This has to stop.

So, I log and queue up for CM.
Since I'm pretty much fed up with the place and want a smooth & fast run, I check for the ongoing runs to get over with it faster.
A 3/5 opens.
"Oh, cool, it's my lucky day".
So, nothing to say, really smooth run... but I notice one tank seems unexperienced.
Livia dies and one guy in the group says:
"Now you can go watch the cutscenes in the room"
"Oh I can watch them there? Cool"
So I ask him "let me guess... have they bullied you into skipping them?" "yeah, pretty much, they said they didn't want to wait and that it was a speed run, so I had to skip them."
Turns out that the poor guy was really interested in the story, but they abused and coerced him into skipping every cutscene.

THIS. HAS. TO. STOP. NOW.

I've seen this too many damn times.
Stop bullying new people in DF, douchebags.
You want a speed run? Put up your own group in /sh in Mor'dhona with 7 other people that want the same type of run.

And for people new to the story instances... don't let them bully you if you care for the story. Ignore them, and watch your cutscenes... they can leave if they are so annoyed by a few minutes wait.

Pretty much how you should handle it.

I'm kinda confused about why half groups Que for speedruns make a full group Christ you only need 1 tank.

Because making 7 other people stand around for a total of like 20 minutes while you watch cutscenes that you can watch elsewhere is totaly not being a prick either....nope not at all

Considering players interested in watching cutscenes are the great minority, it makes much more sense that they form their own group. Utilitarianism and all.

You guys can tell people to watch cut-scenes in the inn all you want, but lets face it they're not nearly as immersive to watch if you skip and watch them later.

When you use the duty finder, you "agree" to run with whoever they pick for you. This is based on the concept of being able to run content even while lacking friends/FC members.

Solution:

Add a "Watch Cutscene" Check box to the duty finder next to "Join runs in progress" check box. If you uncheck that you only get paired with people who also unchecked it. Also for runs with it unchecked, cutscenes would not even show up, no option to skip them, they just don't exist with this run type.

Problem with solution: people in que to watch cutscenes will likely wait a long time because 90% of the people running cm are doing it for philo speed runs. However I'm sure some (few) people will que that don't care and just want to que faster (e.g. dps).

But with this solution you can pretty much bet that any tanks/healers queing for CM will be first timers in CM. However, CM runs really smooth overall, it's not really hard even if everyone is a first timer.

Also: They could remove philo from CM as long as they give us something other than AK and WP to get Philo and to get Philo efficiently. E.g. it takes 40 some CM runs to get Relic and Full Darklight... nearly double that if you do it with AK (which takes longer).

Sorry but "go to the inn and watch them later" is not a valid solution at all. I play RPGs for the story, I like FFXIVs story, and watching the cut scenes in their intended places, gives what I am doing meaning and over all understanding of what is going on. Once I watch them once, I will skip away, until then, I will watch then when they show up, and I will not skip them. You can pout and bitch all you want, you can throw tantrums an quit the group, I do not care.

Sigh... This has been said many times on the forums. EVERY Cutscene is in the Inn, but there not all under the main story category. You have to change tabs to watch all of them. They are indeed all in the INN. Balme SE for a bad UI on the Journal...

Cutscenes are there to watch at that point in time. If SE intended otherwise, the cutscenes would ONLY be in the Inn. I have no issues waiting for other people to watch them. You shouldn't either.

No. Just no. Thats one good way of making new people leave the game. Solution is for speed runners just to deal with it. Most cs dont last more than 2 mins. Whoopp deee.. dooo..

"One or more members are new to the duty" or whatever the message is pops up @ the start of the instance - I don't care if you watch the cutscenes.

If you're in full Darklight doing a Castrum run and you want to watch all the cutscenes again - I am going to be a bit incredulous when you decide not to skip.

If you don't want to run into people watching cutscenes, stop using Duty Finder for a storyline dungeon. It's not difficult to comprehend.

I don't watch cutscenes in my inn for the same reason I don't watch them on youtube.

