If You Can't Say Something Nice

Getting a little tired of all the D-Bags you find at end-game. Being horrible to one person or even the whole party. Being obnoxious and blaming everyone. And just generally being unhelpful and irritating.

If you know what you are doing offer your guidance. If you don't have the patience and don't think the party is going somewhere leave, don't just flame people. Everyone has to learn at some point.

I took 4 new end-gamers through Garuda yesterday and we got it in 4 tries cos everyone helped out and was nice/patient with eachother.

It's how I was brought up, but the bad attitudes and general life experience has left me cynical and bitter. I now tend to say nothing at all (okay, mostly because I'm a bit shy), but I've stooped to trolling every now and then.

Fair post. But not all new players are innocent. Some try your patience. Intentionally, it seems. Kill em with kindness, I suppose.

EDIT: I've stopped saying/yelling/begging for DPS Limit Breaks in dungeons because no one seems to care.

Yesterday 3 people of my LS did Aurum Vale for first time with a random tank via DF.

Tank explained patiently the boss mechanics for all 3 bosses and we made them all without a wipe.

No, you made an uncessarely rude and dumb comment and now are trying to pretendo that was just "teasing" and turnning it against the person that received the rude and dumb comment. You should have followed the OP's advice, if you can't have any nice to say (and here I will add "smart" too), better not say anything at all.

Now on topic. Make this a better community is everybody's job. If you see people misbehaving, punish them for that. Let them know that kind of behavior are not welcome.

The problem is that everybody seems to prefer to join the aggressor than improve the situation. All this stuff of "i used to be nice, but people keep trolling so I troll too now" only show how weak most players are.

You know how there's a feeling that Jp groups generally do better? Well it's because when someone stuffs up in a Jp group (through inexperience, nerves, or whatever) they'll either:
A) Have another go
B) Stop, explain what to do and then have another go

I was in a Jp Garuda HM party the other day with two pretty rubbish DDs, and we wiped a couple of times. Third time it was all explained properly, without name-calling or singling anyone out ("This is what *you* need to do so *you* don't screw it up for *everyone*" isn't helpful) - we wiped. Fourth time went perfectly, the BLM got their weapon and now there's two more players who know what they're doing when they do DF Garuda. US/EU groups could be this good if only we spent more time encouraging and explaining instead of whining and gear checking.

Internet is a cesspool. People will behave badly because they know it angers you.

I know more than a handful of players that purposely wipe groups and point the blame on someone else, just because they enjoy watching how that person will react. It's how they "get off", so just ignore it and don't give them reason to keep pushing you.

Sometimes I wonder how valid this is. I mean, I know people in DF can be real tools, but I've said things along the lines of, "You need to stand out of this or we will die" and get either silence or a negative response back. I bet someone thought that was "being obnoxious and blaming everyone," even if it was the truth. I almost always state things as a matter of fact, I don't attempt to belittle players who screwed up a couple times.

The forum is littered with "My tank/healer left after one or two wipes/before the start of the dungeon because someone was new! MAKE IT SO THEY CAN NEVER USE THE DUNGEON AGAIN!" threads. There is apparently a large population that doesn't agree with your conclusion (though I do). Also, see previous comment.

If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all.

Definitely. I agree with your assessment on this front, but I think Duty Finder has a bunch of different problem children. This is just one subgroup of that.

The problem is bad enough that Square Enix have moved to implement the MVP system.

I think that fact alone is enough to warrant a "Like!" for the original post. And let's extend that to the forum, too.

Not casual enough that I enjoy dying to easily avoidable nonsense.

Not Hardcore enough that I treat the game like a second job.

I carried a Bard with jewellery no higher than level 18 through AK, it was a nightmare. At the end my party and I kindly recommended some inexpensive methods of getting some upgrades as he would eventually run into a foul-mouthed elitist at some point that may offend him.

What was our politeness met with? Rabid-fueled rage.

@OP Not every person is out to offend another, some people may in fact be waiting for a chance to snap back over petty things. It's a two way street and sadly it's just one of those things we have to get used to. I'm not going to stop offering advice to people, maybe one day I'll meet someone who accepts it for what it is and doesn't take it as a personal attack.

problem is i know the fight inside and out and 9/10 i get hit cos of lag.. i can be out of the aoe by a mile and get hit.. unfortunately lag exists because of the servers being overstressed.. but unfortunately also that gives everyone a scapegoat.. if i die not to lag (which isnt often, if at all) i hold me hand up and say i was a stupid shit lol

I've been fortunate in only having met one douchebag player thusfar.

