Im just really REALLY hoping the dungeons have specific BGM, or at least a general dungeon BGM.
To those worried (or complaining :P) about Patch 1.18's Dungeons:
Just wanted to provide a little perspective to those already bashing Yoshida-san for NEW CONTENT (for Mid-Level and High-Level) before you've even seen it...
Seriously, at what point did Yoshida-san say, "I'm making a WOW clone"? Yes, he said it may be something that's "*probably* similar to dungeons in other MMOs" but if you read the rest of the context of the interview it's far from him saying it's a 'WOW Clone.'
Yoshida-san has mentioned in multiple interviews that he wants to recapture the FINAL FANTASY FEELING. How you can start bashing him is beyond me. Here are some specific quotes from Yoshida-san in various interviews. On the Battle System:Yoshida: "We're not looking to copy what other MMOs are doing...He then goes onto to talk about the Instanced Dungeons, and the quote you're overreacting to:
And with that, we want to get back to the roots of the original Final Fantasyesque jobs like Dragoons and White Mages. So we're trying to figure out how to get that to that new type of system."
Yoshida: "It would be tough to say which it will be closer to, but if you had to say one, it will probably be similar to dungeons in other MMOs. But right now because we're working on the changes to the battle system at the same time, we're going to make something that can follow the progression--the evolution--of the battle system. Those instances will change over time as well. How does this sound like it's going to be a "WOW clone" that you're complaining about? The very core of the game is being heavily looked at to be "More Final Fantasy" like. The Dungeons will FOLLOW the Combat System and be designed around that (i.e., the core of the game is more Final Fantasy like and the Dungeons will be, too).
Because a lot of this stuff is going to be high-level, end content, we want to make sure that the battles all have situations where you have to plan out the battle, have the tactics to defeat it--not only defeat it, but pop it as well. It's something that will be the high end, the hardcore content."

And he states he wants TACTICS to the fights, yet you're complaining already (without having even seen it) about lack of difficulty and challenge? Huh?
And for those that bemoan that it's all instanced, all the time, that's not true:Yoshida: "We're going to make a lot of bigger battles, where lots of players will be involved in these large-scale battles. In these large-scale battles there will be multiple parties on the field. If you have a system where only one party can claim something, then other parties won't even be able to come in and help. Or to get them to come in and help, you have to have another special system to allow them to come in and help, and it just becomes to complex. So we want to have a system where it's easy to have another team to come in and help someone that's maybe in trouble."Here's another quote from Yoshida-san from another interview he did with Gamasutra:
Yoshida: "So, our top priority is making the game that is very Final Fantasy, something that we can be proud of and something that the players will come in and they will love this Eorzea. It's an Eorzea that we can be proud of and the players will enjoy."I started a thread on asking Yoshida-san and the team where the major changes were and high level content last month (so I'm not just stating this as a "rabid fan"). This new Letter from the Producer IX is just AWESOME! :) It's giving us brand-new content for Rank 30 and Rank 50 players, covering the majority of the player base, new Quest Hubs that NONE OF US KNOW what it's going to be like, and the first major changes to the core Battle System, which as quoted above, Yoshida-san says he wants it to be more "Final Fantasyesque."

We don't know what the Quest Hubs will be yet. We don't know what the Dungeons will be like, but let's try and stay POSITIVE before you call for his head and just incite a flame war claiming he's making a "WOW clone"?
If you want to stay pessimistic, more power to you.
I'm always hoping for the best, and this new update / letter has given me renewed hope. :D
I can't wait to see the new content soon!
After reading this last letter, there was one thought that immediately crossed my mind:
Why are they adding camps that serve as quests hubs instead of using the absolutely useless hamlets that are scattered all over? Do they have other plans for these? It makes no sense to throw all this content into new locations when the current ones are already starved for content.
That's one thorough rebuttal.
And with evidence and sources to boot!
Exactly. The quest hubs look like small campsites or outposts for the most part.
EDIT: What if hamlet defense coincides with all this ominous weather/prophecies? I mean if I was on the XIV team, and wanted to make some game changing world event, I wouldnt let the cat out of the bag before the event occurred. That and the entire landscape isnt going to be charred from this, thats for sure.
Sooooooooo, quest hubs yea?

