Wow, a bunch of whiners on this thread. It's the most powerful weapons on the server. Did you think it would be easy or simple? Well, it is simple compared to the Mythic weapons in XI...
What is this bullsh*t?!Quote:
1 - Earn 25,000 seals and buy the key item (Acceptable/Makes sense/takes "effort")
2 - Obtain Inferno Seal x3, Tremor Seal x3, Vortex Seal x3 from Rank 2 Hamlet (gold chest requiring 60K+ scores) (Hey! people are not doing Hamlet because the drop rates are too low! lets include hamlet into the relic quests!) - RNG event, the usual unlikable nonsense that people complain about because it rewards the luck. Unacceptable!
3 - Get a class weapon. (Uh oh! classes are unpopular now that jobs are in games! lets add class spesific junk! UH OH! that didn't help at all since jobs are STILL better than classes! lets add the useless weapons into the relic quest!) Alright... this isn't bad... you either farm gil, materials or whatever and get one of those weapons. Acceptable challenge.
4 - Double meld two Tier IV. More RNG... I think SE did this to punish us for complaining about the materia system.
Bad bad bad.
5 - Kill chief NM of one specified Stronghold. A challenge! been so long since I've seen one of these! Good.
8 - Gather 3 Materials from 6th Chest available at end of AV and CC. More RNG!!! Enough of this!
Not everyone will get one, OK, sure. They're powerful weapons after all.
However, if three out of the six current known steps involves, in essence, playing the luck game and winning against the random number generator, then the devs have failed in anything remotely promoting "challenge."
Even XI's relic/mythic weapons didn't focus this hard on sheer, dumb luck.
lol double melding is in no way hard too, it's .. the only grindy part really is only the primal seals.
That and it looks like more of a long term goal. Everyone always complains about people having 7/7 within a week. I doubt we'll see that lol. While I'm not a big fan of how RNG heavy it is, it does basically end up as forcing players to prioritize and really strive for these weapons.
pretty much
i mean its not like i am coming in here saying it isnt bad cuz ill have it easy myself
i have made 0 progress in getting these at all, but after having actualy donr relics myself in 11 and other long term items in other games, i fully understand how this really isnt that bad
the entire point is to not make it easily acessible to complete quickly to everyone, and with that, they have succeeded
anyone who says luck and challenge dont mix are compltely wrong, the problem with "hard fights" being the only requirement to anything, is that once those fights are "solved" and guides put out to do them easier, they are no longer a challenge at all and then everyone has the items in them
add in a luck factor and several steps like this, and it makes it more of a challenge to take the time to do it, time is also a factor in challenge wether people want to accept that or not
The problem I have is this does not reward loyalty, it doesn't reward dedication, it rewards dumb luck.
I could go do 30 hamlets and get all 9 seals, I could 1st time double meld, and be on my happy way to my relic. Someone else could do 1000 Hamlets to get 9, and loose several weapons over trying to double meld, that guy spent more time playing, spent more gil, and worked a lot harder to get the same thing i cake walked.
In XI, it was a long progress but you were always guaranteed progress. You go into Dynamis you wont come out empty handed, you'd get at least some currency to plod you along. In XIV Relic you go into hamlet "hoping", that the computer lords dont shit on your day and keep giving you the 0.001% chance, and then later hope they dont break your weapons.
Its all dumb luck. No part of is "Hard" , its easy because you have literally no control over your progress, since it heavily relies on RNG.
Maybe some people are fine with that, but i don't like it personally.
This is not "Not easy" this is "Random".
FFXI Relics were "not easy" and they weren't based around a random number generator.
What we have here:
Step 1 - takes effort.
Step 2 - Random number generator.
Step 3 - Only hard if you started the game this week and don't have 3 million Gil on you.
Step 4 - Random number generator.
Step 5 - A challenge.
Step 6 - Random number generator.
Taking the "not everybody should have them because unique snow flakes" out of the equation. We have this quest where half the steps are based on luck.
Can we get a real challenge for once?
They could have based the whole steps on beating very hard bosses, and you'll still feel special (I know that matters to some people) since not everybody will be skilled enough to win and get the relics and it'll be fun/challenging/shows that you're a decent player.
Instead we got 2 steps that's somewhat of a challenge, 2 that you just need to throw money at, and 2 where you repeat the same thing and hope for different results.
They should just make the seal drop guaranteed if you have over 60k points, and like 10% if you have over 50k points.
People seriously need to stop confusing luck and difficulty, it's getting annoying. There's nothing hard about doing the same easy thing dozens of times until Lady Luck smiles upon you and decides you can get your drop. It just makes you hate doing the content. I thought they'd learned this with Garuda's tokens, at least you were certain you were going to get something eventually and you had a rough estimate of when it would happen.