Well I'll say deal with it only because I don't DF CM. I run with fixed groups from my FC or 1 of multiple linkshells. I also use voice chat (mumble/ventrilo etc) and we have a system down to haul tail through CM. So if I were to DF it, I would indeed expect to see a few people watching cut scenes and not make a big deal out of it.

But if your on my server and I shout for a CM Speed run and you join and then watch cutscnes and say "Sry first time" yeah your going to get flamed.

This makes me wanna start Queueing CM on my whm just so I can watch every CS and troll all the raging players.

Me full DL and relic +1 YEAH I never finished story hold on guise!!!!

As a side note, I still haven't seen them due to bullying. maybe now i should.

You know it's comments like this that really makes me question the intelligence of the people saying them.

It's not so much the Immersion, it's the fact people want to just know the freakin story. Not everyone is a WoW baby like you and doesn't give a rats behind about the lore. They paid for the right to play, you didn't pay for them. Now that you understand that, you can either sit down, be quiet and accept it, or just leave the party. Nobody will miss you.

The game system itself was made so you get those cut scenes, it's up to the player to choose if they want to watch or not. If you go a group through DF and find someone trying to enjoy the story like it should be, you got no choice. Now you want to go ahead and start throwing words at the person go ahead, but be warned, you could be reported for harassment as the other person did NOTHING wrong. He's playing the game the way it should be played because of the way it's setup up right now. Don't blame the player.

new players have no clue that CM is a place people speed run. When they first hit 50, they continue on their story quest and Q for duty finder. This is where the story is really getting intense.

Then you have tanks chainpull and everyone ignore everything while they kill bosses and yell at them to skip cutscenes.

The people who are speedrunning know better. They have already completed the story. Go to mhro dana, 1 shout, there you go, 8 people. '

If you Q for DF, don't whine and complain based on who you get.

That's your play style, don't try to push that same play style onto others. It's the players own choice if he/she wants to skip or not.

Nope. Never complained about watching CS. Heck haven't even completed about people completely botching up runs. Still doesn't change the fact that if there's 7 people that want to get the run done and 1 person that hasn't done it before I consider it the polite thing to do to skip CS and watch them later.

Also, all the "let em play as they want" shouters are just showing how they want to be jerks by pissing off others, so yeah perhaps you should have a look at yourself first? "hey look at me, I'm gonna rewatch a CS just to piss you off!"

I understand how you may feel it's rude to other players, my wife in fact is the type that skips CS because she feels it's rude as well, so I know where you're coming from. But when using the Duty Finder there is no rules set in stone, no where in the storyline or the game did they ever tell you "you must skip the cut scenes if you're the only one new".

Again, the system was made this way, devs understand it's a problem but this is how it is right now, devs are trying to come up with solution to address this issue.

Also, how is it us being jerks? We're watching the cut scenes to enjoy Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy's all about their story and cut scenes. Come on now, you haven't played other offline Final Fantasy series? I'm not one of those people that purposely watch to annoy others, I watch cut scenes because I LOVE WATCHING THE COOL CUTSCENES, period.

Least we know which mothas to blacklist now.

No matter what point you try to make, it all comes to the same root: If you use the Duty Finder and have a new player in the group, They have the right to watch the cutscene if they want to. It's how people are reacting to this that is causing issue. And to add, the cutscenes are only 30-45 seconds long. Waiting for that player to get out of the cutscene shouldn't cause any problems, they aren't long at all. Basically, if you join the Duty Finder for Speedruns then expect new people in the party and expect people to watch cutscenes.

Re-watching cutscenes? LOL. Now anyone who watches cutscenes for the second time IF they join a speedrun, is just wasting time and deserve to be 'talked' to. But a player whom is new to the run through the Duty finder? No. No one has any right to belittle this player for watching the cutscenes.

