And here I am, struggling to find people who speak my first language Dx Were are you fellow hispanics?!
I just found one of the more toxic players I've seen in the game for long.
We were running Weeping City as FC. All were good till Ozma. In that boss, four or five members of one alliance started troll the other alliances by killing them droping the meteors near othe paries, turning tank laser to other parties or passing on balls and this ones kill the next group (happend if no one take the balls). The first time we just think was an accident (no newie message, so no one were new). But, in the next tries, they continue killing the other parties, till the alliances starting ask that ones why they were doing that. They just make fun of that and started say that othre must "grow" and "keep calm" and stop complain and they started spaming emotes too and pulling the boss al lthe time. Because there were 5 in the party, it was impossible kick them. Also, people keep refusing the Vote Abandon because some of them reported those guys and wanted do it while happend (as recommend in the report window), to the point a Game master kick them from the duty (If that is possible, I never seen a GM enter on a Duty). We didn't see any GM, but we supposed were a GM because they 4 dissappeared at the exact same time. After that, the Vote Abando go, and everyone disband.
Really ,sometimes I wonder what profit they take fo making other people runs a hell, making fun at the expense of others. I wish they got a ban for few days or something, or GM take them in the jail or whatever. I've never seen before such toxicity.
Got into weeping city today. We had a DPS leave after first boss and then got a SMN replacement. Well, their gear broke after the second boss, and were sitting at 3k HP. I tried to give them a courtesy kick, since they couldn't do anything, but got told off because "Oh they pulled their weight!" Not wanting to carry someone, I left during Ozma.
Got vote kicked from weeping city, first the tank turned some of the trash mobs towards me on my blm and it cleaved me [died]. Then, during bleeds from one of the bosses, healers didn't heal me [died]. Turns out my alliance was a FC of players, so it was pretty much a bully session against me the whole time.
Coffee is indeed glorious, I completely understand ;w;
Anyway do have a slight DF story I guess from today.
Decided to do the EX Roulette with my boyfriend and our mutual friend, I'm on Dark Knight and they are Bard and Dragoon respectively.
We got an Astrologian, we all say our hello's to him and the run begins, though I notice something is off as he doesn't do any form of dps and he also held onto his cards for dear life. I shrug it off and keep going, anyway we get to the first boss and well it takes a couple more minutes than I'm used to die as my bf and friend are still gearing up and are both still very new to the game having only played for a couple months. Our Dragoon friend also runs on quite a low end laptop so his frames aren't exactly amazing so I give him benefit on the doubt in regard to how fast things die.
Though the Astrologian seemed to be absolutely appalled by us not doing it in 2 minutes and instantly left the dungeon after the loot was rolled for (He passed on the loot), he didn't say a single word and I was just left slightly annoyed that he decided that the run was a lost cause because the 1st boss took a tiny bit longer to die ¬___¬
On a plus we got a really chill and awesome scholar in 5 seconds so we finished our run anyway, though I did screw up on the 2nd boss and the 1st Quasar took out 3/4 of the left side :p
Antitower. Breeze through the dungeon bc 240 WAR & NIN & I decided to SMN(14 mins woo). Calcabrina. I get turned into a doll at 45%. They ignore me & dps the boss <.<
.....the healer finally bailed me out but I decided to let them finish alone since that's what they wanted, turned on the tv, waited for them to win, commd healer & left asap.
I probably acted childish at the time but WOW I was just so surprised & in awe they did that.
Today we got a lvl 35 thaumaturge in the temple of Quarn that couldn't kill bees fast enough.. thank mog I'm an Astrologian. Lightspeed helped a lot, but we did wipe. Even worse, the tank had no respect for my MP, and ran straight to a boss when I had 140. She then proceeded to tell me that It was the bees, not that I can't heal with low mp. She even stated to me "No Its Just Bees" when I tried to with only 100 something mp to rez her butt, only to be killed by doom.
when I tried to explain to her* I can't edit on mobile. e.e
Friends and I hop into Sohr Khai for a fun run for some esos. I was healing and they were the deeps.
Tank was great, A+.
