I have a couple of friends I know in real life who played 1.0 long enough to be legacy members. These two particular friends both managed to get banned shortly after the release of ARR. I post this simply looking for solutions as they have been offered none by support. Either they aren't looking for help in the correct way or Square Enix simply is not cooperating.
This first scenario seems the most unfair as the Square Enix support has litterally told them there is no way to unban his account. The story: My friend was playing FFXIV while being employed in the military. When his service was up and he returned home to help his father take care of his siblings he no longer had a steady source of income. His father payed for all his expenses while he was helping the family. This included the transfer of payment for FFXIV. When his father saw the charge on his bank account he wasn't aware what it was for and he denied payment by calling his bank. Square Enix promptly banned the account under fraud and has told him there is no way for him to get his account back. This was his account: http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...cicuid=8859490
I would love to know if anyone has had a similar experience and has solved it or has any advice. I understand there was a lack of communication between the father and son, but it seems unfair for there not to be a solution.
The second scenario is a little more controversial and for the most part I'm just looking for if anyone has heard any news on this. This other friend had his account stolen by a gil seller and used to shout in cities as an advertiser. The account was banned within the day. It has now been stuck in under investigation for over two weeks. Everytime my friend tries to contact them they just say there's nothing support can do and the investigation team is looking into all similar problems. It seems like he'll most likely get his account back. But we've been wondering for how long. Has anyone else in similar situations gotten their account back? I know this has happened to a lot of people is Square Enix doing anything about it?

In the first case, your friend would likely never get his account back. It say there in bold in the user agreement that the user must agree not to retract payment as a fraudulent charge. I'm sure you know there are reasons for including this statement.

First case sounds like an issue the father would have to fix. The second sounds like your friend is stuck in the backlogs and will have to wait it out.

It's not that they can't unban wrongfully banned accounts (in the case that something was a simple mistake, such as the fraudulent charge mix up), it's that they just don't want to.

Nothing you can do about the first scenario, most companies have a zero tolerance for that. It's completely reasonable as well.

Rokien eh? I remember overhearing a few shout conversations involving him back when I was still in the Central shroud part of the main scenario.
Can't say I'd be optimistic about the first case, but as for the second, it's just a matter of however long it takes for the investigation team to get to his particular case. It's difficult to determine an average wait time, though some have stated they waited 1-2 weeks, but there's any number of unknown variables from our end. -

First if the father went and reversed the charges back as far as he could then that actually cost SE money as services rendered (account being active) wasn't paid for and they got charged a fee by the bank. Highly unlikely you will be able to get that account back unless the bank fixes all those fee's and SE is willing to accept it as a 'bank error'.
Second. Your friend most likely will get the account back that was compromised just it will take forever and a day. Immediately put a token onto that account. There is the free software one or pay for the hardware one.
Hate to tell you this but I don't consider the bans unfair at all. Unfortunate? Oh yes. -

Item 1: You might as well kiss this one goodbye. I work in payments processing and the second that his father issued the chargeback the processor for Square fined them for receiving a dispute. Even if they win it, they have to eat that fee. The card brands can also fine you on top of that if you have excessive disputes. The company can't allow any tolerance of that kind of issue.
Item 2: I had a friend with the same issue, took about 20 days before he got his account back but he did get it back. -

Are these support people actually doing anything other than reading out of a book that says yes or no? Can he really take any of this information to be true until he is told by someone from the square enix team? They've really left him in the dark. He was an epic troller in the beta forums and still continues it on these forums until he apparently got banned. lol
In the first case, no, there is nothing that will ever be done. Your friend should just get a new copy and register a new account if he wants to play. He can blame his father. Companies don't continue business with people who claim their charges are fraud, regardless of whether or not it was an accident. With very good reason. Just imagine how many "accidents" there would be if there wasn't a zero tolerance policy. -

For the charge back thing I would like to point out that there was another MMO that locked accounts because of the bank(BoA) it's self doing the charge backs(without the user approving of it) and these players got it resolve.

The reason why companies have a no tolerance for fraudulent charge, is everytime back charges are put on a CC it effect Rates.
Most CC companies if there are to many back charges on CC will increase the rate at which they charge. So from 1.8% per transaction to say 2% to 4-5%
Well that adds up very very quickly.
It's to bad your friends dad knowing he was paying for his sons things didn't 1st ask his son, Do you know anything about this?
Or do what my hubby was doing before we were married and he was in the same boat. He used his CC for everything, and his mother was paying it off.
As for the other issue, Ya just time, and hope they make the correct call. -

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done for your friend in situation one. He'll never get his account back unless he finds some clause/law in the state/country he lives in which would make it illegal for SE to not return his account. (given that I've heard other companies do the same thing - ban accounts for denied charges - there probably is no recourse)
Your second friend... will just have to wait up to 6months for them to finish the investigation. -

You would probably need to speak to the bank in question. When the refusal from the bank came back to SE, they likely believed the account to be stolen, and banned it to prevent personal info from being taken and used elsewhere.
It's actually done to protect the account holder.
I think what you may need to do is prove that, firstly, your friend owns the account, and that secondly, the refusal/fraudulent charge notice was a mistake.
If you can have the bank provide a notice for you to give to SE to 'prove' it was a misunderstanding, as well as the proof of account ownership, you would likely have better luck in reclaiming the account. -

Excuse me, but I don't see in any of those 2 unfair bannings.
1) Someone had this game on his fathers CC without telling his father so. His father got confused with a expanse he didn't know nor approved of and called the bank.
2) Someone hackled the account and used it for RMT. RMT is a banable offense. But They do their best to give it back after the hack if possible.
ad1) If you gonna use someone elses CC, at least tell him
ad2) don't follow weird links, don't share your password, don't give "SE Employees" sending you weird tells in Game your password and user details (they will never ask for it), get a Security token. -

If his father was looking for Square Enix or FFXIV, and saw something else charging, i don't blame him if he got startled and blocked it before speaking to his son.Quote:

Sorry to hear it, but as for the first one they will never get their account back :/
Similar thing happened to my wife when SE decided to double bill for XI 3 months in a row and put a stop payment on the 2nd charge the 3rd time (they refused to refund their double charge) even though the regular monthly payment still went through. She permanently lost her character. How messed up is that. -

Yeah good luck. The first seems harder since that is stated already. No refunds or anything. Maybe if he would over to pay a penalty for the "fraud" they could allow it, but thats just a maybe.
On the second scenario, well.... thats just sit and wait. If your friend didnt do anything illegal, then SE will find out and will return the account eventually.
