I mean, besides mailing them a seething letter disguised as a car package? not really. Or just unsub or cancel your pre-order, I think it's a silly thing to do over a cosmetic race and not over the PLETHORA of other issues(Butt capes, Game balance, Samey dungeons, Pagos and HYDATOS, lack of QoL fixes, LOADING SCREEN WHEN DIVING, all of that HUD, the fact that his forum looks like it's from 2002) but you'd be in your right to do so.

I feel like one of the good take aways from this whole hot mess is that now that they introduced the beastly cave man race that a vocal minority was asking for; whenever they inevitably add male Viera, they will now be able to add them with a more feminine or at least slightly less masculine appearance because those who wanted a manly man race should be sated at this point. Plus, when they inevitably add female Hrothgar, we should get an amazing looking beastly female character to play as.

And lore is still a weak excuse that doesn't have any weight behind it. Looking forward to male Viera and female Hrothgar in 6.0! :D

Yeah, I think so too. I mean, unsubbing and pre-order cancelling are probably the best options to create a noticeable effect.

That still leaves the issue of people wanting to find ways to properly express why they're doing these things though. SE can probably put 2 and 2 together to realize why their subscriptions are dropping, but that doesn't address the problems people will have expressing themselves. People want an outlet when they're incensed like this, and that's another reason why the forums and Reddit have become so flushed with people. These are the best places to find like-minded people to lick wounds with, so to speak.

With all that in mind, I do also agree that all of the other things you have mentioned are definitely worth looking into. Those are all completely legitimate issues. It's just, when people say "glamour is the real end-game," that's always only said half-jokingly. People really, really care about their physical appearance in online games and how they are represented to others. And that's why this issue has exploded in its infamy against all of the other issues mentioned.

I know, I think you're well within your right to express yourself of course, you're upset and that is valid. You have a right to state that and let the developers know obviously you pay money for this service and are not happy with the changes. That isn't being entitled that's being a consumer, my statement was just in regards to this being a surefire way to see change, I just don't want anyone (especially if it's their first time) to come here and think that, get invested and then get no response. I may have been pessimistic but I do wish you all luck after all, I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't.

Severely disappointed but not surprised at the gender-locked races...female Hrothgar at this point is actually something I'd like more--but only if they actually retain a beastly look and frame, and they didn't just make...taller miqo'te ladies. But I'd also appreciate having a more svelte option for male characters as well in the form of Viera.

Anyway just adding my support. I don't expect Square Enix to be progressive in terms of gender and gender presentation but...considering how much this game means to me (or rather the people I've met through it), the gesture would mean the world to me.

Male Viera please!

Im really sorry you all are saddened about the lack of male Viera. I am too. I was looking forward to seeing something similar to the male concept art in game and was shocked with the release of the new male only race. Let’s hope they see the upset in the community about this and work towards a resolution like they did with male miq’otes and the bunny outfits at some point.

No male Viera and no new healers were real let downs for me with this expansion.

Although I’m probably not gonna play a male Viera, it’s still good to see them there...

I'm pleased that this thread continues to grow. I really hope that SE gets wind of this and gives it a look. Genderlock races and genderlock classes(from other games) really takes away the freedom of the players. Keep speaking out and don't let this topic rest at all until it is addressed.

I understand they have a somewhat tight development schedule, but they could've released hrothgar in 6.0 or halfway through 5.0... Viera is what we were asking for. Adding a beast race has got to be hell for the animation and inventory/gear design people, a different gender for an already-planned race would still be annoying, but surely a bit less work..

Lack of male Viera and healer were big disappointments for me. I hadn't planned on making/playing a male Viera from the beginning, but having the option for those many who really wanted to be one would've been great. While I can kind of get why they went the route they did, I feel like one fully fleshed out race with both male and female counterparts would've been better.

Glad this thread is here and growing.

Players pour a lot of themselves into this game. It was a big and surprising disappointment to those of us who had faith that XIV was better than the old gaming tropes. It was something different that (I thought) both the dev team and player community were proud of and excited about.

The world (both the real one and the in-game one) deserve better than this. We can do better. We must do better.

Let's keep telling them.

Support. Not much else to say that hasn’t been said. Gender-locked races that fit into cookie-cutter models of blatant (sometimes harmful) old-school gender stereotypes are super boring, unoriginal and regressive. Especially when they could have made male Viera and female Hrothgar work or shuffle around resources in so many ways. Real hype killer.

I support the addition of male viera... In fact, I'm a little upset about the overall state of male character creation. I don't want to be a cat boy, but every other male race doesn't suit the character design I was going for.
I would have preferred Baanga to Hrothgar any day. I wouldn't even care if they had a limited armor pool if it meant putting a REAL beast race in the game.
Female hrothgar could also be really cool.
I hope the devs hear us out!

