing in say a count of 2 and a count of 11, how can i combine them? thanks, and is there any way to organize our inventory automatically? llike a button to push that will put all of the materials on one page and food on another etc?

If two items are alike but don't stack, it may be because one is HQ and the other not

Also, SE is planning to add a sort button for the inventory or something like that in a future patch or maybe 2.1

Your retainers have a whole lot of storage space.

To combine stacks, drag one onto the other one. If they're on separate inventory pages, pick one up, switch to the page with the other inventory stack (click the # for keyboard/mouse, R1/L1 for controller), and drop it from there.

There's no auto-sort yet. Supposedly coming in 2.1.

The chest is for special armors like AF and special event items like the bathing suits.

Something I recommend is to take a look at what recipe the item is used in, and try to sell it in increments of how much is needed. For example, mythril ore is used to make mythril ingots. It takes 3 ore to make one ingot, so sell them in quantities of 3, 6, 9, 12, etc. Of course there's other examples like copper ore, which needs 3 for a copper ingot and 2 for a bronze ingot. In this case, you'd either want to sell in increments of 6, or sell in quantities of both 3 and 2.

There have been plenty of times where I've paid a higher price, just because I didn't want to deal with having a bunch of leftover junk. Which brings me to another point: Some folks look to buy in bulk since they want to mass produce something, and others want just a few for a synth or two. This is where it helps to know the item you're selling. If it's used to make something in high demand or a LOT of items (the core ingredients of ores, logs, textiles, and skins qualify here), chances are most customers are looking to buy in bulk. If not, then chances are you're selling to a niche crowd looking to make as few as one for their own personal use, so sell in small increments.

I have made several retainers - my first two were named Battlebox and Tradestuff
battlebox holds all my gear for classes not currently lving or gear im not using yet but will
Tradestuff holds all my crafting materials

its getting to the point where im going to make more that further organizes what I need- like a retainer just for HQ items? lol
I'd really like them to implement the ability to craft by directly using items in your retainer without pulling them out ( like EQ2 had in guild halls haha )

Sugarpeanut: I thought 2 retainers was max? Or do you mean you have alt characters you're using too?

I use my husband's account - an alt char so I can easily xfer back and forth ( im on ps3 and hes on PC ) haha

Every time i have asked a Retainer Arranger they have laughed at me and said i was too weak. Maybe that is because i havent asked in my "home" city Urdah yet, maybe i will be able to get one there.... since i am up to level 32 now. I hope so, gonna run out of room in my inventoyr soon...esp since i started gatheirng as a miner. Great thread lots of good info here.

You get your first retainer during the main story questline. It is not only your level :)

No, it is bugged. Sometime the items get split for some reason and they do not automatically regroup together. The solution is to give all of them to the retainer and then take them back.

Regarding the inventory sorting once it will be available it will be always too late. I still can't believe I couldn't find it. Any news about when patch 2.1 is coming out?

BTW what's the use for the wet bombard ashes apart from buying the bikini (well, and the absolutely fun fireworks. I feel so stupid running around after lighting them! ^_^)?

The retainer helps a lot.

I leveled all of my DoH and DoL at the same time as my main class, and ran into both inventory and armory issues. I give my retainer items that may be useful for crafting but I don't use often. Keeping my DoH very close to eachother in level makes it easier to manage gear since they use almost the same set, and I convert or vendor old gear.

It's unlocked in the main story quest Scions of the Seventh Dawn. That comes right after a series of three dungeons (Sastasha, Tam Tara, and Copperbell Mines). You're more than high enough level for it. (I think it's about level 17 or so, though I was 20 when I got there.) If you don't have it yet, it looks like you got sidetracked from the main storyline quests and will need to get back to those to start unlocking features.

Ya just got the Walking Sands Mission last night and I am now authorized to have my own retainers. I will be nice to them, I see we can pick from various types. any idea which are which re the cities they come from? i saw a short one, a tall pale one and a more normal one who i think is from Gridania. I dont know the race names for Final Fantasy yet.

Retainer race/gender/appearance/height/body size have no effect on what they do - they're basically just an extra item cupboard for you/shop front on the Market Board, so go with whatever you like the most. :)

Also, it wouldn't matter which city they come from as all three cities's ones do the same thing.

OK but i do plan to be nice to mine and treat them kindly if there is any way to do so. Looking forward to meeting them and adding them to my team. :) thanks for the replies and for this great thread. I was not sure if we get a preview of the Retainer's picture before we select them..hence my question about the different types, i will do a search to see if there is info on them on the WWW.

You get to define your retainer's appearance yourself using the character creation interface. All the same appearance options you'd have creating a new character.

Ah well that will be fun thanks so much for that. :)
