On a more serious note, for the love of God please sort this out SE. I love your game however things like this really bother me, that includes the people who teleport between mobs to get to FATEs and instant tag everything.
i can deal with lag.
i can deal with the broken duty finder.
i can deal with dull boss mechanics.
but i won't accept the hackers and bots.
if this doesn't change dramatically after 2.1 - i'm out.
Working as intended... ha no but seriously they're working on it. XI had such a huge botting and gil selling fiasco because of how much more effort it took to obtain it. I'm sure every gil seller got a chubby knowing this game was coming out and twice as much when it was rereleased. Its a problem, they know, we know. Let's just do what we can and report and shun those who even consider buying gil.
XI's problem never went away but it did get better and better. Takes time and the sellers just hit the game twice has hard then others it seems.
Just went to mine and same bots still there from last week, amazing
It takes time, for every bot that gets banned like 2 more are popping up. The banned ones just make new accounts and restart the process. There are a ton of gil sellers in this game, probably more so than other games. It's a problem, as stated in other threads SE tends to ban in waves. Honestly this isn't an easy fix and probably not something that will be fixed in a month of time. I played XI from Rise of Zilart all the way to WoTG, then rejoined to try abby. The botting and gil selling problem never went away just as in any game, BUT it did get so much better. The game just started and hackers/bots/sellers are just using the money people spent on buying the gil to make more accounts when the old ones get cancelled. I promise you from previous experience in more than just FF games something is being done about it. It will take far more than a month, there is no quick fix.
Gil spam is still going strong from day 1, How hard is it to limit chat spam? it shouldn't take more than a month honestly. The speedhacking/botting should also be instantly caught, I too have played many mmo's and not one has allowed the user to changed speed client side and it affect server side. Bots are automated, how is it hard to see someone doing the same task for 30min the exact same way? Oh why is there no in-game GM's? I seen them 1.0 but not one has surfaced in ARR. We can't even have montiering gm's.
You're right, it will take months if SE isn't proactive about things. The whole community should be spamming these boards with this topic, people like you and others who brush it off "give it timers" Aren't helping the cause to better the game. Open your eyes, There is plenty of quick fixes if SE would just do it.
It's ruining the game... no one wants to gather or farm any more.
GG SE
Teleport hack is a honeypot. SE gonna track these guys back to the source and whack everyone at once!
I can dream can't i?
It is definitely ruining the game or the way it was meant to be played. I decided long ago I would never level up a gathering class cause I saw the bots, and knew they would do little to nothing about it. I just let the botters in the game out there gather for me while I will just buy the cheap prices they cause on the MB instead of take the time to gather myself.
The game really needs to do something about the Hack/Bots of this world soon. every couple months for a massive ban hammer just wont' cut it, if that is what happens anyway.
You just want what you want and you want it now huh? Look I know there are some things they can do to make it less obvious that there are gil sellers and botters out there but there are no quick fixes. So you open your eyes and understand that things take time. They have to worry more about the servers right now than the bots. They've got a ton on their plate and might not be able to implement the things you want when you want them. Don't act like you know how fast the work can be done unless you do the work yourself. No point in arguing but if your going to further it's out of our hands, even if we had multiple threads 100 pages long. They know it's a problem.
I reported Bots on Odin server 3 weeks ago when they was level 6 they are still there after reporting the very same bots 6 time's and now they are level 35.
God only knows how many shards they have farmed and sold.
SE do not seem to be doing anything about them not on Odin server anyway.
Makes you wonder if they have shares in the damn things.
making over 100 threads a day complaining about it has taken over this forum
New twist: botters are mass producing new characters and teleport-questing the newbie quests.
Proof: happening right now in Pandaemonium Ul'dah. I noticed them in the Gladiator guild and I've been standing here for 20 minutes, they just teleport in one by one, hand in the quest and teleport out. Endless stream of the same character model with randomized names.
Also I'm recording this right now, but I don't know how to encode this so dunno when or in what way I should make this video available. If you want a quick glimpse of this, come create a new character at Pandaemonium and visit the Ul'dah gladiator guild.
I will edit this post when I leave/when they stop.
EDIT: I have 30 minutes of footage, ending my watch now.
Here's the footage at 4x speed playback. http://youtu.be/WlbrjXehhWM
EDIT2: I just realized now...it was in the Pugilist guild. Not the Gladiator guild. orz
Can always upload it to Youtube.
This is totally going to kill this game. They went through the same thing with FF 11 and it almost destroyed that game. You'd think they would have learned from that lesson.
Hey there. :) This same exact thing was happening during the weekend on Lamia too. I reported about 6-7 character names in one support desk submission - but I realised while making it, they were not the same characters. They were all brand new. All lvl 1 gladiators, hyur males, and all identical in appearance. They materialised, turned to talk to the Josias NPC, then vanished again. :( I sat there watching for 15 mins.
Edit: Yes your youtube video is *exactly* what was happening on my server.
Hopefully SE will get their hands on these bots so they can reverse engineer them and apply fixes to the game code. It doesn't personally affect me but it's really disheartening to see the bots and hacks this rampant.
Botting has really killed MMOs for me, which is sad considering I've been playing nonstop for more than fifteen years now. My playstyle tends to revolve around money. I likehavingearning a huge bankroll and buying the most expensive stuff. Unfortunately, the scale of botting operations in recent games--such as GW2 and now FFXIV:ARR--just kills me. It destroys the markets and makes my gph downright negligible.
The bots wouldn't be here without demand, and there is most definitely demand. I know more people who have purchased gil than who haven't. A lot of it comes from the content rush and the ego that fuels it, but equally damaging is the more modern sense that currency and the economy isn't part of the game--it's merely an impediment to fun (i.e. combat/killing) activities.