Signed. I never really come into the forums but I feel this situation with the gender locking is ludicrous. I have no problem them adding the Hrothgar along with the Viera at all but why all of a sudden making them one specific gender?

I hope they have future plans to change this after the backlash they've been getting

Although we have around 303 likes in just a single day, a couple hundred likes is still not enough. Encourage players who don't use the forums often to come register and "like" if they want male viera. Every like counts.

I was really holding out hope for male viera in particular and the general gender locking is just awful. Certainly kills my drive to get the CE and after the crappy way FFXV was handled Final Fantasy in general is looking bleak as hell.

I mean..Yoshi-P can feel however the hell he wants about attractive male avatars outside the scope of straight dudes but the playerbase who wants them shouldnt have to suffer for that fragile tosh. Get a therapist for your hangups Yoshi and give us male Viera (and female Hrothgar)!

I was looking forward to Male Viera a whole lot, hoping we'd finally get a male model that looks as good as male Miqo'te or male Midlanders. Au Ra were a sore disappointment. Just scaly angry Elezen. Now we're getting Furry Cat-Faced Roegadyn, which look like some Developer became a MASSIVE FAN of God of War 4.

I'm not nor would fantasia to male Viera or female Ronso, but I want to see my friends happy and represented in how they'd choose to play. Genderlocking is regressive for an MMO, let alone 14.

Fix this.

I find the Whole "They are rare and go against the lore" argument... You can't cry lore when we have Flying T-Rexs and Behemoths. "Oh Magic Saddle" ok fine then, "Oh Magic Fantasia" . Same argument. Realistically since Fantasia/Glamour is canon to the lore of the game, you could theoretically change into ANYTHING! I don't buy it.

No, this argument is dumb because Male Viera lore is literally the exact same as Male Moonkeeper Lore, and they're playable.

/signed Male Viera and Female Hrothgar need to be added. Undoing the gender locks of 1.0 was a great thing, bringing back gender locks is a terrible idea.

So disappointing... I was ready to turn myself into male Viera, now all my dreams are gone to dust.

Hope they can fix gender lock in future.

Please give us male Viera and female Hrothgar. Genderlocking is and always has been a bad idea. SE is better than this.

Viera was requested by players. Viera is not exclusively original, as their race appeared in other games. If the higher ups said no, then there's not much the devs can do about it but follow orders. So I can never blame them.

Square holds the rights to viera. Square can decide not to make them. Square also holds the rights to ffxiv and square can be held responsible for the decision by people’s choices and feedback regarding this choice.

Additionally. Square needs to learn their lesson from how they handled the questions regarding male viera since Paris. They could have said there are no male viera then and stoped the hype and anticipation. Instead they CHOSE to let it continue and basically set up hrothgar to fail.

I’ve stated day one since the leak, it won’t matter how awesome hrothgar may be. If they’re not male viera, people will be furious, and the forums show I was not wrong. This was a bad decision on Square’s end, and they need to know that their customers disapprove.

Also. The lore excuse is really pathetic. Male misquotes are as rare as male viera and they exist as a playable sex. Duskwight elezen are even rarer and we can play them too. Pointing to lore feels like them making an excuse for not wanting to do it, especially when they said at Heavensward they didn’t do it because Yoshi doesn’t like male viera. Not because lore.

Signed. The news was hugely disappointing for both Viera and Hrothgar and the state that they are in. Not complete ? Low Textures ? Models horrendous ?Missing genders ? I would have much rather had an overhaul of character creation than this.

Genderlocking actually limits variety in the world imo. I would never play Hrothgar, but I would love to be able to see both genders in the open world.
Character creation and character identity in an mmo are very important. It represents you, your identity, personality through your character within this fantasy world. This decision sends a pervading message that SE can be as random and undiscerning as their impressive RNG mechanics.

So. Lore surrounding Male Viera, from what I've seen, states that a Male Viera is primarily independent, living in the woods as it's guardian, and only returning to Villages to have kids.
Lore regarding Male Moonkeepers is... kind of the same thing. They're mostly independent and come around now and then to have kids. Moonkeeper Males are even as rare as Male Viera are made out to be.

This is why using the Lore as a reason to not add Male Viera makes no sense.

There's no real argument to be had here. Male Viera should have happened, gender locking races is stupid and restrictive. When you boil all this down its about not wanting to have made a playable race of feminine men/masculine women, homophobia and sexism. I'm so extremely disappointed and hurt by this, and was so looking forward to actually getting to play as a male viera, feels like a slap in the face. Stop making men have to be hulking monsters and women forced to be sexualized "waifu" appropriate. Let men be pretty and soft, and let women big and muscular and furries.
