Fix The Camera please

Currently the way the camera works is that it auto zooms in when your close to a wall and doesn't return to its previous zoomed out setting, This is extremely annoying.
It hinders lots of fights where you need to see the surrounding area to dodge things.
Please make it so that my camera returns to its initial zoomed out stand when I move away from the walls instead of staying zoomed in.

I second this. The camera can be quite annoying.

I had a near wipe as a tank on a fricken trash pull because of this. Camera zoomed into near first person and I lost sight of everything... was not cool.

I have gotten tot he point where I am constantly zooming out my camera.

I've noticed this issue when using the Legacy movement settings. You can zoom out all of the way but if you go against a wall or something your camera position doesn't go back to where it was. You can actually set this as an option with the standard movement settings to keep your camera in a fixed position, but the option is totally greyed out for the Legacy movement. I would like to have this option available for Legacy movement as well, as it sucks having to zoom your camera out every time.

It has an auto-adjust only for that annoying alternative where walking backwards is too slow, it's ridiculous. I hope they fix this soon.

The alternative camera setting to legacy is even worse, but the zoom is a giant pain in the ass that really needs to be fixed. If you play a ranged DPS it's not so bad, but when you are a tank or a melee dps, it makes a giant difference when you have to swing your camera around all the time in an enclosed area to position the boss and check for ads.

Please SE. It's a simple fix. Please please please please fix it!

Final boss in AK is so fun to tank because of this... the hardest part about tanking that boss is beating the camera.

I also want this fixed.

When I get pushed by the Demon's wall all the way back to the wall, the camera seems to go inside my character facing down. All I see on the screen is the purple thing on the ground. I don't even know which way to run.

The same thing happens sometimes when I'm running against the wall trying to avoid aggro. The camera goes inside my character facing down. All I see is the ground and I don't know which way to run until I adjust the camera.

This never happened in FFXI.

Same here. Not a huge problem but sure is annoying.

I've had some success dealing with this by pressing right stick for first person, then again to zoom it back out. Seems to make it rotate off the obstruction.

I have this problem: If the camera has a total zoom distance of 100 and I zoom to 70, I expect that dn camera to stay at 70. As I stated previously, if an object or terrain exists at 70, then the camera should and does move to the next available distance, say 65... This is normal and expected. The bug is that the camera never reverts to 70 once the object is no longer impeding my desired location of 70.

If I set it to 70, I want it at 70 unless there is an object in the way. To make matters worse, in order for me to get the camera back to 70, I have to move the character 70 from the camera itself since the camera thinks it's at 70.

Now of course I have no idea what 70 is, maybe it would be good to say 70% of the total zoom distance.

Is that the same issue?

I also had this a setting issue... this really helped with the camera. Did not fix the above, but now I can tank!

Now the camera setting that was giving me trouble is this:

In character configuration, there is a target tab. On that tab, there is target settings.

There are three available choice: make sure "ruin my day" is not checked!

No, three check boxes. I had "auto lock on target when initiating auto-attack" checked. This was the source of my pain.

That's correct. The current legacy camera was transplanted from the FFXI camera program and it functions the same. * We transplanted this feature because of tester feedback from Beta Test phase 3.

The setting that will automatically return the camera, which will be implemented in patch 2.1, will be added as an option for the original camera feature. We'll be providing this in a way that will meet the requests of all of the testers who were asking for the same camera settings as FFXI.

The reason why this was not a concern for XI is due to the fact that from a battle design perspective, there wasn't as much of a necessity to zoom out with the camera, the areas where characters could move were wider on average, and characters did not move as fast as they do in XIV.

As the battle pace and game design for both XI and XIV are different, we adjusted the camera rotation controls to be fast for XIV, but we are reflecting back on the fact that the adjustments we made were a bit lacking.

■Transparency masking process
If we implemented a system to mask objects that are obstructing the view, all of these problems would be solved, however, this would require processes to determine what is obstructing and also increase the groups of transparent data models as well.

To avoid burdens from numerous processes and in order to prevent quickly consuming memory with large amounts of data from the field it would be difficult to increase applying transparent masking on specific individual objects. Due to this reason, we don't have a practical solution that we could currently propose as a candidate, so we don't have any plans to implement that change.

