That and the all-female thing, but I'm glad that they didn't do that. Shame on the wings bit, but it's entirely understandable why they don't have them.

I don't really like them, I though they would add a really interesting design since it seemed that they dropped the Viera for this race, which looks really generic in my opinion, I would prefer a generic bunny girl/guy than a generic "dragon" race... but to each their own I guess, I'll stay with my Miqo.
Sigh my coworker told me about this race.
Whilebit pains me to say it...
I am actually disappointed.
They look like the Miqo'te character model just with the Cat features chopped off, horns stuck to their face, & a hairless tail replacing the furry tail.
In "MY" opinion...
The race should be as drastic a change as Roegadyn are.
Something that stands out.
A thick crocodile like tail, full body scales, and horn patterns like the Gria.
The cheek horns are...odd.
Right now they just look like Miqo'te to me. I also feel that the Miqo'te need full body fur as an "option".
Like the Ronso.
Dropping my 2 gils aswell.
I like the males more than the females. For my likings, the females seem a bit too delicate to be something "dragonish". Well, maybe there will be a few options to make them look a bit more fierce.
(Like with the fem. Miqo'te. I always thought that the small eye option made them more fierce and less cute ^^")
The one thing I don't like on both genders is the style/shape of the tail. They look too much like those of Miqo'te and especially on the huge males they seem... a bit strange. You barely notice them :/
I wrote on the SGD that I think, that the tails should be a bit more voluminous/thicker/whatever and I do hope they'll get a slider too.
.
Show your support for this option in this thread: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-it-Yoshi-P%21
I've been reading all the responses to the new race announcement... there are two camps: ones who love how clean & pretty they are & ones who'd hoped or who wish they were more reptilian/monster-like.
My request is simple: please both parties by implementing a "scaly skin" option.
Ones who like the clean/pretty look will remain happy with them as they are & the ones who want a more reptilian look now have that option.
It doesn't have to be the entire body, it could be from those thick armor-like scale shoulder parts up if anything. If you're worried about the development time & rendering/processing, that much would suffice.
Here's my kindergarten example's:

Please Dev's (Bayohne, Camate, Grekumah), Yoshi-P, if there's any Character Customization Suggestion of mine you heed, let it be this one! And while there's still time!!
.
Have to disagree. I think the patches of scales will add much more character to the new race than full body scale coverage.
Now just have to hope one can pick where the scales go, as to add some difference between the players a bit more.
If they where covered in full body scales, I also think they'd get played less. For all the forum talk you see of "I want such and such! So do so many others!" It's one of the least played races in every other game.
Aman in TERA? Bottom of player chosen races. Draken in WS? Bottom of player chosen races.
They're not as popular a race as some people think, and made even less so if they're deemed ugly by the masses.
We already know since 2.2 how the tail would look