Not really that lively looking, but best I could find for an example.
While I get your point, BCNMs are not a great example. I was being left out of BCNMs because I was not the "right" class for them when WoW was first released. <,<
Anyway, I still don't understand the amount of crap thrown at the devs. Yes, the game is not changing overnight, but at least we should recognize that this is a colossal task they are taking up.
Granted, they won't hear a peep from me save for one thing and one thing alone. That being hybrid classes being stuck doing pure support instead of having various roles available to them in group play. And that's only because I am serious when I say I won't be able to stomach a second coming of the refresh-whore Red Mage. Even then, my ire would be aimed at their class balance guy, not at Yoshida himself.
Why is it that everyone thinks dungeons were created and solely WOW? do your research realized wow was not the first MMO to do dungeons. FFXI had dungeons, people seem to have forgotten BCNM's, Salvage, Dynamis (raid), Sea (raid), Einharjar. No one complains about those and say they are OMFGBBQSAUCE THEY ARE COPYING WOW!!!! STOP RUINING FFXI! Now that that is done, Stop judging things that havent been released yet. As the the saying goes don't Knock it till you try it., If you don't like it GTFO and stop bitching about content that isn't released yet, while the rest of us look forward to the new content and the what will be slow, THOROUGH process to fix and improve FFXIV.
Yeah nothing to convince people to calm down like a rage post.
I guess people are "scared" of the dungeons being WOW like because Yoshi saying "... it will probably be similar to dungeons in other MMOs".
In the same interview he however also said they were focusing on making the game very much Final Fantasy.
I'm excited for the dungeons, not so much for the wait, lol.
also dunegeons have been a staple of offline rpgs, and of course dungeon crawlers since they were created, i dont know why going online means we shouldnt have levels designed with monsters a setting, a theme, and a boss in there as a main means of entertainment, when it was one of the more entertaining things about rpgs.
I also think they should make dunegons not so linear, in that there should be secret special stuff discover, maybe some story elements, or hidden bosses/areas etc.
they should also add more content to overworld things, including NMs you pop and whatnot, big super monsters that everyone can join into fight /open missions.
other things, for replayability quests/missions with time rewards, performance judgements, survival elements.
qft and agreement. on top of offline, Goes all the way back to D&D paper RPG, omg a dungeon with minibosses a story and a final boss. Zelda with the dungeons with a miniboss and a Final boss with gear rewards and final reward. Hmmmmm did Zelda follow the WoW formula into its offline format? oh wait....
Garliage is not that different from something like Shattered Halls. Well, garliage had some (up until WotG came out) obscure reason for existing, barely had anything memorable about it content-wise and was nowhere near supportive of dungeon crawling. That's where it different from the stuff seen in WoW.
Cant they have instanced dungeons within all access dungeons? Regardless it wont be anything like WoW except for the fact that they may be instanced.
And put leves in the instanced dungeons. Rank 50 special fractions leves to bring the endboss out would be best.
This should make the dungeons to 80% not very WoW like ^^
I highly doubt that... with FFVII and FFXIII combined SE has made more money than WoW (The Retail Game Discs) in Sales.
Not to mention they had tons of other great selling games, FF10, and 9... the list don't stop. Also, once they release their games, they don't have to keep updating them, adding content, have a "HUGE" development team that they pay quite a lot for. Monthly fee's cover this, and give them profit I'm sure. But they haven't earned more than the Final Fantasy Franchise.
Letter looked good to me. If you think there's anything overwhelmingly negative about it, I don't really see how you can infer that from what Yoshida wrote about. There's just not enough concrete info to make any certain judgements.
I'm sad we're gonna have to wait until June.
LOL @ the don't post wrong translations comment. Don't look at me, all mine were correct...I even tried to correct the wrong ones that other people posted. <_<
Kiara, I couldn't have said it any better. Thank you. :D
Have to agree, got caught up in the 'worry' myself, but thanks to Kiara I'm much happier again. Thanks muchly Kiara! Can't wait for the future Combat System, the current one is fine but it does often lack that spark that keeps you involved. Hopefully it is enjoyable enough to make combat feel less of a chore than it does now.
That wasn't the case in my experiences.
Reason to do so. I don't want to have to "create my own fun". I want to fight through a dungeon where a boss that moves the story forward awaits at the end. Come on dude, have you played other MMOs?
Reading through some of these posts I had an idea for a possible solution for Instanced Dungeons vs Open Dungeons:
Maybe they could make the actual zone/dungeon open for anyone, but the actual content instanced much like the Guildleves are. So, for example, say you had a series of quests that you had to complete before facing the boss. You could go to the dungeon, pop your quest, and all your actual quest mobs would pop but only your party could fight them, but other groups could watch.
