So I've seen posts that are upset about the state of housing and I understand. Daily I sift through the residential districts to see if maybe someone has relinquished their land. Every day I'm met with disappointment.My group and I, ~15 players, made a Free Company close to Heavensward dropping. The core 8 of us are a late night static (roughly 2 am EST - 5 am EST). Currently we are locked out of crafting and tinkering with an airship regardless of how people feel about it we can't do it.
-No we do not want to merge with some other FC if we could even find one as we like our design behind ours. What's the point of giving up aspects of our Free Company just to "see" an airship, not saying we'd have permission just joining some random FC with leadership already in place, that we'd get to control anything about it.
-The ability to buy multiple housing created massive issues. In one ward alone a Free Company holds 8 plots. I don't know if FC is even active.
So when will we have access to this content as the group that would like to continue to play together?

There's a three step plan for housing. I am sure someone can provide you a link to the information (I'm too lazy) but tl;dr step 1) implement a house moving feature, 2) free up abandoned houses, 3) maybe add more wards to the existing areas(mist, lavender beds and goblet) or maybe add Ishgard housing wards. It wont all happen in patch 3.1... it'll be spread out over a few patches.

Unfortunately, they had a feature for relinquishing land ready to go before personal housing was even a thing, but there was a sh**storm from 1-person FCs that seem to think it's their godgiven right to hold on to a limited resource even if they unsub for years. However, they've said they're going to move forward with it pretty soon. Expect a lot of houses to free up and have money ready to buy one, as while this feature will help, there's still (and will always be) a massive shortage of houses compared to people that want to buy them.Quote:

I think the biggest mark against housing relinquishment is that it literally in and of itself solves no issue what so ever. Even if 100 houses per server get repo you still have servers with upwards of 500k players that don't have a house. Lets say you narrow the demand down based on the ability to pay strictly and its only 100k people with viable demand, you are still talking about only a fraction of a percent of people acquiring a house the only difference is now you've also pissed some other people off.
The only answer here is to provide an adequate supply of housing for everyone and limit the amount of properties available to people. Personal housing shouldn't even be a thing with the supply of houses so low and it was a TERRIBLE idea to implement. -

I know some friends that have gone on to form their own FCs and just can't get one. At least with this, they'll stand a chance with 1 of the many abandoned houses. It will give us a flood of housing at first and then ensure a steady trickle for hopefuls thereafter.Quote:

House sharing will help a little bit. It wont give access to ship building, but to everything else.
I actually haven't read an official article or dev post about house sharing. I should do that. I've only read second hand information. Someone posted that the max will be five people. I sure hope it isn't. Five is simply not enough. I have at least 18 friends who'd like access to my house. -

That limitation on your Friends list prevents friending your alts or being able to send moogle mail to them. What I really want house sharing for is to be able to use the same house for all my alts.