Guide started, need Screen Shots of the npc's and chest conditions.
What you get

RAWR guides
With XI's weapons, they took longer, but you always had a sense of progression. I know this first hand.
With XIV's weapons, they have the potential to take longer due to 50% of the questline being a diceroll.
I have already said I have no issue with spending months on a quest to complete the best weapon in the game. If it comes to the point where one guy finishes his weapon in a week due to being insanely lucky, whereas another guy is still stuck on the Hamlet stage after months of losing to the RNG, it's then we have a problem.
The biggest problem I have with this, and probably the biggest crapshoot of them all is whether or not the hamlet you need the seals from is in level 2. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't it need to be atleast level 2 to have a decent shot of getting even 1 seal let alone 3? The biggest issue at this point is we are relying on the community, because getting 2-3 millon freaking gathering points is a ridiculous task for a linkshell to try and do for a hamlet they are focused on. I don't know if this will pique interest or not, but atleast on gungnir we seem to have this horrible trend where everyone saves all of their mats up for a week then trades them all in to try and the top 20 so we end up with 6 hamlets below a million gathering point and once a week have one thats level 2 with about 11 million.
This trend is probably going to be even worse now that we are potentially going to need a top 20 provisioner present to even get the gold chest.
Now, now guys... come on.
This isn't for everyone. Not everyone's going to get this weapon. I understand if you personally are upset because you don't WANT to do this content and you were looking forward to it. It's disappointing to you personally because you want to get a weapon the way you wanted to, but you have to understand.
This is 1.0. They're NOT going to add the sort of long term content a la XI. This is not a long term game.
Would you rather they had waited until 2.0 to release the weapons? Can you imagine the uproar if they had made that announcement?
Also, this won't be the only long term high powered weapon in the game. I'm sure they'll come out with another set of weapons you can get over a long period AFTER 2.0. This is just the start.
If you don't want to do it this way, fine. They usually nerf the difficulty after a while anyway. Hahahaha!
POSTSCRIPT: I don't even feel comfortable calling this AF weapons. These weapons are just the beginning. They're the first JOB-SPECIFIC weapons, but they're not the be-all and end-all of end game.
So true, so true, stupid moron current & past ff14 developers!
Anyway my opinion on these weapons is yoshi-p you can take them all, polish them up nice & shinny, turn them side ways & shove them up your roody poo candyass!!!!! there are no drop rates, double melds are dumb luck with a high emphasison DUMB!
& that doesn't even address the probliem's with leveling the crafting jobs just to craft them!
& not to menchion the lack of quests for seals & solo ways to get decent seals. (solo 1900 seals natourious monsters since they give the most seals = 3hours 40 mins & 38 anima yes i times & cheaked yesterday)
& the few other probliems i cant be bothered menchioning.
But i'll give you a hint it involves: AV & CC & that not many people actuly want to do hamlet
People aren't complaining because it's a long term goal, every MMO needs those obviously. They're complaining because SE seemingly thinks it's a good idea to reward players based on luck and not on effort and/or skill. Granted, the more effort you put in it, the more chances you have of actually having a favorable RNG, but players have the right to be pissed off when they produce said effort and get NOTHING in return if they're unlucky.
Scarface Champion is currently standing in Ul'dah with his double meld Astrolabe. And 2 mins later sum1 next to him blew up an astrolabe +1 on double meld. Sweet jesus.....
that's just some crazy shit.....that was a very bad move SE. You gonna make many ppl who love the game to hate it. I am one of them...
So. I've got 16,186,221 gil right now. Is anyone kind enough to sell me a double melded mailbreaker for a reasonable price? ^^; Or just tell me how much you want and I can decide how many hours I have to farm for gil ><;;
This is really disappointing. I thought SE was moving away from RNG 0.1% drop rate content and instead we get this. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come because it's not looking too good for 2.0's endgame at this point.
These arguments/discussions seem to go on a lot. It happened with ifrit weapons, followed by dark light bodies and now artifact weapons. There is a clear line that divides (for lack of a better word) hardcore players who put in hours of play time to getting best in slot. (i dont think of myself as hardcore)
As soon as the first few people get them on your particular server it will be a: "well they have more time to play" "its not fair." "the reward system is skewed." "your LS must really like you"
Yes I agree double melding is a crap shoot but not impossible, getting a NM drop in a party of 8 on three separate occasions is another crap shoot. BUT that is what makes the item valuable and prestigious. its shows you put in the hard work to get an item.
The thing is with this game you don't NEED to have best in slot to excel at your class.
further more you have tons of time to gather the mats you will need for these weapons.. hopefully you are not trying for all 7. If you are ... God speed my Eorzean friends.
How long do you think it will be before people are making posts about how they have broken 23 of their class specific weapons trying to double meld them.
Whoah....not white knighting but, maybe you should take your issues somewhere else?Quote:

1) Why are you concerned with getting gear that's meant for Party play, if you apparently play solo?
2) What's the issue with crafting?
3) Materia Melding show's you a percentage of success, how is that RNG?
4) Why are you soloing NM's for GC seals? Anyone can join Caravan, and low level Caravan is soloable with a 50. (800 Seals Per/h)
Noone will take you seriously with extremely poor grammar, and an obvious lack of knowledge/research of the game.
I am definately hoping for Difficulty + Continuous Progression > Luck/Grind for the future content. Materia Melding aside (because that was meant to be a Gil Sink/ High Risk practice)

If this guide is legit, which it could very well be. People gonna have to start joining up if they want this stuff. Hey if the Grand Companies can work together, so can everyone else.
I have melded over 700 items, it never really goes beyond 10 for double meld, Let alone 23. 16-20% is a big number.
Yeah, this is so sad. I don't know who told the devs that we enjoy getting stuff by luck and not cause of our effort. It's like telling them, you know, you have a 0.00001 chance you are going to be paid this month for all the 10 hours a day you've worked this month. :) yes, I know ...you mut really enjoy that....we do it for you... lol
Attacking someone because of their English skills is below the belt. Not everyone speaks perfect English and I doubt half the schooled children in North America speak it either.
I believe the main point (at least I) being made is that someone could get lucky with the RNG and get everything 1/1. Great. You didn't spend alot of Gil. What about those people who don't have alot of Gil or have bad luck? Should your 5mil in spending somehow be worth more than my 20mil (such may be the case). I don't think so. But I'm sure we will have some tarded folks posting and running around talking about how l33t they are for spending so little even though their skill as a player had nothing to do with it.
These weapons (at least 50% of the questing so far) has nothing to do with skill. It's about about luck. So "in before" all the up-the-butt horseshoes.
Changed my mind since I have a friend who doesn't mind crafting me some Avengers.
Then thought, at least the materia is cheap for manathirst. HAHA as if. People ramped up the prices from 5k to 90k for Teir 4
Good thing I wasn't attacking then **whew.
When you risk a 2Mil piece of gear with melds and it goes BOOM. That money is gone. Unless the RNG makes it appear in someone elses pocket...which then I haven't been that lucky yet :-)Quote:
The only gil sink here is the 100K item you need to buy from the NPC. The rest of the gil just gets passed around through the economy.
It's true, there's so many types of players to accomodate.Quote:
people really just dont like the idea of time investment on here
1) Limited time to play
2) Lack of skill
3) Very Skilled
4) Tons of time to play
5) RMT's
6) Botters
7) New to MMO's
Some people want to have everything with little effort
Some people want "more" to put effort towards
Some people just wanna sell Gil
...and for 7, they just don't even know what they want, but if the forums state something, then it must be true.
Just blew 15m on 12 Savage Might IV. Good luck to me!

I could go into how long it would take to get those jobs to 50 if you want truly free crafting (some people might charge)
Step 6:
Materia? If you want free you have to spirit bind. If you want to spirit bind you have to craft gear. Crafted gear means farming mats... need I go on?
MASSSSSIVE time sink.
Step 7:
Free
Step 8:
Time, not sure if you need speed runs.
Step 9:
