Desperately Need Another Way to Level Alts

I love this game and the first go-through (leveling my BLM) was very fun. However, I'm finding FATE grinding and the occasional dungeon to be painstaking and extremely boring. Why is it we're pigeon-holed into FATEs for leveling alt classes? You have this very robust and really fun class system but you make it so boring and tedious to level anything but your first class :(. Here are a few suggestions:

1) Keep the XP boost you get for doing a dungeon for the first time but give an even larger XP boost for those running the dungeons again. This will encourage reuse of all this great content and will allow better queues for players who are new to your game.

2) Fix how healers are awarded in FATEs. Currently, if I do nothing but heal as a Conjurer or White Mage within a FATE, I will receive 0 credit and thus 0 XP. Please fix this.

3) Why not allow quests to be done once per class? If needed, you can limit the story quests to only once per character but why should all the other quests be limited to once?

4) Improve the XP gains from non-tradecraft Levequests. The XP currently being awarded for them means they are not worth doing as Battlecraft since it makes much more sense to use the Leve allowances for crafting (the XP gains there are excellent).


Also, please up the character limit for posts................

take 8 people and fight mobs 8-10 higher levels you'll get some nice exp

What they really should do is add another exp bonus.

Killing stuff at level 50 should store up some extra bonus exp for when you play low level classes.

That way it feels less like a waste killing stuff at 50, and it makes it a little faster to level alts.

I agree, grinding fates is not for me. I would love some separate quests I can complete on an alt. Leves I save for crafting, which leaves the hunting log as the only option.

More side quests would be nice. A lot more.

All i read on this threads is "the game is not easy enough as is, make it even more to cater to my inpatience and self entitlement" seriously... mak it easier... not more diverse just easier.... next thing you know coil and titan will be nerfed so due to threads like "make it easiear so i can get anything i want with no effort"

There needs to be repeatable quests that replenish everyday around 20 a day should be good.

LOL srsly you have to be joking.
Make it easier? All I read is that people wish leveling additional classes weren't so darn boring.

They will be implementing dailies, if I recall with 2.1...

You're ridiculous. We're not asking for it to be easier. We're asking for experience the game 1-50 additional times to not be so boring. Take the blinders off.

Not sure what fates you are doing but I typically get gold just from healing/buffing/ressing and nothing else. I even get gold from just healing on Svara and the 'Eye' fates. I never for gold on the 'Eye' fate before (playing DPS). First time getting gold was just from healing lol

Healing in fates is working as intended, IMO.

I just got my 2nd class/job to 50, working on all classes to 15 now and wow it is painful with nothing but hunt logs and fates..

You know what "another" good way to level alt is...? To not commit the mistake that +95% of players do and start leveling an alt together with your main. Do not wait to hit the level 50 wall before thinking on alts; that is the very worst mistake you can make if you are looking for longevity and variety. If you do it at the same time you level your main, not only you will make out more from battles in general (in terms of gaming experience), but you will also LEARN how to use your alts better than you would by FATE-grinding alone, and that is just one benefit from a plethora of them.

People are so busy thinking that SE has all the fault for getting bored when hitting 50 that they lack the little common sense needed to realize that the solution was always there, and the price is minimal: just take a little longer to get to 50. After all, what is the point to rush to level cap if you will anyway run out of things to do WHEN hitting the cap...? Sounds like you enjoy shooting yourselves in the knee to me.

...now, as for the Legacy players that already started at 50 and want to level alts... I admit I cannot think on a good solution for that issue.

Some complain it's too fast, others say it's not fast enough so i think the game is balanced, since people are crying for the two things it means the game is just right :P


Lately I think people cry/complain for no real reason at all :/

Dailies is for money, if I remember correctly. Not sure if they will be viable for exp.

I agree that there should be a lot more side quests. I don't even mind if they are the same ones that I did when leveling the first time. I'm not even close to 50 yet, but I can only imagine how boring the FATE grinding must be. Don't get me wrong, I really like the system and I participate in as many as I can while questing in an area. But to do only that for 50 levels sounds like a chore.

And dungeons (well I guess dungeons are past level 15 I suppose)... and leves... and guildhests and just simply farming mobs (which may be really boring but still viable since you can sell drops for Gil on the market)

More side quests or be allowed to redo the side quests we have already done. Add more leve quests.
Make it viable to level from killing world mobs by increasing the exp per mob and chain time limit so you can chain far more mobs than you can do now.
Make it viable to add user made quests by adding some kind of quest editor that enables someone to make up quests for other people to do, decide how much exp they get what rewards they get from a selection SE seem applicable for each level. They could choose what NPCs you need to talk to and the dialogue that is said etc.
You could pick up these quests from the Leve quest chap under a tab called user quests.

I'm not saying FATE grinding is slow - it's not. I'm arguing that the current options (and I put that 's' on the end hesitantly) for leveling another class are extremely, painfully boring.

Wholeheartedly agree, OP. Questing made the leveling work for the first job, but my second is BORING. Not slow, by any means -- FATE grinding is efficient, if nothing else. But efficiency without fun sort of defeats the purpose of a game. Most other games don't have this issue due to alts letting you repeat the quests... but since this game is about as alt-unfriendly as they come, and actively encourages sticking to one character... well, it should just do better.

Hmm, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one.

We were warned that the quests available would not be repeatable. We are also aware of the rate at which our leve allowances regenerate. For this reason, I've spread out the sidequests and main story quests between a few different classes. In between questing, I do my hunting log and any random fates that I come across. I've tried to avoid fate spamming for hours at a time so I don't burn out on it. I've saved leves for some of my more difficult to level crafting classes and I haven't even touched the Grand Company hunting log yet.

I'm trying to be smart about leveling given the fact that we were told how xp was going to be awarded.

Yeah, each class should have the full set of side quests, after all they still will not fully cover you for levelling, but sure would help a lot.

Lol... I'm actively playing 3 characters right now. A 'mage' character, a 'tank' character and a 'DPS' character. I just don't have the room one one character to keep everything I want to since I also level different crafting and gathering jobs on the characters as well. I have it split up pretty evenly so no one character gets too overloaded ;) Also, it's nice having 6 retainers to help hold stuff :)

^^ This is how I've been doing it as well.

They could reset the Guildhests for each Class so that we get the "1st-time Bonuses" for each class.

Plus they should let us do the Guildhests with our Chocobo Companions so we only need 2 people to do them.

Also open up the lvl 15-30 dungeons to Chocobo Companions.

Actually the first few can be done with only 2 people ;) I've successfully completed them with just a DPS (me) and a tank (and a *lot* of kiting) after 2 other members dropped before it even started.

I believe I remember them saying they are adding dailies. Is this still the case, does anyone know?

I believe they are adding them for 2.1 (or at least were planning on adding them for 2.1)
