I still see alot of Bunny Girls in Open World...but not nearly as much in Match Making.
Lion Dads are few in between but I still see them ALOT more then Viera in content now.

Could you make new characters when au ra came out? I can't even make an alt on my server, and I imagine there's a fair number of servers you can't make an alt on.
So, your only option is buying a fantasia.
I also think the later you go in an MMOs life, the fewer and fewer people show interest in new races.
Just look at the census for WoW- belfs, humans, night elves are still the top three races by a massive margin- as in, half the playerbase or more plays them. Even compare belfs and velfs, same model different factions, velfs giving the Alliance their long sought high elf model.
Belfs are around 30%, I don't think velfs are even 3% of max levels- and each xpac comes with a level boost potion so it's not like the levelling process is a big factor anymore.
I guarantee if viera had came out in ARR or even HW they'd be considerably more populus.
I think some that switched to Viera are starting to get bored and return to what they were before, as I'm seeing the return of more Au Ra and Miqo'te, but there's still a ton of Viera around. They did indeed blow up, and much more than I would have anticipated. Hrothgar also seem to be catching on a bit more lately which is a bit of a surprise.
I love my Viera, and while I do have my miqo'te look saved, I don't think I will switch back. I am optimistic about getting more hair styles (either new or the ones unlocked through pvp, dungeons.raids what have you adjusted for bunbuns) and helms, although like many people, I turn full helms off anyway, or glam them to things like headbands, bindis, glasses or the like. I actually like the more reserved emotes, I don't really notice the battle sounds, I'm too busy concentrating.
And for ones complaining about the 'slutty' racial gear, or 'slutty' glams, I see plenty of other female races in very little, so don't blame the Vieras. The Viera outfit is actually lovely. And the lvl 80 dancer outfit is gorgeous.
I do hope for some QOL with the ears, right now they are a bit stiff. They need to twitch and swivel, just a bit, but again, that may come down the road, I can wait and still enjoy my elegant loveliness! And for the poster that said the noses need plastic surgery, that is one of the best things, the noses are great!
I love my pretty bunny alt and I'd play her more often but I'm too lazy to do the entirety of HW and SB again...
Were people this salty about Au Ra too, or are people just mad about an all female race that isn't Dainty Waifu material?
Ever since playing Viera, I don't think I can change back, some Au Ra and Miqo'te faces now look grotesquely round and chubby to me.

Its fine that races are more diverse :)
I found Viera to be the perfect race for how I look at my character. I love the ponytail hairstyle of Viera most of every other hairstyle I have collected ;)
To be fair you have to go way out of your way to be able to make a female Miqo'te or Au Ra that doesn't look like forever-17, I don't think the "older mature woman" was ever the aesthetic aimed at. Which is also one of the reasons I think some people are changing back. Viera definitely don't have the "sweet youth" feel to them, though I blame it on the lack of hair options since the other female races have some modern looking stuff that helps with the whole young&cool aesthetic.
For Au Ra there were other problems. Face/Horns lock, for example, and ridiculous dimorphism between males and females. That's what I can remember, at least.
Vieras are still waifu style, though? But they are certainly more mature and hot looking than Au Ra, that's true. Their only issue for now are limited hairs. And maybe height for somebody, but it's not so annoying as being unable to use any of Mog/PvP/Events/etc hairstyles.
Yep, and most of the headgear is locked out. Can't even wear hats. It really takes away from the race. Just a little too limited for my taste. I play Au Ra/Miqo'te about equally, so I guess I am back to that.
I just need to choose one and stick with it. I spent too much on outfits this month, so I'm stuck as miqo'te for a good while, cause I won't spend more on the mogstation. :o
One thing about viera though, and because of it, is I started coming around to the darker skin tones overall. I think I like playing a relatively tanned/darker character more than a lighter skin tone now. I think it just looks better aesthetically in-game. Plus more unique (skin color wise).
Playerbase mostly seem to ignore headgear in fact, except such things as glasses or flowers. But yeah, not having an opportunity to wear a hat even if you normally don't do this anyway is unpleasant, I'm agree.
As for skin colors - it depends on character a lot... I remember I tried to make mine more dark skinned, but it just doesn't really suit him. Don't know why.
You can't even preview any of the hats. So you don't even know what they look like. Yeah, I'm one who doesn't really wear helmets, I don't know why it really bothered me. I change my character's look so much taht I was feeling the lack of hairstyles I paid money/grinded for for sure though. I like about 3 viera hairstyles(the pony tail is amazing!)
Yeah, for sure it definitly depends on the character. You'd have to design it around the darker tone. I wouldn't make the au ra I always play darker, she has a specific look and when I fantasia to her it's usually always the same except for height/eye color (very minor changes).
I find it a bit curious that the Au Ra population bled more numbers from the introduction of Viera then Miqo'te, since I figured the cuter look of the females was what drew people to them.
I'm pretty certain the lack of Allied Race characters in WoW is more on the fact that all of them are quest unlocks. You can't make a new Void Elf, Nightborne or Lightforged Draenei (the pretty races) without having a level 110 character, Exalted rep and a quest chain.
This would be like if you needed a level 60/level 80 character that is Bloodsworn/Allied with specific Beast Tribes to unlock Au Ra, Viera and Hrothgar.
I see more bunnies than cats right now, it blew up like a TNT.
There are bunnies everywhere.
I love being a Viera, and have no issues with the limited hairstyles (though Lightning's would be nice) and the lack of headgear. I usually always keep my headgear hidden anyway, minus glasses. The Viera are still very unique and I have seen plenty of variations in both Viera and Hrothgar.
Of course, the population boom will balance itself out, but I love the diversity they bring.
I know it's sort of the same idea- but as far as I can tell beast race reps in FFXIV are off to the side. In WoW, rep grinding is pretty centric.
Just consider the rewards- I believe it's a mount for beast tribes?
In WoW, it's one or more mounts, pets, toys. Numerous endgame recipes if you craft. Gear that is normal raid quality from WQs. Oh, and flying... and you have to do ten days of dailies just to access the current raid. Dailies and rep grinding are to WoW what the MSQ is to FFXIV- it's necessary if you want to do most things, and you're shut out of a lot of content if you try to skip it.
My point being- getting exalted reps in WoW is close to required as is, this wasn't always the case but it is now (it's also a good deal easier, since emissaries give 1500 rep with minimal effort, and even if it takes a few months it's pretty painless), while I don't think that's the case with beast tribes. Most development goes into the dailies, most content are rep dailies- I think it would be closest to saying you'd need to be done Stormblood's MSQ to unlock viera, or ARR's to unlock au ra.
I'm noticing a lot of Viera/Hrothgar still, but obviously a lot of people have switched back to their original races due to the lack of headgear/hairstyle options. I hope SE realizes this and does something about it soon. I want my unlockable hairstyles that I worked hard for.
Oddly enough it's the ears for me that make it hard to go viera. If you kept everything the same (hair options, build, proportions etc) the same but replaced the bunny ears with elf ears I'd be all over them. Unfortunately something about the Elezen optiosn I've just never been able to make an elezen I've liked with the CC.
Ear physics would be nice, not necessarily like the GS or fox ears that boing at every movement but at least while doing emotes.
I'm going to say it's an assumption, nothing from Yoshi on it, nothing official posted that I've seen. More of a wish then an assumption really until we get word otherwise.
Last official thing I can find is an interview.
"We have to identify what they're coming from, so we can respond correctly," Yoshida said about concerned fans. "We want to review all the feedback that players gave. The bottom line is that the addition of a race takes quite a lot of cost; it's really quite an undertaking."
Yoshida added that in Final Fantasy XII, which is where Viera is from, the male Viera do not show themselves in public, so Final Fantasy XIV Online is staying loyal to the lore with only offering a female option. Yoshida explained that the male-only Hrothgar is Square Enix's effort to offer a new male-only race in response to Viera being female-only.
Actually, his last official announcement was in the Letter from the Producer XLII.

Which is the same usual message he'll give when he doesn't want to say no nor confirm something.Quote:
As you play through Shadowbringers, you’ll learn that both male Viera and female Hrothgar exist. While you won’t meet any in person, if we developers can find a way to address the various problems which are preventing us from implementing them, then perhaps someday you’ll be able to see them for yourself. I want to be clear that this does not mean it will eventually happen, and that I cannot make any promises at this time. I hope you will understand and bear with us.
Also, what people need to keep in mind, is that they started working on the new races during patch 4.1 and until now, they still can't wear all headgear and have some limited features. So if they don't start working on the missing genders during 5.1, then seeing them in 6.0 would be next to impossible. Add to that the amount of gear that will be added during ShB life that needs to be taken into consideration. So a more realistic assumption would be 7.0 if they decided to.
Yadda-yadda-yadda anecdotal, but my experience on Hyperion/Primal duties is more or less a fairly even representation between Hrothgar and Viera with the Viera having slightly more presence. There seems like a healthy mix of both, and Viera never nearly "blew up" and overshadowed everything else, at least here on Hyperion anyway. Sometimes I'll see a bunch of Viera around a high-traffic aetheryte, other times I'll see some Horthgar and no Viera.
DF (or PF) parties aren't much different. The only time I ever had a "3 Viera +me" dungeon instance was when I partied with my 2 Viera FC mates and the DF random was Viera. Though it wasn't exactly uncommon to get 2 Vieras in dungeon runs, less so a few weeks after release. Never had more than 1 Hrothgar in a DF dungeon, except for maybe one time when I saw two together. For 8 man content it's too varied to see one beat out the other. Had a few runs with up to three Viera and no Hrothgar, or 3 Hrothgar and no Viera.
So basically, in my personal experience (and believe me, I have been paying attention to this sort of thing), I don't think Viera just overtook everything and Hrothgar are hardly just a rare sight. It's a wholesome mix. Then again, I can only speak for what I notice on Hyperion and in my DF and PF encounters. Other datacenters and their servers might be (and sound to be) different.
On Leviathan all I see are viera and hrothgar nowadays.
there actually aren't too many, they just stand out in a crowd. Viera being like 8' tall if you include the ears and hrothgar beastial features
and of the people i know that tried them almost all have gone back to their previous miqote or aura forms
I use to see a lot of Viera and Hrothgars but recently their numbers have started to drop. I still see a lot of them but it's not like before where there would be crowds of them. I do see less roes though and though I've never been fond of roes it's kinda sad to see barely any around.
I still see a ton of Viera, and 90% of them are wearing their default skimpy gear or bikinis.
I expect the novelty to wear off eventually. I thought I would want to try Viera but meh.
Right now I’m playing a Viera but a part of me wants to / will probably switch back eventually because the hair / headgear is so limited. Its really unfortunate when you have a hair style you unlocked and liked but can’t use it. Makes that investment in time alone essentially void until you fantasia back to a race with “normal” hair.
Iirc the Au Ra didn’t start with limited hair so it makes me wonder what’s the cause? Headgear and the ears clashing makes sense to me but with hair? I’d be interested to see some behind the scenes explanation as to why they did what they did. Are the ears incompatible with normal hair? Does having a buzzcut make the Viera become a AC Unity monster?
I think they have resigned themselves with both viera and hrothgar being 'limited' races. They probably stretched themselves too thin doing both, and I don't think we are actually going to see 'all' hairstyles even added to viera. Probably going to release updates to each race coupled together.
Head gear did it for me, with head pieces being iconic for many sets (especially artifact) it’s a hard sell.