Just watch cutscenes. If speed runners want to point fingers, they can point them at SE for putting cutscenes in dungeons. Better yet, they can point it at themselves for using duty finder for speed runs. You can put a party together via shout chat. If you're too impatient to wait, you have to deal with what you get. There's nothing rude about me watching cutscenes. There's nothing rude about you wanting me to skip them. There *is* something rude about you harassing me to get what you want. Its also reportable. Deal with it or drop the duty. You're more than welcome to leave and re-queue.

I play in a speed run today and they ask everybody to skip the instance in Castrum. It was my first time there so I say sure. When I finish and look at the book at the inn room only two cut scene show. :( I have to do it again or watch it on youtube. So if somebody ask you to skip the instances don't listen.

If you're going to check it in the Inn, the cut scenes are there, they have it in a different category so check in there.

Gaming 101: People generally play RPGs for the immersive and entertaining stories. This game, however, isn't strictly an RPG. Its an MMORPG! That means the immersion of the RPG is slightly offset by the MMO part. There are certain game mechanics, like your example of the conveniently placed cannon, which need to be in place to facilitate large amounts of people doing the same content simultaneously and seamlessly. These are acceptable immersion breakers for the most part. Cancelling a relatively short storyline cutscene to save a few minutes of time is NOT an acceptable level of immersion breaking. Get over it.

"Immersion" is a ridiculous thing to begin with, but here we go, if you actually see a difference between watching it in the dungeon and the inn room, your basically telling me that when you play this game the world around you in your mind changes like you were just teleported into the game, the walls are changing and now you see a dungeon all around you, you actually think your fighting a dragon.

Immersion is the early stages of insanity, a story is a story, watching it in 1 pixilated area is the same as another.

They are under "Duty" if i remember right, why they split them is beyond me. Watch them if you want though. None of them are that long, was in a prea group that had all new but me and one other, told people to watch if they want. Wiped three times or so, still had over 30 mins on the clock when we finished.

People giving in to skipping cutscenes on their first time is just stupid honestly. If you want to watch it, watch it. Nothing forces you to skip it.

You can't force anyone to skip cutscenes. Sure it is annoying if you are trying to collect your 100 tomes, as well as lack patience.

However if you took the time to take a few deep breath, focus on yourself and impatience, you will better yourself and have a healthier life. Gain maturity while at it.

Some times I just want to get my tomes. However I am also aware of simple facts. Anyone who wants to watch a cutscene on a DF run, is entitled to it as a paying customer. Regardless of what anyone else wants for their own needs. They are part of the story and run. An aspect o the game. Debate ends there. There are parts of the story line that are customizes only at the point it is watched live.

Berating, calling names, threatening, are all forms of harassment. They are actually against the TOS. I have actually seen someone in a run be rude too three others to the point, they filed complaints and he ended up banned for 15 days. He is a friend of mine who allowed this game to push him the wrong way and mimic other arrogance. As a result he was banned. Which sadly, I had to agree with. So Keep that in mind.


As far as misconceptions to a KICK option. SE cleared it up in a Japanese broadcast. It will be for inactive/DCing people (factors have to be met), not simply because you do not like someone or they are watching cutscenes. Exploitation of it will be a breach in the TOS as well.


Things to help you avoid unknowingly breaking TOS, and chancing a ban.

1. Do not exploit the game.
2. Do not exploit others.
3. Do not harass other players. Call them offensive names, deface, threaten, or make false claims.
4. Do not exploit normal game functions, match making, or attempt to create situations that cause unfair advantage to all paying customers. That included in game services not deemed official. (bans already happened for it).

Comes down to a simple things. Learn patience. Learn maturity. Learn that you are only another paying customer, nothing more. Learn to be civil.

Sadly seems like it's getting worse. Just had a pug duty finder group CM where an overgeared tank called us selfish for not having more gear and then proceeded to afk the last part of the dungeon......ironic eh? We still cleared the run fast and efficiently.

Yeah i will pay to watch a movie in the cinema but not watch it at the time and watch it on dvd at home because it is more convenient for someone else.