I'd like to see the hammer come down on botters and gill-sellers more than anyone, but I don't expect any meaningful progress to be made. I can only hold out hope that future games like EQN will be cleaner, but with the current trend of allowing players to directly profit from gaming (RMAH, EQN structure building) I expect the botting to reach even more extreme levels.
It baffles me as to why they have let this go on for so long, they will jump on people exploiting fights quickly if you get to obtain really good gear to fast but teleporting bots? it's almost as if they are wanting this to happen.
I understand this is annoying and spoils the game. I have also seen RMT activity and spent a good deal of time reporting them. As others have said it does take time. The main reason SE do not jump on every individual case is because they watch their activities.
See who they trade with, see who they add to friend lists etc. So they can catch more at once. This effects RMT more because they lose a large amount of gil they have stored up, they then have to buy more new copies of the game to get back on their feet again. It also leads them to the people who buy the gil, which obviously removes customers.
If they just jumped on 1 bot at a time they wouldn't be able the gather as much info and have as much of a damaging effect to the RMT business.
What i have explained is quite obviously proved when you look at their posts on the lodestone.
They are on the ball, getting frustrated and throwing round accusations is only going to increase your own frustration and unhappiness with the game and spoil your own enjoyment.
The problem with these is while they are active they are doing the damage, the longer they let them lose the worse it becomes, economy is already destroyed and they have more or less succeeded, and since some of them have been going for weeks you can imagine how much they made already, it's pretty ineffective.
I wonder if these parasites know , the more they cheat and hack, the more ppl will get angry and leave the game BECAUSE OF THEM!
Who are they going to sell their stuff to once they drive everyone away?
It's the people who buy gil are to blame for this. If there was nobody to sell their gil to they wouldn't do this.
I wouldn't mind seeing some buyers getting banned along with the sellers. The reason people think so little of buying gil is because there are no real consequences. Even those few who bought tons (and others who earned tons) merely had 90% of their gil seized--they weren't banned or suspended (beyond the period of the "investigation"). Amusing side note: Gil was only removed from characters--not retainers--so if you're rich, hide it there.
This is NOT true. Conan had a max of 150-200 people playing, no one bought gill as funcom made it completely worthless (really, you didn't need it whatsoever) Guees what? We still had gold seller here and there. Mind you not at the level of FFXIV but they were still there. While i agree somewhat, I als have to disagree . These RMT insects will linger for a very long time. The most effective route is SE banning them with a sophisticated system. I'd be happy if they just remove the spam. I can deal with some botters more so than the constant flooding of chat.
In actuality, SE just need to get on the ball and handle the RMT infestation.
Actually they just need to stop being so damn lazy, DO what they did in ffxi and have some gms in red. this ban 60 (sarcasm) people across all servers is not cutting it.....
They have taken over the AH severely.
Wait a sec, you would like to see the ban hammer come down on botters and RMTs more than anyone? So I assume you report them when you see them, as do I. But then you say most of your in-game friends and acquaintances buy gil. They of course are the real scum bags who make the whole game-destroying RMT industry possible. If you aren't reporting them as well you really have no standing to complain.
I'm honestly starting to believe they don't care and may even be in some way benefiting from it. I have the same people spamming cities for days and longer. Just log in and watch it, that's enough proof to ban the accounts. If it's a hacked account then the owner needs to put in a ticket and wait until someone can fix it (which will probably take 3 months anyway).
They really will have to make a movement soon to keep the mentality of the player base (generally) in line. FFXI wasn't as bad, from the mental state. RMT dominated numerous parts of that game, but their presence was only found out in the field, rather than in towns (albeit you would still see them). That's because there really wasn't any active advertisements going on. It kept that game from feeling like a typical F2P MMO because of that. Plus, with the mob difficulty and whatnot, it was fairly easy for players to MPK the bots/RMT/hackers.
The problem was that they took too long to make a noticeable move. People (myself included) easily got away with using hacks as a result. It becomes a fulfilling enough action once the players needs are satisfied. It just can't hit that point for the offenders, otherwise you're too late. The same mentality goes for gil buyers. If they can easily get away with it, and the RMT can easily fulfill their orders before getting banned/shutdown, corrective action is pointless. The idea that they know they can get away with it has already been planted. The damage is done, and it's there to stay.
At first I started filling in a report, then in that first 30 seconds I notices five more bots pop in, and I didn't get their names. Then it hit me that it's impractical to report these names, because they don't stop. I could sit there 24 hours and new names will keep popping up. So I recorded the thing instead.
Japanese forum mods have responded to my post over there and said they're aware of this and will be making backend changes to stop this. I guess the video did serve its purpose.
The mod response there is:

fix it sE
now
Yeah, but this is a chicken and egg situation, if people were not stupid and selfish enough to cheat by buying gil and XP from RMTs, these RMTs and their bots would have no reason to exist. The fact that they thrive so strongly and are so heavily present proves that there is a very large demand for their services. If people would stop buying their 'services', there would be no reason for them to exist, and they'd stop wasting their time. But until people stop cheating by buying gil, XP or whatever else, this will continue to be a problem.
Simple message to everyone, STOP CHEATING!
Which is why they need to;
a) identify the botting accounts - based on the account behavior,
b) trace the gil the bots generate to the accounts used to accumulate it
c) trace that gil to whichever account is being used to transfer it to the RMT customers
d) trace the accounts that the gil is transferred to
and then e) ban the whole bloody lot of them outright, by MAC and/or IP address if necessary.