So it isn't even possible to add that transparency mask for higher-end computers?

Seeing DirectX 11 version will be designed for a newer generation of hardware than the game currently targets, is it possible to add this together with the DX11 version of the client?

Could you please clarify Square Enix's policy regarding this: should all hardware, regardless of its power, be capable of only exactly the same material functions, with only differences in graphics rendering quality allowed? Or will higher end computers be able to run more and also more computation-intensive functions in future?

Yes this is the main issue I have with this game. The targeting is also horrible.

It's only as terrible as you let it be since you can configure it under keybinds

The option to zoom out further would be nice. I tried the 3rd person slider to give me more view, but it's still not what I was hoping for.

I wish it doesn't auto zoom in.

This is only on the ps3 right? My friend on the ps3 has it happen every time his camera gets zoomed in from a wall, but it hasn't happened once for me on PC

then stop making tiny ass maps w/ bosses on them where we get totally disorientated trying to zoom-out/in ? i swear trying to fight ADS in coil 1 and ADS in coil 2 is only hard because of the minuscule area we got to work in and the crappy camera angles that completely blind us. Infact i remember Yoshi mentioning to players that they need to zoom out more when fighting titan... we'll make so we can zoom out more because im always at max and its not enough sometimes.

Why does XIV have so many issues that other MMOs seemingly don't? Every time something new comes as a possibility, we can't do it because of server stress, client stress, etc. Yet, other modern MMOs do it without a worry and run fine.

Totally agree, been saying this since launch but everyone seemed to just ignore me or flat out say I was wrong, or that if they did things the way other MMO's did it, it'd be a "WoW clone". You'll probably get flamed for your comment, but just know there are people who agree.

I agree it really is a huge problem. Most of the time when tanking I have to keep zooming out nonstop. Only reason I avoid some instances completely because the camera doesn't work properly in them. Dzemael Darkhold comes into mind being one of the worst.

I would really like to to know this as well. But I think we all pretty much have a good idea of the main problem: the PS3 version.

The horrible looking dithered transparencies already in place screams memory limitations. The corners they are having to cut to support this version are starting to become very apparent.

I think we should have an option to Pin the camera in place and it will turn as needed. Reminescent of PS1 era Square Titles and other RPGs

It wouldn't have to be everywhere. But coding the camera to pin to aetherytes, certain landmarks when in proximity, or for certain battlefields like primal fights.

It would be a camera effect happening not so rarely but so commonly. And it would give that cinematic feeling that the PS1 titles had. The standard MMO camera type trailing the character doesn't really show off the beauty of the world and is quite frustrating in some enclosed spaces.

It would also be quite nostalgic to get some camera pinning at unusual or high up angles reminiscent of how the camera was fixed in older RPGs

It returns to the original settings after you came off the wall.

and I don't want this auto-zoom to be removed. I use it to take many cool screenshots of my character but it's ok if it's gonna be an option to auto-zoom or not.

If they can't enable transparency, how about clipping? They already recognized how tight quarters it is, and having your camera bob in and out within seconds is going to be annoying, and you will be inclined to reposition each time. I just want to be zoomed out all the time. Clip the walls, I don't care if they are invisible.

OMG there is ~nothing~ wrong with the legacy camera. But the very poor animations for the "standard" camera is very disturbing. Players being able to emote and rotate their character at the same time is very unattractive.

Also the backpedaling and the overall look when i see players using the standard camera setting is just very very unpleasant.

I feel players should learn how to properly use the legacy camera as i have no issues at all whatsoever and completely do away with the "standard" camera feature.

The zooming in is what is completely wrong with the legacy camera since it does not revert back to the original camera zoom level once you're out of confined space. The dev even apologized for it making it to release in the state it is in.

You mean like the lock-on function?

As I understand it, "pinning the camera" is where you can set the camera at a certain angle and it won't move, regardless of how your character moves, as opposed to what we have now where it just slowly moves back down and center...

Funny thing though, in version 1.0 the camera was waaaaaay more user friendly and already addressed the issues listed in this thread. You could even "Pin" the camera to any angle you liked by right clicking the screen.
Why they imported FFXI's camera program to ARR instead of just reusing FFXIV 1.0's camera system is beyond my understanding. :rolleyes:
