I just need to blow off some steam likely due to lack of sleep that I can't seem to get so ignore this or not. Whatever...

I'm currently at a loss as to what to do with this game. I enjoy the community and wish to continue but the changes has been more grueling than not. Balance differences among classes and loss of play style is drawing this game closer and closer to bland than I can tolerate. Alot of what drew me to this game and kept me locked in was the differences in play style across the jobs. I could play one tank and be all defense, or another and be no defense. I could priority heal before damage or just heal after damage. Even all the dps had different feels. Not so much now. And it's not even only that. How do you make everything in the game feel like it's the same as all the other things but have the values of it as a whole be so sporadic.

How do you figure instant rezzing to be equal to dps, weather it is R or Pdps? It doesn't. Why is the difference in tank mana consumption so great as to have one tank capable of casting 5 spells and the other only casting 3. Why does the tank who cast 5 spells only need to do two attacks to cast another spell while the one who can only cast 3 need to do 5? Why are the potencies for the same basic combo so different, or the same regen effects? Because the class name changed? No. By recharge and ability slot it is the same ability, may as well have the same name and potencies. How do you figure just because a class adds dps to the team it should be given lower potencies but classes that buff themselves you give higher ones?

This is backward thinking, penalizing people who play as a team over those who don't, don't you think? Abilities that had fall off or negatives have been dropped from some classes and not others? Living dead and mudra still have penalties, why? Why did you strip war of being war? Nascent is good yes, but really? You took away everything it was and gave it nothing but potency buffs. Buffs that are less than pld base. Uhm? What? Giving SCH another resource basically in sylph for what? it does nothing special at all. Just a trait for +50 potency, upgraded fey blessing and embrace would be better than a swap summon. Or do you not think SCH has enough timers limiting their healz already? I mean. Even their resources are under 30+ second timers while whm run free as a bird. Not to mention you get 20 seconds to summon out this little nat that really only has one use in Consolation. As another SCH said in another thread, if you wouldn't die from it anyway a shield is useless, and its weak 200 potency shield from it's embrace couldn't soak 1/2 a hit from anything I'd waste a limited time summon on.

Removing variety from your game by making choices trival and sometimes non-existant will not help the player base in the long run. Trivalizing game play my draw in new players but it will not keep them for the long haul.

I may be over thinking this or just angrily nit picking at one thing or another because my main seems to have been run into the mud, or that I'm stuck with one heal that is worth anything (Emergency Tactics + Adloquim) and two aetherflow abilities for the most part(Sacred Soil, excognition). Could be I'm tired of all the healer downtime or staring at my hotbars in High end raids. OR it could be I'm angry that the only fix dark ever needed it still needs a mp change to abilities that you gave to pld. Whatever.. Just rambling...

Take a break from the game and play another game, or just quit the game entirely.

I'm confused.. in the same post you say that all classes feel the same, then proceed to say it doesn't make sense they have similar skills with different effects.

I see grief against homogenization very often on this forum and more often then not the people complaining don't propose anything and adopt a shifting stance.. Of course you can draw parallels with a lot of tank skills , or healers skills, or DPS skills: they have a job to do and you need those tools. But you complaining that similar skills have different effect and that forces the job to play differently while complaining against homogenization is bewildering

I'd take a break personally. Sounds like you're currently burnt out when you're weighing all of these options at the same time in the moment.

I feel like this is hitting hard for you now due to the more homogenized gameplay of the tanks/heals. As time moves on more and more will be changed allowing the jobs to be more fleshed out and varied. At least for me it seems like 5.0 was more a soft reboot of the core gameplay for XIV and from there we can gradually work our ways back to the Stormblood level of variety at the least.

Well, it looks like you've been playing a long while so you may just be getting a bit burned out on the game. It's okay to take a break if you need to, especially if you're not having fun. Personally the classes all feel pretty distinct to me, but I'm a fresh faced MMO babe of just a bit over a year, so someone who's been playing much longer may feel differently. Maybe take a step away from healing for a bit if it's a sore spot for you right now. Things change and will change again with the classes and classes will continue to evolve and develop, especially since the healers are all at the same baseline now. They're at a foundation where things can be built upon.

Life's too short to punish yourself doing stuff you don't enjoy OP.

Also concerning grief towards homogenizing classes. It's because it's just bad game design in the context of an mmo (quite a few reasons for that). There are a few alternatives, many of which have already been suggested multiple times throughout the years in the role forums. The thing is, you need a dedicated balance team and some dedicated tools to carry it out properly and to the best of my knowledge, SE as a business, has decided this wasn't where they wanted to spend their time/money. Hence why the current situation is what it is.

PS: it could also stem from them not knowing how to go about it but I would find that weird given they should have ample opportunity to hire the right people for the job (not to mention a big pool of experienced designers).

Take a break. As someone who hasn't been with the game very long, all jobs seem to have a good 'identity'. Might feel different for someone who's been playing for years.

I'll agree on some things that are just facepalm, though. Scholar's Seraph is an entirely unnecessary addition of buttons; a trait to your existing fairy could have made room for a more interesting level 80 mechanic. There are things like this across many classes, but they seem to be aware and making improvements.

Overall though, you have to agree that the quality and balance are rather high for most people, but playing too much can make you a bit bitter and skew your perspective of how bad things are. Get some rest, then come back.
