The Halloween event is teasing us as Lupin. SE just make this a reality already!
We dont need more races, what about a race origins Hellluuuuuu
As if it was bad enough the lalas have to run and hide so they aren't fed to peoples chocobos, you want them to have to run from Lupins too?
Poor lalas
Lupin would be a nice change of pace in character look.
Still want moogle to be a playable race tho >.>
I would play a Lupin. I don't see a reason why they wouldn't be made playable. I mean, aside from lacking female models at the moment, but those can always just still be made.
Lore-wise it makes sense too. Sure the Lupin are technically a Beast race, but they seem to have integrated into Doman society flawlessly, and they're the only Beast race to date sensible enough to not summon a Primal.
Please, for the love of all that his holy, NO.
Honestly, I wouldn't have anything against the Lupin. Or any sort of Beast Tribe race in general. I always wanted to see a race like Khimari's in the game. I know we already have the Miqo'te as the "feline" race, but I wouldn't mind seeing a more animalistic race.

Or Freya's race from FFIX.

Alls I want out of a new race is one where the women are larger than the men.
Enough with the petite waifus.
Give me strong warrior women and dainty soft boys.
Best you can hope for is beast tribe quests. I'm sure that's what we'll probably eventually get - the story already eludes to us being friendly with them while there could be potential for others to still side with the Garlean cause.
I like what little lore we have of them, and maybe if they were more humanoid it could work. But as it stands - both in a lore angle and a gameplay angle - it just wouldn't work.
Problem with that logic is the Au Ra. They look somewhat beastman-ish yet nobody brings it up in ARR, and it's really only brought up from HW on. It can be done like that, where it's never really mentioned until SB areas. Plus the Halloween event questline seems to hint at Eorzea being able to be okay with the Lupin.
Yet at the very beginning of the quest line, our introduction to the Lupin has villagers seeing him and fleeing. Getting to know one individual under a controlled situation is one thing, same can be said if you were to introduce the beastmen clans we make peace with. But without that controlled situation, without a special circumstance, anyone would see the Lupin as something to be wary of and either avoid entirely or act aggressively towards. Eorzeans can be a very squeamish and untrusting lot. There can be exceptions, but they are just that.
Before any other race is introduced i want Viera. There is more than enough support for it and concept art has already been unveiled.
Though, due to the recent announcement by Yoshi P. in regards to housing and server stability and infrastructure, the addition of expanded customization options for current races should be looked at. In the past, the excuse for limited character creation options was the strain it would put server side due to increase character data moving for one point to another.
The separation of eye and head gear, the addition of beards for males, body sliders (within reason, no disproportionate monstrosities ala Blade and Soul/ Aion, ect...), a hair customization system that allows for different sections of the head to mix and match hair styles (front, back, side accents.
(example: Tekken hair combination preview)
https://media.eventhubs.com/images/2012/04/15_ttt17.jpg
Primary, secondary, and accent dye options for weapons and armor, weapon glow/ aura effect glamours, expansion of character interaction emotes (implemented like the ride pillion option, /carry, /dance, ect...).
but Viera first SE... we have waited long enough.
I support this. We need more beast like races.
I don't mind the Viera, but I eventually also want a race that's not too human or super cutesy looking. I'd just love fighting alongside a beast like Kimahri.

That, i see as the problem, and the most realistic outcome the would happen if more beast like races are introduced (even if that's not how you meant it). Most would only like to fight along side them. Not play as them, and why would you? Less if not non-existent facial animations, during many cut scenes this can actively make certain story elements seem absurd due to the interactions being done with characters who have frozen faces, unable to match the expression needed to convey emotions.
Look at this, tell me you believe this love story.
True SE would do a better job, and yes such bonds can and do exist. However for the amount of players that would actually play as a more bestial race, some could very easily argue the the development time could and should be spent elsewhere.
Yes Viera are another waifu race, i do understand that, however they fit the setting of this game. i, in my opinion do not feel this does.
Were Wolf
GW2 Charr
FF Series Seeq
FF Series Bangaa
Unknown
Personally i have always wanted to play as a type of Were Boar as i'm fairly certain no one else would (though i admit freely that i could be wrong)
The most beast like i can see SE/ FF going as far as playable races would be that of which was introduced in Bless Online's Pantera/ Lupus race
Male
Fmale
For a playable race it just makes more sense to add concepts that better complement one another rather that diametrically oppose one another, hence the opinion that Viera should be would be a natural fit. It's what by and far the player base prefers , if race polls are any indication.
Honestly, the one single reason I'd prefer to fight alongside them, instead of actually playing them, is that I simply wouldn't find the time to play an alt character. I grew really attached to my character, wouldn't dare to Fantasia him, and the amount of time I put into this character, I simply can't see myself put into another character. I don't know how people do it. ='D
We have strong warrior women, and we have the average amazonian, we also have the tall and elegant. We have the petite and perky and the petite with elegance. Both petite, much like we have two super tall races. If anything we need something to balance out the current line-up, that leads to not petite, but short.
And plenty already matches the dainty soft boy, especially the cats. We certainly need more gruff, and not some half-hearted gruff, like grizzly and rough.
So we need a race where we have something short, not just small, with strong women and especially grizzled men.
I wonder what races matches that.... (lali ho!)
Personaly, I dont like how the Lupin look like, something with their faces and midlander hyur body type. I prefer to see Ivalice Viera or a beastman race like Khimari from FFX. If possible, maybe a bird type of beastman would also be a nice addition to FFXIV. Something like the Rito from the Legend of Zelda games? They could even make them the first race that can fly without a mount.

