So SE... Them gear/weapon designs....

I got myself the Shadow bow from Stone Vigil, during my first run as 41 Bard inthere.
And holy jeebus thats a sweet looking bow...
It seems like the middle is made out of demon bone, with a red ruby in the middle and the tips are dragon teeths. Just bloody amazing looking bow.

Today, I went into Dzemal Darkhold, and got a new level 44 bow... and well...

So yeah, whats with the bland design SE? I guess it dont really matter much, since there is only 6 lvls left until the level 50 GC bow.
But do hope thoose vanity slots come soon. ^^

And he's right, the level 44 bow is actually just an Aetherial item, wich then explains the very bland design. My bad on forgetting that the Shadow Bow is a unique item from the gold chest in Stone Vigil. :)

lol, its not really a complaint or to go into "RABBLE RABBLE!" mode about it. I was just surprised to see such a bland design that fits a level 5 bow more than a level 44 dungeon drop, specially coming from that very very nicely made level 41 bow.

Is that the crap bow for crafting purposes? If not Jeezus thats one hell of a visual downgrade.

They don't want to waste art assets on gear that's meant to be replaced.

Their big failure was in not including vanity slots for release.

Nope it is not hehe. It is actually an upgrade to the level 41 bow, dropped from Darkhold dungeon on 2nd boss. There might be a much better looking bow as drop from Dzemal Darkhold, but have yet to see any.
The stats on it however, is very nice. Much much better than the level 44 GC bow.

who cares that most of the gear is a recolor of a retexture of another gear.
people want body hair on males and bigger butts on miqo'te.

Some people like simpler designs, some more ornate. When the vanity system comes in, this will be a moot point. I'd even see people at cap running lower dungeons for the look of certain gear.

Vanity system?

FFXIV 1.0 Designs were simplistic and practical. Some body designs had belts matching the set to complete the look andnot having them makes those pieces look ridiculous and oversimplified. (look: Tabards, Chainmails and Shirts).

2.0 lands and it keeps using those simplistic designs from 1.0 but adds a bunch of MMOy armor that looks awesome but just doesn't mesh well with all the basic equipment from 1.0

What I'm hoping is that as the game grows and better looking equipment are introduced across all level ranges, fewer people would make/wear 1.0 equipment and they'll get phased out.
