Solving the future criteon longevity

(Before continuing I must say, that this thread is only about the ideas for future Criteon releases. Current state discussion have another threads on this forum)

many players here voiced their dissatisfaction with the reward of new criteon and criteon savage dungeons. Well, no wonder. We are MMO players of this year. We always want new content and we want to find the most efficient ways to finish it. Getting our numbers bigger etc etc.

We can see that SE designed Criteon just as true side content with not much replayability. That by itself isnt bad. Its still content and GOOD content at that! What makes it kinda sad is, that we had to sacrifice new zones (Like Eureka/Bozja) and big raids (Like BA/DRS, I think they said no raids like these in EW) which people like to grind to this day. So I wanted to ask this subreddit, how would YOU prefer them handling the big criteon question and how would you solve it? Or do you think the content itself is good and its fine it will slowly fade until new one release?

So first, some ideas going the "reward" route:

Tome upgrades - Savage criteon dungeons sounds like the best candidate to get that one more weekly upgrade and would help people in PF. But tbh, is it a good way? Is it a good reward? You would have one more possible upgrade per week for one more "I MUST DO" before reset, or you lose on your sweet sweet avg ilvl increase. In my opinion, Lowering book count to 3 for upgrades (wep upgrade should stay at 4) would be much better solution to this and would help PF people drastically. Remember, gear isnt big problem in savage. But PF iLvl requirements is (:

Tome reward upgrade - One of my opinions is, that by simply upping capped tome reward by 70 for criteon and 90/100 for savage would make criteons best repeateble way to fast cap tomes. Yeah sure, we lose few i630 in experts, but who realy cares about that.

Glams. Glams is the true endgame. But we already have one set as a variable and making anothers takes a long time and resources. So how to vindicate making another one? Well, I really liked the idea of upgradable Eureka gear sets. If criteon would drop i610 gear that would be upgradable (to i610) with savage tomes, but would have special effects (Like haste in DSR, but more interesting hopefully) IN criteon only and would be useable in the next release of criteons, that would be great. The later one is harder, as criteon is iLvl sync and I dunno how would they need to scale it to work in the next release, which will be i640, but just saying the idea out of top of my head. Maybe next criteon would just push old gear from 610 to 640 again, but you would still need to have full set from previous criteon, making them still wanted.

Those were the REWARD based changes. But now, lets see the other way around. Instead of reward, we change content itself, because if the content itself doesnt make you want to do it, its not worth it:

Affixes - Oh boy. I know I know. I see you raging. But look, Jeff over there is hyped! No, lets be real. Weekly affixes that changes how the dungeons play sound awesome to me. You still have same dungeon, but by changing few stuff, its completly different experience! So instead of doing the content purely for reward, you do it only for experience! And if there would be like 6 different affixes that changes weekly, they could make special title for clearing savage with all different affixes. Its simple as that.

Special duty actions - Imagine this. From the last boss, you would get random special consumable duty actions, same as you had in Eureka/Bozja before. That would be consumable, so you would need to rekill it for more, but just thought about posssible ways of clearing with these sounds great. It would serve mainly as entertaiment for speedclears etc, but would add another thing to enjoy rekilling it again. Also, unsellable, to not make them mandatory.

Variant criteon dungeon - Probably the hardest one to do. Changing the mechanics of boss per your route. I loved the variant idea and I cant wait for SE to expand on it (I hope they do). Its sadly only in variant mode and savage have predetermined path. Just imagine they would bring it to savage. Yeah sure, it would probably end up as T2 Bahamut - finding the best optimal route, but after you have your kill, you still have the possibilities to try the rest! That sadly basically needs to design multiple more savage boss fights, so they would probably not go this route.



What are your ideas how to make criteons interesting for longer? Share it! I would love to read about it! Or are you happy with current state? Share why any changes would make it worse. I would love to get different views too!

I don't know if they will ever let us unsync it, especially as it's part of a separate duty window. It syncs to 635 so it's a bit like ultimates with a tier sync.

It has a mount reward which requires it to be done 25 times, so people will be doing this criterion dungeon for years to come unless they make it able to be unsynced or allow you to get the mount with the reward from a different criterion dungeon, but it doesn't look like it because they are sil'dihn coins and I don't think all of these criterion dungeons will be sil'dihn.

Which is exactly why they didn't go that route. They want Criterion to be fully optional, not just a weekly checklist item.

Again, this is exactly why they did do it that way. They specifically talked about this in one of the live letters and basically said "since players will ALWAYS find the most optimal path and use it exclusively, there's no point in making alternate routes that will never be used."

I have run ALL possible routes of T2. Thats not true for everyone. Just for ppl who finish it once and then never after :)

I personally feel like this should've been another way to progress gear in the game. The minimum ilvl is 610, but syncs down to 635, and watching everyone do hard mode (and especially savage) it seems like this content was tuned for people that have more than simply crafted gear. I would've like to see a weekly reward for each boss cleared to purchase 630 tome pieces, but that seems to not be the direction they want to go with it.

Even with their current take on the rewards, I think it was poorly implemented. The manuscript from savage is near useless. The banner and earring are sadly laughable as rewards. I think a better option would've been to just provide more silver pieces for a savage clear to incentivize taking that path to farm the hard mode rewards if you have the ability. Maybe 8 per run in savage and 4 silver for the hard mode. That is a nice alternative if they dont wanna go the gear progression route.