Face doesn't look anything like the other races, so they'd have more work... Armors would also be ugly, if not redesigned... Basically, the devs might have to completely redesign 80+% of the armors, and maybe even some mounts...
Still, Alacran, you got me talking about were-boar. Now, I'm on my way to find a group for some D&D5.
Okay, I feel I should point out the flaw in this logic, no offense to you but you might not be aware. First of all the game isn't about "Beastmen vs Humanoids" it is about the player character working to protect the world from forces of Darkness, namely the Ascians, it just so happens to also include SOME of the Beast Tribes summoning Primals (since a Primal has a detrimental impact on the world around it) but it isn't ALL beast tribes doing this, the Lupin certainly haven't, not to my knowledge. Furthermore, not all the members of the Beast Tribes that HAVE summoned a Primal, are stupid enough to be like their bretherin and summon one. FURTHERMORE even Non Beast Tribe races have actively Summoned Primals, for example Ysayle Dangoulain (Lady Iceheart) could turn herself into a Primal form (Shiva), and Thordan plus his Knights of the Round ALSO turn themselves into Primals. So do not think for one second that it is a game of Humanoids vs Beastmen when it clearly isn't. Furthermore ALOT of what goes on in A Realm Reborn is you fighting humans, the Garlean Empire for example right up to the Ultima Weapon fight.
PS: Incase you have forgotten, there was an Ixali who had the Power of the Echo. This power is a power that is linked to the Mother Crystal aka Hydaelyn herself. So CLEARLY if SE wanted to, Beastmen could be playable races, as one of the most PIVOTAL powers of the Warrior of Light is useable even by Beastmen. Also Humanoid is not exactly the right word to use in this case, as most if not all the Beast Tribes are bipedal. Furthermore, many members of the Beast Tribes are actually peaceful, friendly even, and you can even ally yourself with them.
I would like to see the Viera race in the game as another race to choose from.
Id rather lupin than some kinda mutated bunny race anyday
not before the viera...
Men vs Beastmen is definitiely a theme of the game that is turned on it's head once we get to heavensward. Having a playable beastman would kinda spoil that since there would be less of a division between the two groups.
It's possible since we had a hint at the new race in HW with Yugiri in ARR.
You know they could easily introduce the Lupin (or another beastly race) with a questline. Make it so that you need to have finished ARR with a current race. Then when you are either after the Ultima fight or truly at the end of ARR when you are on the run you can talk to a NPC and start some quest. After some dialogue and scenes a curse will hit you that will transform you into the new race. (Including all the character creation options) This way people will be able to try out the new race without truly changing their character. At the end of the quest you can choose to stay that new race or just turn back to your old character. (Anyway after doing the quest you will just unlock the option to change to this race via fantasia.) This way, the new beastly race will not just suddenly be part of the MSQ and since you already did quite some things for the realm people will just look over your new appearance. This way it would not feel that strange to see them trusting a beastly unknown race. The rest is just up to your imagination. (Like the whole reactions of all the NPCs...since they dont even care if you change race anyway..)
Anyone that is already further down the storyline can also just accept the quest but the first few sentences will be changed to show where someone is.
This will lock out people that want to start the game as the new race so its not a perfect solution but at least this would give us a bit of an ingame reason. (And on top of that they could also give us more character customization options and a free fantasia. So everyone would be happy. And those that dont want to even change in such a "ugly" race for a bit can just ignore the quests.)
That's probably as much as you're going to get. When you get the werewolf costume it actually animates less than the Mi'qote ears and tail do. The tail looks like one solid piece where as the tails of the Mi'qote and Au ra all appear to have two flex points.
https://i.imgur.com/F8Sz1yy.png
Though it's likely possible that the developers could make more "funny ears and tails" type of outfits for other events. But the ears clearly don't work like the Mi'qote ears, or even the Lupin ears do. My guess is that when you wear them, it simply hides the Mi'qote ears and tail, which is why there's no emote linkage. I still think this was a good event none the less.
Also take note of how the feet work in the werewolf outfit. They simply have no "heel" on the footgear.
All of the different races have unique animations, so I don't think that would be a big deal. Just the facial animations. The Lupin are also bipedal and have humanoid feet (if you look at their model they are wearing perfectly normal sollerets) and most gloves would work with their hands. The only issue would be the headpiece and maybe the body, since Lupin have a lot of floof. However there are unique headpieces for Miqo'te too to accommodate their ears, so I don't think it would be too hard.
The neck floof would be a problem, but I think it's big enough to not clip with a lot of armor. Plus they could make the amount of floof something you can change in character creation, like hairstyles.