Dungeon took like < 20 min. He gave me the comm, I felt happy :)
Leveling roulette on BLM for Esos yesterday :3 Get a "1 minute in progress" dungeon, think of some low level stuff another DPS just didn't want to deal with. Whatever, I join and immediately get terrified by a Manor Maidservant that got pulled from their original spot to the entrance of Haukke Manor. After the mob is dead, the WHM writes "LOL" and leaves - I look up the other party members and notice a sprout level 37 marauder as our tank. I say my hello and ask her in party chat if she knows how to unlock warrior, she answers in Novice Network (nice coincidence here we're on the same server) that she doesn't and that she's new. So I explain in NN what the warrior actually is and how to become one, while two other mentors explain the advantages of being a warrior rather than marauder. Meanwhile an AST joins, and after I advice her to unlock the gladiator after the dungeon, we go to smash the dungeon with me using Quelling whenever it's up and switching targets - with the latter just neccessary every now and then as the tank does actually very well for being a marauder tanking against a well-geared level 60 BLM. In the end, she has only minor aggro issues, and after the dungeon, I ask her if she knows where the gladiator's guild is (as a frequently asked question in NN is "where's XYZ's guild?"). She does, I give her my comm, I get one back, everything's cool.
Today I looked her up on Lodestone, her gladiator is level 12 now. Feels so good when people actually listen to advice and take it :)
I just wanted to say thanks to the fantastic Weeping City DF group I joined last night. It was my first time through, and they took the time to explain everything, and were very supportive when I faceplanted a couple times learning the mechanics. We actually made it through the entire thing with no wipes, which I understand is a pretty rare occurance.
It's good to be reminded that there are still lots of friendly, helpful, and patient players out there, and the world isn't entirely filled with jerks.
Did Void Ark run yesterday. As per usual, everyone was rushing through things. Which that in itself isn't a problem at all. However, when we got to the add chamber between boss 1 and 2, it caused some issues. Apparently alliance C had some new players. For some reason or another, they decided to explain mechanics of the upcoming section, while still in the 1st boss's room... So someone pulled when they saw no more dots on the map on their way. Apparently, amongst those not present, alliance C's tank was one of them... To top it off, alliance B decided they wanted my adds... (I was alliance A) and grabbed and ran away with them ._. Then I see Alliance C's adds wailing away at my healer... so I picked them up... And my alliance proceed's to kill alliance C's adds, alliance B has killed their adds (and apparently decided the adds they ran away with that were supposed to be mine weren't worth killing). So we have a very very messed up looking system going and it was complete and utter chaos. Luckily, no wipe, it was just.... interesting. Oddly enough, after we kill Alliance B and C malboro, we noticed that no one bothered to kill the last worm add... It was full fricking health sitting there hitting one of the healers (who apparently liked the light tappings of a small worm as they did nothing to stop it). So pretty much the whole raid flocked over to kill it. And because none of us were thinking about the fact that alliance B dragged it across the map, we kill it and see the malboro pop up on the other side of the area T_T
So now we're all running around to the otherside and Mr. Malboro is all like, oh hey! You're all here to smell my breathe in one big group! I'm telling you. Frickin mess!!
After that, the ready check function was used quite often...
The only people who wonder why there's a tank shortage are those who've never played tanks. Every single run today, people running off and pulling mobs on their own. Not even bigger pulls, just 2-3 mobs that they hold away from me. I'm not even one of those tanks who has TP/MP problems and needs to stop between pulls.
If you want a full clear or an accessory in a room I skipped, ask. Otherwise shut the fuck up and sit the fuck down. :|
Hope they're enjoying their wait for a replacement, I'm watching Netflix until my penalty is up and then I'm using my LSes and FCs to fill a party for leveling tonight. God save us from DF.
EDIT: OH I ALMOST FORGOT. "Big pulls, wait until I stop" in DD and the DRG blows his load on the first mob he sees, every time.
I should just... stop tanking. Not because I am a bad tank, not because I am incapable of keeping aggro, but because, for some reason, the last 2 times I've gone into Leveling roulette as PLD, I've somehow ended up with some spectacular gems of DF parties.
The latest of which was a Stone Vigil run, involving an AST, a BRD, and a BLM that took 50 minutes to complete. Only the BRD died, we never wiped, and I deliberately skipped all the side rooms. 50 minutes for this. BLM was level 55, yet spamming Fire III in Astral Fire III, using Transpose instead of Blizzard/Fire III, hardcast Thunder while under AF III, and only ever used Raging Strikes at the last boss. BRD refused to sing Foe's until I specifically told them to at the last boss, wasn't even using Straight Shot unless Heavy Shot procced, hardly ever used their cooldowns, hardly ever used Bloodletter that I could see, and when asked to step up the DPS, claimed they were "doing my best".
I'm still thinking the BLM was trolling me. I really don't know why I put in effort for people like these...
I find the more I play, the saltier I get... Got Snowcloak for lvl 50 rltte and I wanted to throttle the tank for not pulling more. He pulled the very minimum, but I kept quiet because we had the newbie msg and I assumed it was him (forgetting shield oath confirmed it for me). Got to the end, the BLM was the new one .-.
I tried to keep my pulls as small as possible, because I doubted these DPS even knew how to AoE. The very few times I accidentally pulled 4 or more mobs, yup, sure enough, BRD wasn't AoEing at all. BLM threw out a few Fire IIs but otherwise did a single-target rotation... that involved "spamming" Fire III.
I love the choices we're offered in these situations. Either speak up, tell the DPS they're doing badly, and get called an elitist snob even if I try to offer advice(which is what happened), leave, eating a penalty and getting called an elitist snob, or stick it out and have 50 minutes of my life wasted on people who refuse to learn and are perfectly happy to waste everyone's time.
Some people have whispered to me about a mystical fourth option, in which you speak up, the DPS actually listen, improve their DPS, and the run gets finished quickly, but I am starting to believe that this is just that, a legend that will never come true.
As long as you say speak up and ask if you can make a suggestion or be kind it seems to work. When those few people who say 'Why are you doing ___?!" That's when the anger rises for some. However sounds like a bad time all around.
Only one today, raid night got cancelled for us cus members were not there or personal issues so decided to do a PF for Nidhog EX, stated looking for people for last phase - clear. Couldn't even get to Fang and Claw consistently. Turned out after a few wipes that we had new people in there who had never even touched it it seemed as we had mass wipes before add phase.
I explain boss Mechanics for a AoE Heavy boss fight to a new player which I said "This is a DDR boss fight."
The new player ask "Why do you call it DDR?"
Then I said "Because it is Dodge Dodge Revolution."
The entire group laughed and we continued into the boss fight going through the usual AoE Dodge dance with AoE heavy bosses.
PS I tend to call AoE Heavy boss fight "DDR" due to it being a general dodge AoE Heavy Dance fight.
I was doing crystal tower yesterday and started with wod. I was getting into a group that already tried the first boss - and wiped.
After we got full again, I discussed with the other tanks, who will main and after that I told my group, what was our task here.
There was no wipe for us but just the cerberus was a miss at first try but then I took over the doggie 2ND try and we cleared without trouble.
The cloud was really easy since all knew what to do and communication was good.
I'm glad it turned out that way, especially for those who had trouble right before I arrived.
Syrcus tower I mt'ed everything so we had no trouble at all.
Sigh I tried to do Mentor Roulette on WHM; which in hindsight I probably shouldn't have bothered.
Got Dzemael Darkhold which isn't my favourite dungeon but I don't mind it. Got two mandy bud DPS but they were fine as far as I could tell, problem was the PLD (who had no mandy bud mind you and also had a DPS class at 55+) who started pulling in Sword Oath and didn't go to the crystal safe area.
They pulled the two hippogryphs and we killed them but the PLD had no hate on one of them at all and didn't even try to get it off of the DRG, but eh its just two mobs.
We got to the second pull though of 3 mobs and the PLD didn't go into the crystal so they were getting hit really hard since no Shield Oath and got hit by the Eye damage. I kept them alive just barely mostly because 2 out of 3 of the mobs were on me after two heals. So I tanked 2 of them while the others killed the other.
At this point I let them know if they don't use Shield Oath they will have problems keeping hate. No response they just kept running.
We get to the large room with the 2 switches that opens the boss room. This room is full of mobs. PLD runs in and we fight a lone hippogryph while not getting in the crystal. It doesn't take long before someone aggros the mobs in the center of the room and the wandering mobs up top. So since the tank isn't even using Shield Oath they flashed but took so much damage from the mobs and the Eye that I had to Cure II them. As soon as the cure went off I had about 6 mobs on me and we weren't in the crystal. I almost died but I sprinted to the crystal so the Eye couldn't hit me and since I had hate on everything at that point everyone followed me.
So as a WHM I tanked the whole pack spamming heal on myself while the tank diddles around just DPSing I guess. I never even saw any Flashes or any obvious attempts to do their job or help me since I was getting beat up. We killed everything and as the last mob died I quickly typed out "Please use Shield Oath, not using it is making this way harder than it has to be. If you are tanking a dungeon it is best to be in Shield Oath."
So I wait and see if they respond while we are standing in the switch to open the boss room. As soon as the boss room opens the PLD heads for the boss and I was like...okay I guess they aren't even going to respond to me. I followed to the boss room but still no response and they started running into the boss area. So since the PLD sees fit to treat me like a NPC that's just there to heal everything and ignore me I just left and took penalty. They probably pulled the boss and died but I wasn't going to stay when people are ignoring assistance. If they treat me like I don't matter then I feel totally fine treating them the same way back.
If they had even responded even one time (with something not rude anyway) I wouldn't have minded helping them, but I am not gonna sit there and struggle to do my job worse than savage raiding because someone won't even bother to listen or respond to me.
I wouldn't get salty over smaller pulls... And if you kept quiet... why would he pull more? Very seldom do you get what you want when you don't ask ._. Not all tanks are comfortable with large pulling. And honestly, as a PLD, large pulls are pretty much purely dependent on DPS to dole out ALL the damage. Because we are stuck there spamming flash (which does no dmg) and the occasional CoS. We don't have our DoT, nor our DPS combo. Pre 60, us PLD's are extremely underwhelming. It's still possible to do large pulls, but honestly, it'll likely slow down the run unless the DPS are on top of their game (pre-60 that is).
Did you explain those mechanics to the team? My very first though in that dungeon in PF is to make sure everyone knows to stand in crystal light. Practically don't even need to heal at all when you are xD
I understand the frustration of a tank being in DPS stance instead of tank and not listening, but it also seems like you didn't really give the necessary info to the party as well. Maybe you did and just didn't mention it, but I feel as a mentor, your priority should be teaching and guiding the party with information and reasoning. I mean, you're a mentor... mentor's teach and guide. Saying "standing in the purple light of crystals will give you a huge defensive buff" and "watch out for the eye flying around, he will deal massive damage if you aren't in the crystal light" seem like pretty quick ways to guide. If they don't listen after that, then yea... can't really do much more. But it kinda seemed like you just expected them to know.
If he wouldn't listen to her suggestion about shield oath, the most basic part of pld tanking next to flash (which he also never used to help) what makes you think he would have followed something as complex as positioning?
You never know what people will listen to and what they'll ignore. And not saying they were wrong to be frustrated when not being listened to, but also think they made too many assumptions as a mentor in the first place. Mentor's are meant to guide and teach. Patience is kinda on the job description. While it's great to get those energetic players who will listen to what you say, you're going to run into twice as many who don't give a care. Teacher's can't exactly kick a student out of school because they don't listen (unless they literally did something wrong). Yes frustrating, but the other newbies had to suffer as well. In a normal DF, I'd say right call. In a mentor roulette, i'd say a bit quick to jump ship. She literally signed up and queued for a roulette with potentially inexperienced players.
It's not that I don't feel bad for the situation. It's that I think those who sign up to be a mentor need thicker skin. You literally signed up for helping out a few good students and a majority of those who don't care.
Cactuar has a large population.
For my trial roulette, battle on the big bridge with two tanks who did not want to tank. Both wars, one with defiance, one without. Defiance tank says "go?" in party, someone points out he has tank stance up, he responds, "yeah, defiance, so?" and does not pull. So, I pulled boss on DRG and he eventually took aggro. He stood around after, so I pulled mobs and lost two to healer aggro.. Tanks proceeded to do nothing while me and two other DPS killed the next group, then we returned to kill the first group. I had to pull the boss again, too...
Hit the leveling roulette with my level 17 arcanist, got Tam-Tara.
Our tank is... not the best. Facepulls everything, can't hold aggro. The healer tries giving him some advice but he doesn't respond. Finally healer gets fed up and leaves halfway through. Tank continues blundering around, I get myself killed trying to heal him, and at this point I realize... I'm a mf'ing arcanist. I don't need a tank.
One Topaz Carbuncle later, I am now the self-appointed tank AND healer and... it works! The marauder is happily DPS-ing away, the lancer just does her thing, and we even make it through the final boss without wiping. It may be an easy dungeon, but I'm not very good at arcanist so I felt pretty accomplished.
The funniest part was that we got a replacement healer when the boss was nearly dead, and all he got to do was stand outside the room and watch me and the lancer slowly slowly whittle down that last 10%, while the marauder lay around waiting for me to combat rez him. xD
I think there are many of us scattered across all servers, but we tend to go into hiding and playing solo or with close friends.
Which reminds me of one time where my sister and I queued up for the Level 50 dungeons roulette, I was healing and she was dpsing. Got paired with a tank and another dps who after exchanging greetings proceeded to speak in Spanish. My sister and I both were startled, but before asking were they were from, we simply butt in their conversation, replying in Spanish as well. I remember after that there was silence for like 20 seconds. Then the tank asks: 'You speak Spanish too?'. 'Yeah, we're from Mexico, we're sisters'. He joked about how he liked to confuse 'gringos' (americans) by typing in Spanish in the party chat xD We had a really fun run after that.
I still believe that was one of the best times I had while doing the roulette. They were from Gilgamesh, sadly :(
Ran final steps of faith yesterday for first time, first attempt we wiped but cleared it on second. I thought to myself, okay not too bad even though didn't clear first attempt but was surprised to see one of the tanks (after finished watching the trial ending cutscene) had left the message to the group "I hope you never clear EX mode". This wasn't a farm group, it wasn't a group with everyone having high ilvls (even I only was 1 ilvl above the minimum requirement), it was a DF group and it did get cleared on second attempt so I felt that comment was a little rude and out of place. Also ran sohm kali for first time same day and for 3 out of the 4 people there it was their first time, wiped once and cleared on second try but the amount of abuse and rude messages after just that one wipe was extreme to say the least.
Lvl 50 roulette. Tam Tara hard.
get a PLD with Sword Oath.
Party members let him know to switch to shield.
No repsonse.
3 of us collectively agree to let him die. Finally switches to shield.
Still no response from tank.
Continue the dungeon.
Cant hold aggro. >,>
Still no response.
Get to a boss.
Tank uses Sprint.
/facepalm
This is becoming more common, and I've got no idea why.
I've been running the Final Steps of Faith everyday at least twice to help clear, and I try to keep everyone motivated if we do wipe (usually at dps check after which I nicely let them know it's okay to lb the third add).
Yesterday I had a party that consisted of mostly new people, or people who hadn't yet cleared. We almost beat it on the first try, but it took us a couple more.
After beating it everyone was in such high spirits, and some commented on how cool this fight was. THIS is why I keep going back in ;o;
It's not always like this, I also had this one healer leave in one party after the first wipe, even though I had to raise HER more than once. Another where the party kicked a dragoon because 'he was the reason we weren't clearing adds', but I can say that wasn't all there was as we couldn't even bring 2 of them down. And many, many more. I still enjoy the fight and hope it never gets nerfed >:( People complain there isn't enough 'hardcore' content, when they don't want to deal with simple fights like this. We're fighting Nidhogg, it's not supposed to be easy to kill him and end a 1000 year war.
Oh, I meant that Cactuar has several large hispanic guilds, in addition to the random scatter of people. The one I'm in has about 150 members (and regularly does activity prunes for people who haven't logged in months), and pulls in new players from time to time. I also see Spanish in shout from time to time.
Not having official Spanish support (no language flag) I think makes it difficult. It's hard to organize any sort of community when Spanish posts get locked on the official forums.
I don't generally see much beyond basic greetings in DF, though I've had some pleasant PF surprises before~
i come home and try to enter Weeping City of Mhach because i still haven't gotten the drop I want. Apparently today is a bad day xD
I've now entered 5 instances in progress that the teams couldn't get past the 1st or 2nd boss and upon my entering, the vote abandon goes through T_T
I've been online for less than 30 mine!! Seriously, wtf.
Maybe you don't need to heal when the tank is using their proper Tank Stance, but this one wasn't. Even if they stood in the crystal they would have took massive damage and their gear was 10 ilevels lower than the dungeon we were in. It's easy to make claims like that when you weren't actually there experiencing it.
The tank honestly moved too fast through the dungeon for me to type much they would have killed themselves. I didn't mention everything in my post since it was already quite long and I felt it was unimportant, but since you feel I didn't do enough I'll explain.
By the time we got to the first crystal stuff I had no time to type it I had to heal otherwise the tank would die (before we got to the first one I didn't know they didn't know). The DPS knew to stand in the crystal so they weren't dying but the tank almost did because they stood just outside of it. I healed and kept them alive when we killed those I typed in "wait" in the chat quickly but the tank just ran off ahead. I had to sprint to keep up so they wouldn't die. I found this less important than them not listening to me trying to help them do their job so I didn't put it in the already long post.
After this the rest happened, way too fast for me to type to go into the crystal. I have to heal immediately. Have you personally played healers very often? You don't have time to type when people are getting hit really hard and when you take hate on 6 mobs and have to heal yourself. You have to make a decision; try your best to do your job with the circumstances or let everyone die while you type out they are doing it wrong. I chose to keep them alive so that I could maybe talk to them again after. The tank is controlling the flow of the dungeon, not me, therefore I can barely get time to type. I knew the switches you have to stand in them so I waited for that to get an opportunity.
The tank was not doing his job in the dungeon. I was tank as a WHM. So I tried to help them by explaining first the basics of tanking at 40+ not to mention after that there is no more crystal stuff just the boss and I had hoped they would stop so I could help and give them "the necessary info" as you call it. Which they never stopped long enough to let me. Even at the boss I got no response. If they had responded I'd be glad to help them as I said in my post. They just kept going, not letting me type much more than quick sentences. I then said their name in chat with a ? after it and still they ran off into the boss room.
You also made assumptions about me right in your posts. I did not assume what a mentor is. I know what a mentor is which is why I tried many times to get the tank to stop and to listen to what I was saying. I feel bad that the other DPS had to wait for a new healer but in my eyes this was the tank's fault for completely ignoring their healer who was struggling because they wouldn't stop or listen. Completely ignored me the whole time I was there.
You assume I am not patient. I have mentored players through EX primals which is a lot more difficult than a level 44 dungeon. You wanna know why I was successful? They gave me time to type out and explain mechanics and tried their best to listen.
I have queued mentor roulette and help mentor 5 people to a clear in Garuda EX. After wiping 8 times we cleared. I think I am just fine at helping mentor people. If they let me. If you really think I didn't try that's fine but you weren't there and you have a bad habit of making assumptions about me. If you felt the need to claim I am a bad mentor maybe you could have asked me to elaborate first instead of making claims.

My skin is just fine thanks see above ^. Also you cannot compare this to being a teacher in school. It's a MMO teamwork game not IRL education. So if there are students who don't care it ruins it for the rest unfortunately and there isn't anything we can do about this because half the time this student who doesn't care will make it impossible for the group to clear the content.
In my opinion you are part of the problem. You are quick to blame the mentor (even if they tried to make the run work) instead of putting the blame where it really belongs. In the hands of the student who doesn't care and expects people in a team effort environment to put forth 160% effort to make up for their lack of effort to even listen when a mentor is trying to help them. If they had answered me or even attempted to try to learn from me I would have slowly worked through that dungeon assisting them in any way I could. Yet you come and post that I am the problem. Shows why there are not many mentors actually bothering to help people. There is always someone quick to blame the mentor for anything and everything that goes wrong.
