Yeah it really opens the doors now :D
Location was amazing....music brought me back to Ivalice and its serious dangers and just..that sense of urgency+danger you always feel in Ivalice :D
I'm also really proud/glad that Matsuno didn't make Return to Ivalice only about Tactics and that XII still means a lot to him still, it's my favorite FF (tied with X)
Yeah I agree completely. It's the only way to keep the suspense/anticipation for them and going into 5.0. But I can wait to see them on the last tier, it just has to happen. Getting skipped for au ra was really harsh since it's been a race wanted in ffxiv since the beginning...And as iconic as other FF things like moogles or ifrit at this point.
1) No Viera, who are easily the best thing about Ivalice (with or without Vagrant Story).
2) So help me if the raid is 30% or more narration and 50% standing around waiting for things to happen. <_<
3) I hate XII so, so much.
Depends on how the story of the raid is played out. Don't forget that what we know so far is that FFT (and I guess XII) is a fairytale. As we can fight powerful remixed boss fights thanks to the Wandering Minstrel, it's entirely possible to believe this raid could be a performance of some kind.
Didn't see Ivalice gear..hope we get Ivalice gear!
I think tanks are getting something similar to what Ramza (Squire) wears, assuming the gear everyone is wearing during the Ivalice segment is the Ivalice gear.
I kind of wish they would keep the Fending/Striking/Casting/etc. types of gear and then have the appearance change based on what your job is.
Striking gear drops? For monk it changes appearance to look like this:

But if you're a samurai? Then it looks like this:

You get the idea. Rather than the character specific gear, make it the job specific stuff.
The music in trailer gave me the FFXII feeling. Can't wait to see gear and other bits!
It's Decisive Battle, from FFT.

OMG no wonder why it sounded so familiar! Thanks for the heads up! Totally missed it
No its Battle on the bridge
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8RlLfTuK9Y
Yes, actually. I think it took me a few tries to get it done. Those assassin ladies hit hard.
There's also that one fight on the bridge which was some of the more memorable scenes in the game.
I should really play Tactics again because it's been such a long time. Maybe after I finish FFXII.
Two, actually, if you count XII as even being a game. FF Tactics Advance certainly is one, but the Gambit system with all of the challenge of being hit randomly with status ailments? I'd sooner stick to gambling away the price of a brand new video game on a slot machine in Vegas, thanks.
Quality matters more than quantity.
Number of appearances don't make something more recognizable. You can have a boring design in 200 games and have a really good design in 2 games and guess which the fanbase will ask for more than the other. Quantity means nothing in 2017.
Eh, at this point, this probably destroys your argument more than it helps it. You could remove Viera from the Ivalice games and most people probably wouldn't notice (aside from the lack of 'awesome older female character' - and even then, reducing Fran's defining character traits to 'bunny ears' is probably insulting to some people), nor would the narratives of the games really change. Last time I checked, as good at world building the Ivalice games were, the games didn't really run with racial differences beyond 'moogles are clever', 'Bangaa look like lizards but HATE being called lizards for obvious reasons, and are usually brutish mercenaries', 'Seeq are EVEN MORE brutish', 'Nu Mou are really smart', 'Gria are a female-only race of dragons that can fly', and 'Viera are a female-only bunny race that are good at anything'. As in, racial differences in FFTA2 especially only really mattered for gameplay reasons rather than the actual narrative.
But your two examples (moogles and ifrit)? Some eyebrows would be raised for the sake of 'tradition'.
Viera, Bangaa, Nu Mou and such are 'iconic' to the Ivalice games. Final Fantasy in general, definitely not as iconic as Moogles, Chocobo's, Cactuars, Tonberry's, etc (things that appear in most Final Fantasy games and may appear in spin-off titles).
The hype is real! Ba'Gamnan, Ramza, Delita, the Decisive Battle theme, SOMEBODY TELL ME HOW SOON I CAN ENTER IT!
Quality is subjective though, and it's quantity what makes something "iconic", every time people see a bunny girl won't remind them of FF series as a whole, but moogles will.
You're also overestimating how many people played FFT compared to the entire series as a whole.
I wanna see Fran. Just Once pleeeease >_<
I want to see Agrius but her name already used for airship if i'm not mistaken.
But if she really did appears,SE better make her radiant and gorgeous.
It is a name they used for the airship Midgardsormr's body is coiled around, but I'm sure they can still include Agrius' character. Maybe the designer of the Agrius liked the character in the fairytale so much, they named the airship after her?
Personally I always thought everything from the writing to the fantastic world building were the best things about the Ivalice games, but no, it was clearly the FemElezen with bunny ears.
Glad to see the new raid is gonna be a mix of Tactics and FFXII, hopefully we can get some nice themed gear (Judge Magister Armor when?)
I wonder what they'll use as boss theme if Esper theme from 12 or.......THE PERVERT from tactics
Well so far Trisection (Live Letter) and Battle on the Bridge (trailer) have been heard in the raid, so it's probably safe to assume all music will be from FFT. Probably. Maybe.
