So apparently it is not ok to wall2wall pull in Prae, according to a battle mentor sage I just dealt with on my alt drk. They didn't like I went full on wall2wall with a brd and smn, they wanted me to just park at the second pack, and then doubled-down on the nitpick for 'optimization' and 'I should optimize more for the sake of casters and ninjas'. Even though going to the wall is standard, smns have some instants from Titan and Garuda, and nins get Death Blossom as they go at that level. Brd can just Quick Nock/RoA all day.
But why would you do that? Parking yourself at the literal wall to get to the next set faster was something I found was much better than having to make the trip over once things were dead. Explosions from the wall where you take no damage to the face are the best, amirite?
Also apparently asking if they needed a hug since it sounded like they were hurt made them double-down even more on their oddball nitpick. It's...Praetorium. There's only a handful of packs and a Walking Simulator(tm) in there.
Well that's fair, I don't think it makes much difference in an Expert Roulette unless its a newbie tank, but it would be worthwhile, though there is a chance you miss some DPS in switching.
That said this is coming from someone who generally uses Adle on the boss mobs when a tank buster is coming.

Me: "Guys??"

To be fair, I had barely more HP than the healers. I'd had no gear drops in Syrcus (and Labyrinth gear is actually a lower item level than the second level 50 artifact set given for completing the job quest), and only enough Poetics to buy an axe. And I didn't want to just grind trial roulettes for tomes, since I'm already three levels over. Suppose I could just go unlock samurai or red mage for it....
Have you tried looking at PvP Gear? IIRC At lv 50, you can get ~ILV 110 gear with wolf marks. You can trade excess crystals from series malmstones at Commendation Quartermaster NPC for wolf collars, which can then be used to purchase Wolf marks from Collar Quartermaster.
It's not as good as Augmented Tomestone, but it's better than Sycrus gear for ILVL. It's many times more easier to obtain (and you can easily accumulate wolf marks from just doing daily Frontlines instead of actively farming for specific pieces in Alliance Roulette). That's my go-to method in the past when I was leveling up alt jobs and lacked tomestones to continue gearing my jobs. Works for ~lv 50 and ~lv 60 as a decent stopgap measure.
So I've been trying to gear an alt with p9-12n gear to help her get caught up, and have been spamming the floors for a good chunk of the day. I've seen a total of 6 scrolls drop and every time they've dropped, I've been rolling nothing but 2s, along with low rolls on chest pieces.

"i know i do this to give the dungeon more of a challenge lol"
I don't think they understand the word challenge at all.
Congrats! If memory serves, ive hit 3 lines exactly 3 times. And ive only missed 2 khloe books since they were added. Oh, and the first 3-line was under the old system where you got a specific item instead of a certificate. So one of my items was essentially useless - i believe it was a ninja top. I didnt get around to even unlocking ninja until 1 or 2 expansions later.

i recently came back to the forums (mistake, i know), and the last time i posted (before these more recent posts of mine all over the place) was in the original duty finder thread, about a time when i was running neverreap as dancer, on the last boss we wiped because healer got flung off, other dps got flung off, i was keeping myself and the pld up when curing waltz and shield samba were off cd, but i couldn't stay up indefinitely because of unavoidable aoe damage. we inevitably wiped at the boss being at like... 2%? because the pld refused to use clemency. at that time, i was promptly yelled at for suggesting the pld should have used clemency - that it was a waste of mp at that level.
when the boss was at 2%, and ONE USAGE OF CLEMENCY, NO MATTER THE MP COST, would have saved us a run.
funnily enough, i recently got into pretty much the exact same situation... as a pld. and one clemency let me secure the last couple of hits on the boss. and we won, without having to restart all the way over. weird how it wasn't a waste, huh?
anyway, i don't have any super specific stories, but i do have a lot more "kys disgusting lalafell" under my belt (the rate has gone up EXPONENTIALLY this year, naturally after i'm back from being burnt out, and am about to say screw it and unsub forever because the community has gotten so gross) and bards not using dots on trash packs.
in aetherfont (or really anywhere for that matter - i would ALMOST understand it, because why dot when mobs are dying SO FAST in almost every instance nowadays with people being so overgeared and the dungeons being so easy, you're not going to proc anything anyway, but this aetherfont run does sort of stand out for the reason that the mobs were dying. incredibly. slowly.)
yeah, i was getting almost 3 uses of assize at every single trash pack. wasn't fun.
but then there was the run in lapis (is lapis the one that ends with cagnazzo?) where i accidentally died to his pushback... i thought i was standing out of it... sorry for that one, healer. i... usually do that one with no mistakes, i... really have no excuse. nothing was distracting me on my end. i truly thought i was on the edge of it but i... think i had a combo up, stepped maybe a little too close to finish it and just... died. never died to it before. yeah.
edit: actually, i've remembered two more. a run of keeper of the lake with a... war tnk, i think? who acted like a trust npc. no words said, but every time a mechanic would happen, even one where he could feasibly keep attacking, he would just... stop until the mechanic finished. iirc, he was in raid-end gear. it wasn't bad, but it was just... odd. i mean like, yeah, i sometimes stop if i'm trying to remember a mechanic, but this was at every single mechanic in every single boss fight.
and then i had the tank in doma castle...
in shire gear.
who tried to do big pulls.
we never wiped. he did die once though, because i was simply out of cds and spamming him with shields + diagnosis when the shields were popping immediately was just not working. please don't do this. ironworks gear you can feasibly get to the vault on... i've actually healed the vault IN IRONWORKS (but i wouldn't really recommend that)... shire needs to be gone by bardam's.

So I continue to make terrible decisions on my vacation. I also want to make a point that WAR is not a hard tank to master, but apparently people find using the most basic of things on tanks to be SuPeR ExTrEmE.
I needed tomestones on an alt because more 90s, so I queued up for 50/60 roulette. I get a 3m in prog and what do you know? It's everyone's favorite Ala Mhigo dungeon! Apparently the healer had bailed at the start.
Mind you, I'm on sch. Had a DRG DNC and WAR for the rest of the party. Everyone knows WAR's RI is quite busted in self-sustain department, unless the warrior is extremely lazy. Well, I got an extremely lazy warrior of a tank.
How lazy? I asked them to large pull, they would only singluar pull, hit Rampart....and that was pretty much it. No Reprisal, no Vengeance, no Holmgang, no Raw Intuition, no Arm's Length, nothing. Except make themselves into a helicopter.
And since they're wearing the lvl 70 warrior artifact gear, they become rather squishy despite my MEATY SHIELDS. We manage to get to the first boss and clear it with some trouble (dps having some issues with basic rotations, but that's fixable with advice...right?)
Next area after the first boss comes the two tankbuster mobs. The warrior in question only pops Rampart, nothing else, and proceeds to go down faster than me binging on a case of soda after a stressful day at work. I try to sustain the other two dps after failing to get a raise on the tank out but the tankbuster mobs make short work out of the rest of us.
First picture is after the first wipe. Raw Intuition should be one of the biggest and quickest cooldowns a WAR should be using, along with Holmgang and the rest of them. You're level 76, you should know about your tank job's invuln and mitigation at this point. After the question and saying I'd be appreciative if they'd use them, they started to use them!
When they were completely unnecessary.
We get through the second boss with some trouble again (I chalk it up to the DRG not giving the Eye to the DNC), and the hallway after the second boss proves to be yet another repeat of the first hallway after the first boss. The war cannot seemingly wrap their tiny Miqo'te brain around how to unga-bunga properly and they eat dirt again, with my Swiftcast having been used earlier to give them another meaty shield. So I end up spending more mp on sustaining myself and the other sole dps that lived (DNC had gotten womped fast) and the DRG only lived due to Second Wind + fairy usage. The tank remained on the floor waiting for the raise when it would've been smarter to simply respawn like the DNC did.
If I had gone WHM, it probably wouldn't have made a difference anyway.
So we clear our way to the final boss, and of course Zenos is looking disapprovingly at us due to not having such T H I C C glamour and booty as he, and though it was a mighty battle, our Whomp and Stomp came out on top. We roll for loot and I notice the Miqo'te is on the floor playing dead.
I ask her if she wanted another tip on War. Apparently this offended her lack of unga-bunga self and she replied with a deadpan 'Nah' before sprinting out of the exit. She was in clear need of help on how to Unga-Bunga, but the way she handled herself the entire dungeon made me realize that she was probably one of the laziest warriors I've come across this patch lull.
If the warrior in question comes here and recognizes themselves in this story, I hope you step in dog poop and then on Legos. Please read your tooltips and stop being incredibly lazy. Go with Trusts if you're going to have that sort of cattitude toward your fellow players.
yes, msq content is still faceroll. that said, if you're going to silently sit in all of livia's aoes - i don't know why, to test me as a healer? because i'm a lalafell? i expect both at this point, and i don't play either of those games; i'm not stupid either, i suspected something was up when you tilted yourself TOWARDS thermobaric strike on the second boss, the proximity aoe one, not that it does any damage even if you're standing on it i think, but still made me 눈_눈 - i'm going to let you die and let the drg tank for a minute, and i'm not going to feel bad about it.
i still keep finding brds that don't dot on mobs. is this just not done anymore? i got brd to 90 and then never touched it again. as said in my previous post, i truly do get it if things are just dying so quick that there's no point. but when things are going kind of slow... why wouldn't you?
I'm a bit guilty of this. Normally I'd dot one or two of the mobs as songs now go off of a different timer instead of poison procs and I now get the benefits of my own songs, but I've not had an issue where things were dying that slowly unless my co-dps was alseep/afk.
I still miss my machine gun Rain of Arrows though.
fair enough - i usually don't even move, or, if it's literally at my side, scooch a bit to the opposite side but i can see why doing it that way would keep uptime. i don't think standing in all of livia's aoe infinite reach mess helps any uptime though, since she's untargetable.
this explains things then, thanks. i solely leveled brd through fates because i don't like it right now and never took it into higher level dungeons, so there ya go.
Not a duty finder story, but I don't know where I should put this otherwise.
I finished my 630 Blacksmith Splendorous Tool (may have spelled this wrong) a few days ago and was like: ok time for some white scrips farm for the next scrip purchased material, then do some prep work for the other materials and do the next 2 steps easy like the ones before.
Well today I realized the next steps require expert crafts, my first thought was: pah w/e I just get HQ mats and make it work.
Moments later it saw that my plan doesn't work since you can't prep HQ mats for expert recipe's...
Now I'm sitting here in my lousy melded purple scrip gear, wondering if I can even get to the basic threshold to turn them in lol
Sometimes I think I'm a bit naive after I finished the last two steps of the fisher tool in roughly 2.5 hours I didn't think the crafter ones would be much harder XD
Sorry for the random rambling, just felt like posting it somewhere :)
I keep finding tanks in duties that either won't use defensive cooldowns or get upset when I ask them to use defensives. Just dropped from a lvl 50 duty where the DRK would barely mit/mit near death and stutter pull in Hullbreaker Isle, and would barely survive pulls despite my sch shields.
When asked, they got snippy with a 'bah humbug' 'I was' 'my gear ain't 90' I had to tell them of the other mitigations they get at 50 before eating the penalty. I have a feeling they've been told before but didn't want to realize it until it's been shoved into their face.
PSA to all tanks out there: you have Reprisal, Arm's Length, Rampart, Low Blow as your Role skills. Specific tank skills include: Sentinel, Shelltron, Shadow Wall, Vengeance, Thrill of Battle, Camouflage, Nebula, Aurora, Holmgang, Living Dead, Hallowed Ground, and everyone's favorite Superbolide at level 50 or below. Their cooldown timers are relatively short, so don't reserve them just for bosses as trash packs are FAR more dangerous than bosses are.
If that DRK from Behemoth is reading this, READ YOUR TOOLTIPS. Do not allow yourself to get carried like that, as you'll only end up developing bad habits that make life a living hell for us healers or even the rest of your party in the later dungeons you'll queue for. I'd hate to see you in Holminster Switch and up, because of not only that lack of mitigation but that attitude's going to get you kicked from duties.
We healers cannot do our job of helping out with dps if you're going to refuse to use your mits or barely use them.
Did I ever tell you of the time in cutter’s cry’s that a whm refused to heal?
Now I don’t mean they were terrible at healing or that they were new and didn’t know better - no I mean they’d only use attacking spells and zero (not even a regen) healing spells were used
To add to this absolutely shocking state of affairs they were in full ilvl 660 gear complete with Burger King crown, ofcourse in true ffxiv style we all hinted that maybe, just maybe the whm should throw a regen on the tank once in a while, especially with the larger pulls but nope, whm told tank to mit harder and that was that - so after we all took turns tanking and while the summoner was spamming it’s healing spell for that sweet 0.001% health gain we eventually cleared cutters (by sheer luck really)
Was wild times - i can’t get over it, some of you may have heard it already, I’ve been telling NN and alliance raid groups ever since so if we’ve played I’d have definitely mentioned it
So... I'm doing the Aery on an alt (I'm SCH) and WAR giga pulls, which is fine. He uses immunity and drops to 1, and because I am me, I spam two lustrates on him because... you know, 1 HP.
The following ensues (I'm paraphrasing, and shortening the exchange):
Tank: You probably don't play WAR at all, or you'd know we have a ton of healing xD
Me: Yeah, I know. (Apparently I crossed the line with this one)
Tank friend: Well, you could be using that time to DPS
Me: I don't know how you play, so I'm still gonna shield you and heal you.
Tank: You really should listen to advice.
Me: I don't trust a PUG, and everyone seems to want something different, so I'll just do my thing.
Tank Friend: You should listen to good advice.
Tank: I'm just gonna blacklist them.
Tank Friend: The attitude annoyed me, with the "I know" and all.
Tank: I guess it's my fault for expecting the sprout to keep up with the mentor (Dude had a Burger King crown, though only the combat one)
Other DPS: Can you guys stop?
Me: I'm trying to play, you guys keep typing.
They didn't say another word for the rest of the dun. I've never had a tank yell at me for giving him two Lustrates when he's 1HP, so that was fun.
Would have done the same to be honest. You can't trust PU just because they have a specific class. Also, why is he complaining about you not DPSing more trash ? It's not like 1 or 2 AoE from a healer is gonna change anything in the end... Trash mobs doesn't come with enrage. That tank really need to touch some grass.
Apparently, the WAR couldn't reciprocate the knowledge on other's class thing, since the DPS loss from using Aetherflow stacks on Lustrate rather than on Energy Drain is laughable, specially on trash mobs. If he's that worried about people healing him during his immunity, he should use a macro to warn the healer (like I do with DRK to let healers know they have to let me activate Walking Dead).
Also, being disrespectful to sprouts (during mentor roulette, of all things) sure should be grounds for revoking the crown. You are supposed to help newcomers (let's assume for a moment you were an actual new player and not an alt), not act high and mighty towards them. Only sprouts who don't deserve any consideration are those who are dead set on not learning on things that are VERY basic knowledge because their egos make them assume they're free to play like the want, even at the expense of the rest of the other players or themselves, which is the very definition of stupidity. And even then, the best way to deal with them is to straight up disengage from the conversation and blacklist them (which is something I've had to learn the hard way)
Best example: one summoner I had the misfortune to meet at Aurum Vale who was very adamant on "helping" me by spamming Physics very frequently, not realizing that, with that "help" she was only making things harder for me. The more Physics she casted the longer the enemies would last, the more damage I would have to heal (which was specially stressful for the first and the last boss, because of their ramping dots) and the least resources I would have to keep up with the damage the party took... all for a heal that healed less than a Diagnosis cast. But did she want to stop using that spell? Nay. Even after asked twice. My mistake was trying to argue with her and not dodging straight away.
-----------------------------------------------------
Another tale for the post:
Doing the A6N, the tank dies to solo tanking the dual blaster from Brawler, which is supposed to be soaked by the whole party, I noted that the boss has to be turned towards the raid when it's loading double blaster only to get some RDM get uppity and trying to correct me. Having learned my lesson on disengage I just said "Sure thing, you're right" and decided to leave it at that. Still, I did feel vindicated when, out of curiosity, i checked the FFXIV wiki and found out that, indeed, it is a party stack mechanic.
------------------------------------------------------
Last but not least: Why is that EVERY time there is tower mechanics or soaking orb mechanics that can be perfectly taken solo there's always more than one going after them? Not that it's going to cause a wipe most time, but it's a gripe I've grown to have, specially every time I get dragged into Nabriales trial, where people go after the orbs en masse, even when they're about to take more than 1 stack of the debuff, or even rush to tank the meteors that only the tanks need to soak. Unless they DO need to be taken as a group, which is not very often, it's just taking unnecessary damage and, sometimes, the very marker is telling you that it doesn't need any more people there.
While grinding for Causality with a friend recently, we had a string of subpar healers that just wouldn't do any damage, and one of them kept casting Cure on me. I saw a couple of Holies (Holys? casts of Holy) go out, then she just spammed Cure whether I needed any healing or not. Was she fishing for a Cure II proc? Baffling. We were in The Lunar Subterrane and (unsurprisingly) the aforementioned WHM had a Burger King crown. Eh, whatever.
On a better note, while running an expert with two company mates the other day we were grouped with a SMN who was excellent. We got out of the duty and took care of other business for about ten minutes before queuing up for a Level 90 roulette, which took over seven minutes to pop... and we got the same SMN, who was once again excellent. The Duty Finder works in mysterious ways.
To the WAR tank I just had on an alt that ran Paglth'an on my SCH:
You were amazing with the mitigation usage. You also did the huge unga-bunga pulls, and I barely had to heal you because of your wonderful mitigation usage. The salve for my healer soul that I've needed for the past two weeks.
Twelve bless ye.
Thought it would fit right here. Wiped at double Malboro room in AV because they didn't use a single mitigation (no Rampart, no Reprisal, no Shadow Wall, no Arm's Length)
https://media.discordapp.net/attachm...ality=lossless
i dunno man. i like to think i'm p good at lapis manalis. 99% of the time i don't get hit by anything. but this run, i had at least 2 vuln ups on the first two bosses at any given time. got none on cagnazzo though, which is good because... my memory isn't the best, so usually his zoom all over the place gets me at least once. and i've been failing his pushback + bubble aoes recently which... sucks... because i thought i had those down... used to not even blink at them... i dunno. i just sucked today. i was not at my best. i swear i know that dungeon.
anyway, the old thread allowed pf tales... and i just want to say. there's a bait thread going around about rp ads being obstructive but you know what i find worse? the MULTIPLE ads asking for unsynced CARRIES. not unsynced glam runs. not unsynced blu mage spellbook stuff (idk if this is a thing, i have yet to bother with blu). unsynced CARRIES. that is the word they unashamedly use. as if they won't 100% hinder someone if they ever get that duty again in roulettes.
Just a normal World of Darkness run lol
https://i.ibb.co/rZFjkRY/ffxiv-28022...14-948-jpg.png
Lol I swear I was on that one last night.
I was clicking on the Aetherflow, and looked back up and suddenly half the party was on the floor. I was like... wtf? I never have to Rez in World of Darkness what the hell? Was hilarious.
Though probably not half as hilarious as the Rhidorana Lighthouse one I did recently both healers were cutscene newbies. Lol I give them an A for Effort, but lol... you can imagine, being... well... Rhidorana. I totally should have comed that RDM on our team though before he left, I think me and them were the only ones keeping everyone upright. We were at Yiazmat and I had already blown my quickcast, so I was hard Ressing (SMN), and the healers had gone down for like the 20th time. And then bingo right at that time one of the other teams brought over the stackup marker and I was already at a sliver... and boom.
Lol my last words were... well guys they finally got us all....
