Out of Reach

I've hit 70 on my miner and botanist and gathering collectables for scrips to unlock the legendary nodes however all the nodes are currently "out of reach" so I end up using Toll to unlock losing 300gp.

So what level of gathering is required before the level 65 and 70 nodes are no longer out of reach. I'd then be able to aim for those numbers to make better use of gathering.

I've searched a lot online and the only data out there I could find is for Heavensward so any info appreciated.

The higher level nodes tend to give you like 6, if not more, chances to gather. What you want to do is have your level high enough so you can use a chance to get to the item without using Toil. then its basic collectable stuff from here. But, I would personally try using M'naago and Kurenai for scrips though, the collectables are a bit easier to get and you get a lot from them at max level.

they will stay out of reach until maybe 5.0 will be released. maybe they will stay out of reach even then, we don't know.

you need to know in wich slot the item is placed you want to gather. normally the same item is always in the same slot. so when your item is in slot number 6, you hit slot 6 one time to unlock it and then you can gather the item. you will lose 1 gathering attempt this way, but you will save the 300 GP.

Ah thanks ok that makes more sense. I thought that I just needed to get higher gathering in order to clear the out of reach. Now I know I don't need to aim for gathering to get that I can focus on getting more collectibles by a single hit.

I'd assumed that using a single hit wasn't as good as toll. I've been getting between 3 and 5 collectibles per node at present so racking up the scrips but going through cordial like it's water. :) At least crafting HQ cordials is trivial and low mat requirements given my minions gathering them on their ventures.

I've used ffxivclock a lot and the corresponding iPhone app. Although the app is great for alerting it's got a serious bug that drains the battery on my phone something rotten.

I just unlocked them on the MSQ yesterday so leveling them up too. Thanks for the feedback.

The auto-clear of out-of-reach nodes level 60 and below are due to a trait you got at level 65. Without that trait those nodes would not automatically clear either. The amount of gathering you have does control how many gathering attempts you need to use to clear a slot. Too low gathering and it can take more than one attempt.

Thanks for the explanation are you aware of the number of gathering you need to ensure you clear it on one hit?

No, I do not know the exact number - and it will of course be different for level 50, level 60, and level 70 nodes.
You do not need top-end gear though - decent gear is enough.

Your best best is to keep a notebook on hand and write down which slot the stuff is in for each area. That way you don’t have to waste that 300gp each time. You can for straight to that item
