It's Blizzcon 2k18 all over again.
Honestly some of the male Viera fanart -pics posted here made me wish for this situation alone* (female only).
Tho, Hrothgar does look like quickly modified Roegadyn, which is shame.
*And no, I haven't reported anybody, btw.
I am posting here as well in the hopes that the feedback is heard, but I do not think the decision to gender-lock each race was wise after ARR famously overturned what they did in 1.0 by making the races available and accessible for all genders. This seems like a giant step backwards in making these equal for all players, and it is tread upon territory to have yet another race where the females are elegant and attractive while the males are large, beastly, and muscular. I really hope they consider our opinions and create extra genders for both races.
Lmao you guys are crazy. They cheered after he was finished talking. The delay was because he was talking... It's called courtesy. Keep in mind it's Japan.
I have never been so disappointed and gutted about what is/isn't going to be included in a game before. Watching that keynote was like a bad case of whiplash, tbqh. Watching the trailer and ingame footage of the new areas was so hype worthy, then finding out Dancer isn't going to be a healer was disappointing, and then the lack of Male Vierra? And the Hrothgar, and lack of female with them? Seriously. I never played 1.0, but i am starting to understand how they felt back then with gender locks. Terrible. I have no motivation to keep playing FFXIV at the moment, and I have loved this game since 2.x days.
That's a great idea, and also... maybe just me, I'll re-watch stuff in a little bit, but... was the lightning a bit.. too harsh and when it wasn't that it was just too "close up" on Hrothgar reveal video? We all know FFXIV could use a texture resolution increase, so when things are so close you can see the pixels, and when farther away it was like the lighting seemed to be a bit too contrasted to me.
Maybe I need to check it again but I thought to myself "I bet it'll look better on my own PC in a normal distance/ambient setting". Did you feel that?
It's an incredibly bad idea to have a gender-locked race- if that was the case, why were male miqo'te added when lore-wise they're supposed to be born even less than the females? Please consider giving us male Viera and female Hrothgar too- Mithra and Galka had an outcry and this stance hasn't changed. We don't want to be limited in our options. It's also unfair that it goes into gender stereotypes of elegant and sexy women and buff and muscular men- sure, it's a fantasy, but this sort of tone-deaf take on what was an incredibly popular demand for years is really upsetting after the steps FFXIV took to stand out and be inclusive with Eternal Bonds, for one. It's very disappointing and I hope this will be reconsidered.
I want both, its absolutely baffling why Square would take this step back after 1.0 and fixing it in 2.0!
This just makes the original Viera reveal video feel even more voyeuristic and fanservicey! There is not reason for them to not have Male Viera and Female Hrothgar, They write the lore!
Posting here to show my disappointment in the gender locked races. We need male Viera and female Hrothgar.
This needs to be a priority in my opinion and should be released during the 5.x cycle, the earlier the better.
I would even buy 10 Fantasia if it would allow me to go male bunny. But guess I stay cat or figure out how to make females work.....
just sad rn
I don't know what to say beside that I am extremely disappointed. I've been looking forward playing as a female monster race for the past 4 years and now it was so close but *no*, more sexy object females and a male 'ronso' locked in gender as well. I just don't understand why.
I felt it too, though I suspect we'll see improvements made between now and Shadowbringers. I do hope that there's work on enhancing customisation across the board in the future for every playable race, though.
Twitter is something of an echo chamber in many cases, thus best taken with a pinch of salt.
SE did a great job, people were arguing about a beast race and a bunny race in the past. You got both now. You get a woman and a sexy beast. Why not be a Lala and have both at the same time?
It really is sad that they went for the safest and most boring choice. Did people asking for male bunnysuits tell them nothing? People have explicitly asked for male viera, and only vaguely mentioned they might entertain the notion of Ronso. I bet they'd honestly sell more fantasias if they had added bunnymen instead of them! Not to mention, the Hrothgar's facial features are slightly... off? So they really just feel like a half-assed consolation prize when instead they could've easily tweaked the lore to include a clan of viera that have more males or what-have-you if they were THAT worried about lore.
In fact, since they care so much about lore, I think nobody should be Dragoons anymore, or White Mages, since there's technically only two Azure Dragoons ever, and only one person aside the Padjal are allowed to use white magic. It is in fact ruining my immersion to see so many Ninjas around, too! /s
Who will actually play as a Hrothgar? And not as a joke? I'm asking this honestly. Even if you enjoy their overall looks (no judgement), their overall character model seemed very rough and slapdash, especially compared to Viera.
No male Viera = lore reasons
No female Ronso = lore changes

What can I say that hasn't already been said?
Just know SE, that I an SEVERELY unimpressed.
Also posting to say I'm disappointed that there won't be male Viera. I'm not a fan of the overly bulky male aesthetic, either Hrothgar or Roe. It just looks kind of strange to me, like every male of that race grew up in a gym and was forced to pump weights all day. If male Viera aren't going to happen could we at least get some variety? Maybe a male Roethgar who was a little lazy and somehow escaped from mandatory gym time?
Once again, stop implying nobody in Japan cares about misogyny and move on.
So, out of curiosity...how many of those upset over this intend to take their leave of the game and at what point do they intend to do so?

im ready for all the fun character ideas hrothgar has atleast
Genderlocking is simply step back. Looking forward to make female "ronso" alt with male viera retainer, eventually. Please reconsider this step to make genderlocked races. You already have tons of happy female roe and male miqo'te players, go ask how do they feel about their favourite race, SE.
Two factions have been screaming for races: Viera and people who wanted bestial. I think they chose to go with this because they had time to program one or one gender of each, so they took the middle ground and pissed off gender divides rather than style divides.
They were probably trying to be kinda smart, by pissing off the smallest segments of each clamoring section for a race.
Cause it would be like 1% Female buffcat and probably more male Viera, but like the same miqo ratio.
I'd be willing to wager on introducing the opposite genders next expac and this is why they made this decision. Keep screaming though, I'm sure they weren't already aware this would make people scream harder or something.
I'm not certain I'd go that far, since I've been deeply invested in the story up to this point.
But after today, I am VERY sorely tempted to just walk away.
A male Viera is a character I absolutely would have made an alt for. But I have no interest in playing as a large Roegadyn with bad posture.
Every time I see one of these races in Shadowbringers, I'll probably just roll my eyes, reminded of SE's poor decision. They will forever be "the badly designed race" in my eyes, no matter how much gravitas the game tries to place upon them.
If they honestly said they wanted to introduce the other genders later that would be another thing but right now it feels like the only real reason for them to do so would be the community backlash. If people weren't vocally upset they'd have no reason to go through the effort.
Limiting to the whole "Big Brute 'ugly' Muscle " Male and the "Pretty, cute, object" Female with with gender locked races just feels so old fashioned and gross!
The Ronso look super rough tho and well the Viera are Viera cute tall ladies. I like player choice and this really limits player choice in their Avatar. Some people dont really care about how their avatar look ((and that's 100% fair) but for others "glamour is the true endgame"
Its just disappointing to see it turn out this way.
I'm attempting to cancel my pre-order right this minute, actually. It's just I already claimed the earrings and minion so I am unsure if I will get banned for cancelling? I can't find info.... but yeah I'm not planning on continuing or playing at SHB launch either.
With that logic, Hyurans are actually Humes from Vanadiel, because they're totally being called that in The First!
Sarcasm aside, they were just showing that you can recreate characters from other FF games, doesn't make them officially Ronso (because they're Hrothgar). Besides, Fran was already in the game, unless you completely missed her in the Ivalice raids (and technically, she isn't even the same Fran as the FFXII one, despite having the exact same looks).
