Please, no more Hydaelyn

The title is a little bait, but i think this topic will be interesting if you like lore.


In A Realm Reborn we face a phantom ascian menace where they want to get primals involved everywhere and suddenly hydaelyn save us when things get more intense. Most of the time we are acting like some kind of FBI agent in a fantasy world trying to understand what is happening. However, this universe build in Final Fantasy XIV have so much more to show!

I'll take as example the Twelve. They are like gods that lived in our world, moogles existed with them. We had something like Silmarilion at our hands when Noldors lived closer to the Valars. However, when they are mentioned in MSQ? it's so rare and just for symbolic purpose like we heard about Rhalgr and Ala Mhigo. In Heavensward we have something interesting, look this part of the music theme:

"Guide us, o might Fury. Guide us to victory!"

Fury is the name of Halone. Halone have a church at Ishgard and a very interesting lore. In practical terms no one of it matters.

My problem is: They are just strange circles when we face Lahabrea or when we get married.

Here is my two cents:
- They saw the Twelve as a component of gameplay was a bad thing and incorporate this mechanism in Eureka (in earlier versions of the game they gave you elemental resistance) and ignored they existence as a practical resource.
- 1.0 was not exactly a perfect game. They rushed the lore of ARR and focused in core components that really needed some rework.

Please, don't take it too much personal and maybe it's just my frustration speaking but...i wish we had something more than a classical duality during our journey.

Well I mean... (5.3 spoilers)

We ARE Azeyma in the broadest sense. The Twelve are basically Primals that are heavily hinted to have been made in remembrance to the Convocation of Fourteen. Azeyma and Azim from the Steppe are allusions to Azem, our original incarnation, and how their work across the unsundered Star touched many lives and shaped entire cultures in the aftermath of the sundering. Nald'thal is pretty clearly based on Emet Selch and the rest are mostly left up to interpretation. Though you can make a strong argument that Llymlaen is Mitron, Thaliak is Lahabrea, Nophica links to Loghrif, and so on.

Your argument hinges on the Twelve being actual gods, but they frankly aren't. But neither is Hydaelyn. All that said however 6.0 is supposed to wrap up the Hydaelyn and Zodiark storyline so you'll get your wish in short order.

For all the talk about Hydaelyn, you actually don't interact directly after ARR. You spend much more time talking to a reborn dragon. The Ascians are eternally ticked off, sure, but SE has definitely said that that particular plotline will resolve in 6.0.

As for the Twelve, sometimes ancestral memories run deep, and have little or nothing to do with Hydaelyn.

As for duality, as long as there is day and night, people will create dualities. Nothing much you can do about it. Sometimes it's clear-cut. Sometimes it's as hazy as the smoke that rises from a wood fire.

In a Narrative Universe, there is always something to strive against, even when that something is ourselves.

There is a good chance the 12 gods are just the 14 Ascians, especially given Nad’Thal is technically two entities.

As “Dalamud” was a corrupted version of “Bahamut”, we should expect the names to be janky, and even their roles/genders or relationships to be somewhat wrong.

It would not surprise me if:

Gaia were Nophica and Athena were Halone. Halone’s description (shield weilder) is similar enough to Greek myth, it would just mean they were rivals/lovers rather than bitter rivals. Since ascians change bodies, it’s possible the name Athena means he was actually female at some point..but who knows.

No worries, they will move on to a new part of the lore starting in 6.1. Yoshi-P already stated that the Hydaelyn/Zodiark storyline will be wrapped up by the end of the 6.0 MSQ (as in, once the 6.1 patch comes out, they will start a new storyline).

And everyone is right.

I made some mistakes during my first comment, honestly, Final fantasy XIV is my first FF game where i spent a lot of time and still have so much to learn.
I made a hollow comparison between the twelves and the valars, they are not exactly the same but as a player i felt like they could be something similar.
The way that some NPCs talked about them made me think like they are more than primals and think about them as something higher...like a demigod.
During our fest today, master Yoshi P announced they will finally explore the twelves and it's so nice to see how they answered many different feedbacks (male Viera and oceania data center).

I don't know, i felt like ARR was the longest part of the story, more than Heavensward but maybe it's just a wrong feeling. After awhile i felt like ARR was rushed compared to SHB when we found Y'shtola. The story in SHB was better paced and we see many different point of view about this duality (Zodiark - Hydaelyn).
This plotline feels like "Hey, Hydaelyn is this entity that do X and Y...and now you have a civil war at ul'dah and you need to leave" i mean..it's like they concluded "we need to push it to the side for a while and focus on new stories that will introduce new characters and they will play a important role when we finally figure out what we want to do at the end"

All details to the side, this is exactly what i'm talking about. I wish they explored the twelve the same as they do with many different stories present in our game (job quest, side quest).

I was more under the impression that the Twelve are those who summoned Hydaelyn, not the Convocation who summoned Zodiark. But I guess we'll find out more in 6.0.
