If SE were to add Time Mage, give your input or ideas as to how it could work?

When reading another forum post here, Yoshi-P talked about support jobs and how it would be difficult to include them because they would either always have to be needed or they would never be wanted. They listed a few jobs that were talked about a lot and Yoshi-P stated that the next job would surprise players.

Time Mage would be an amazing job to add in my opinion, but I think it would partially be under the support role. How would you go about implementing a job like this? What abilities would you give it. How would you solve the problem stated by Yoshi-P above?

Time Mage is Astrologian just as Rogue is Thief.

Here are a couple thoughts.
1. Have a LARGE AOE ability that when cast will add time between the monsters next special attack. Could be 5-10 seconds of time added. Something that would give people a breather in a tough situation. (This would also add time to a fight that has a hard enrage at a specific time.)
2. A support role may need to give out buffs strong enough where 7 players could down a monster in the time it would take 8 players. This would effectively stick them in a DPS slot, but give the DPS an extra 1/3 damage added on to what they already do. I guess similar to an echo buff. (Of course I'm just pulling 1/3 out of a hat, this could be whatever number works best.)

How about a "healing" spell that reverts your HP to whatever it was ten seconds ago? Careful though, it can also hurt you if you mistime it.

This. Quite a few of the AST spells are very clearly Time Mage spells. AST is basically a mix of Corsair from FFXI with a Time Mage.

I think it might have an ability/LB called "astral stasis" for starters... ~.^

I think what they're saying, and I agree, is that parts from Time Mage were cannibalized to make Astrologian so its unlikely Time Mage will appear in FFXIV. Namely they're both closely related to heavenly bodies and they share control of space/time (Some of AST's abilities include Time Dilation, Gravity, and Lightspeed).

But its still fun to think about how classes could be implemented even if we know they probably won't be.

If you are going to try and compare it to a past iteration you aren't going to get anywhere because then Warrior isn't Warrior, Paladin isn't Paladin etc etc. It's not really the best thing to do when you have to keep in mind jobs tend to get re-imagined based on the game it's on. So in XIV's sense Astrologian is a Time Mage, but it's a Time Mage based on the concept of the stars dictating the idea of controlling space/time in a sense. It's a blend of astrology and time. Also as mentioned a little bit of Corsair thrown in for good measure.

But see, you throw in FF Tactics Time Mage and you get the following, Haste, Slow, Stop, Float, Reflect, Quick, Gravity and Meteor. It's not exactly a lot of ability to go on.


Now you look at what cards can do, they have a Haste mentality to them, there is a spell called Gravity so there is that, Meteor is a LB break ability so can't really use that as a regular skill. And overall there isn't enough to go on from the concept within Tactics to make it into a job, especially a healer at that lol.

Astologian also get a skill that stop time for a short time.