I split my time about half and half between FATE grinds and the DF, but I'm the LS's unofficial "scout" for content. I play ahead of the others to learn boss fights/quest details/key locations and then go back through with them. This means that most of my first time clears are with randoms. 1/1 on every dungeon and boss fight in the normal game thusfar.

Couple nights ago a BRD friend and I were doing Darkhold runs. Partly for EXP and partly to help first timers get their story clears. He was a PLD, he was terrible, and he berated the poor BLM until he quit as well as railing on my BRD buddy for using flaming arrow. What caused the row? BRD liked using Flaming Arrow, so the BLM agreed not to waste MP on sleeps. Darkhold is not a hard place to tank and we were only there to have fun and clear the place for the new guy, but the PLD started flipping out (lvl 50 PLD AF body with a bunch of 24-32 gear mind you). Its like.... if you're not here to help newbies and you don't need EXP, why is a level 50 doing Darkhold runs? I told him if he was going to be an ass, then leave. "lol its good to be the tank!" and started pulling huge groups of mobs, getting us all killed.

I just don't understand these people. Though I think I get why so many of them are tanks. They want to be a "needed" job so people won't just throw them out or ignore them because of their awful attitude, but they're too high and mighty to be a back row job like a healer.

I'm going to give you a bit of advice here because I think it might help you win.

Right now, the server only updates every 300ms by default. This is pretty fast in human terms, but very slow in internet terms. It's like adding an extra 300ms to your ping for absolutely no reason.

HOWEVER... using an ability will FORCE your position to update before the 300ms mark. Therefor, it is best for you to start casting something the SECOND you get out of an AoE. I notice you are an arcanist... so Ruin 2 is a nicer instant 'filler' to cast while you are running out of something because you don't have to wait to stop. Note: you don't have to finish casting... just start.

Also, if you are waiting until you SEE Weights (or the cast bar) to move, it will likely be too long. You may still get hit half the time. Therefor, it is imperative that you memorize the ability rotation and move when you KNOW weights are coming. When you get really good at this, you can count down from the moment the last ability was used (in phase 5, either stomps or the MB after bombs/landslide) and move right when you know it will drop.

Is it fair that you have to preemptively know when stuff is spawning so that you can get out of it in time? No. But there are positioning issues in this game that have yet to be addressed... and this is the only work-around I have found. Good luck. :)

It doesn't cost anything to try and be nice, there's always a good way to say things...

However...

When I need to replace someone in a group because they really are THAT bad (after many attempts to try to help them improve), I try to do it in a nice way.

For example, if you don't want to upset someone... don't place blame on the player directly, but don't kick them without a word either. Say, "I don't know why you're not avoiding things... maybe your internet is being laggy tonight, but we need to get people who can avoid so we are going to replace you." Nothing personal. Nothing insulting. If the player really is THAT bad, there is no reason why you have to invite them again. There's no reason to be rude.

However, if a person is teachable and open to advice... teach them! If you say stuff in a polite way, they shouldn't get offended. If they are the type of player who doesn't play well but is also opposed to any and all advice ("DON'T TELL ME HOW TO PLAY MY JOB"), there is no hope for them in your group. Refer to the paragraph above.

OP, this requires players to listen. Majority of players who are bad do not listen, these players get you more and more infuriated.

There's only so much patience you can have when one person just is not getting it and the fight hangs on that one person playing properly.

Did a Garuda HM last night and the OT wiped the healers to his add every single time. His gear was AF/low quality AH stuff so he couldn't hold hate on the boss, or knew the movement pattern. After 6 tries of wiping to the add the first time, I left.

Next group I joined, he's back in it and I tell the group up front, "This guy hasn't watched any videos, doesn't understand the fight, and wiped us to the adds the first time every time. I'm sorry, but I'm leaving" and left.

Call me a d.bag, that's fine, but most noobly people like that (white ah weapons, etc) will offload everything on other people.

Know what? The first HM kills a month ago were done by tanks with 45, 4800 hp, healers with 3k, etc etc, but the difference was, that was the best they could have, while grinding away at hard modes, not whatever cheap crap that their job could wear that they found on the AH.

Paladin is my main. My white mage accidentally has 3300 hp. I have no pity for someone trying to do a hard mode with 2900 hp. Make some friends, grind some dungeons, earn it.

Was that with BLM(s)? I spent probably 20 hours trying to take Duty Finder groups through that dungeon even with a few groups that had a BLM before I finally switched to BLM myself and waited hours in queues until finally getting another group with a decent BLM. In all honesty though, the run that I finally won on was with all first timers, excluding myself of course.

I do the same, there is NO excuse for a level 50 to be wearing ilevel 30 jewelry, you can even buy vender jewelry before doing your final main quest chain at the last camp -_-