Isnt that very close to Viera?
Well, I agree, there are so many more they can add: I like the moon race...
They really do look like Elezens with scales, horns, and tails. I wonder how their emotes will be. And I wonder how many people will be switching to them?
I've never been a fan of these sorts of designs that super-emphasize the difference between the genders, but I know good and well that I'm in the minority. Just as some people want to make female characters that are fierce and warrior-like, I enjoy playing male characters that look petite and non-threatening, even effeminate.
Yugiri's overall physiology (from what we could tell past the outfit) seemed like it could represent a race with the potential to be customized in just such a way. Instead, we get yet another muscle-bound, hardcore warrior to go along with Roegadyn and Highlanders. Dragons are fierce and powerful, but they're also sleek and graceful. Wyverns especially are downright cute! SE agrees, it seems, but only if you're a girl.
My disappointment is profound, but, like I said, it's also 100% selfish. I know that people like these sorts of designs, so I don't fault SE for their decision. I suppose my Miqo'te is just going to have to be good enough for me. :(
People either love or hate it. I was slightly impressed and they looked like something from some Korean MMO.
/sigh... I wonder how anyone at SE manages to keep any sort of passion for making this game when the community does nothing but find things to complain about.
1) There is nothing inherently wrong with the new race, for both males and females. The only issue that people are failing to understand is that they simply don't like it. For a variety of reasons, each and every one of them stemming from a failure to get exactly what they want, people are trying to justify their own immaturity.
2) There are as many different desires for new races as there are players, with no two being alike. But instead of acknowledging this fact and finding the positive aspects of variety, people simply want to complain that the world isn't catering to them, alone.
3) Why can't people find and support things they are happy about, rather than simply complain about what they don't like?
I work in the video game industry and I can tell you a very interesting fact about criticism: It's not seen as a positive quality at the professional level. Once you rise above the unskilled masses, the "talent" to sit and complain is not tolerated. It takes, however, far more skill and talent and knowledge to see qualities in spite of the obvious problems.
For example: I doubt you'll find very many people who truly feel that the Star Wars episodes I-III were genuinely good movies. You can find 32945938459235879 things wrong or bad with those movies, sure. But so what? Any unskilled self-proclaimed "expert" can do the same damn thing. But can you find redeeming qualities in those movies? A true professional can.
3) With all that being said, our beloved community is still a majority of kids who still think its cool to think something sucks. Heaven forbid they should be caught dead admitting they actually like or enjoy something.
People who don't like something will express their dislike of it. If you can't get over that, I think it's you that's just showing their own immaturity.
On topic: They look diseased.
I know, but now we can see them as a whole and somehow (still my opinion...) it doesn't fit completely. I said I don't like them on both genders, but even a bit less on the males.
Might only be me too, 'cause I never really like the Miqo'te tails with the too thin and thus pointy end @.@'
I have no idea if I can express myself properly right now... Bit of "RIP engrish" because I haven't slept that much last night. Sorry :S
I don't really like where the horns are located in the males, but i like the concept and the partially scaled skin, i'll be definitely trying them out, and i may change my main, even if i don't like the horns, the overall design is good.
I think a more beastly race would be mostly ignored by the player-base, and i can say it because that's what happens in most games, these races are mostly used by players who care more about stats than aesthetics.
Music, off hand. The fightscenes were much better scripted than the dialogue, though the Grevious fight was a bit dissapointing, Lucas film does still do some good visual work, (I prefer WETA, but silver isn't terrible).
On the other hand, Stating a dislike for something isn't childish. Lashing out is childish. Some of the people here have expressed well reasoned opinions for why they don't like the Au Ra. Would you care to give some positive feed back on their ability to provide negative feedback? a professional should be able to pull it off, after all.
Looks like the Miqo'te have competition for my favorite race.
Wanted to see a race with a bit more beast, horns and scales count lol. May have not been "as much" as I'd like but I suppose those would have added thousands of hours of model work or the best clipping you've laid eyes upon xD.
Overall looks cool but I hope there is a midriff slider, if I switch my race I would like to take out the hour glass shape the male has. Ripped plank wood please. Then again I may not just because I'm attached to my highlander ;(.
The female Au Ra reminds me of Crossbreed Priscilla :P
Nevertheless, I wanna know what is possible while creating them... NAO D:
I wonder if they'll add more voice options too?
A bit lore-ish: Would they worship the 12? I might not be up to date regarding such details.
Other than Tera or anything else, Final Fantasy has a very long tradition and many races are already known.
The problem is now if we remember nostalgic races like dragon-human-hybride from older FF games we at least expect them to be similar... (Demons dont have scaled tails!)
While it is true, that mostly we know just pixels of them, there is sometimes a detailed lore behind the race and we expect at least a bit in comon of those traditions...
There are more than 200 Monster-human-hybide possibilities if they like to do something new!
What dragon-human hybrids are there in past games? Ignoring Gria, there isn't really any that spring to mind readily, and they already look like the Gria minus the wings.
I think they did a good job with the females of making them look good, they have dragon features but still look human enough.
I like it! /thumbsup
I know some people may not think it goes far enough,
but any further than that and you hurt the amount of
people that will want to choose it. By making races look
similar enough to hyur, it ensures that people have a
very wide variety of choice without going off the deepend.
Its possible we may get something closer to a beastmen
in the future, but for now, I'm fine with this and welcome more
in the coming game.
Again, thats my opinion.
I wouldn't really consider them hybrids though. It'd be like considering the Qu amphibian-human hybrids. The Au Ra have pretty clear human attributes, they also have some dragon ones.
Also, the Bangaa don't worship Adrammalech. That's purely an FFTA thing, I don't think any of the Scions of Darkness are worshiped in XII.
Actually they could be, but maybe not in the sense of FFTA. The whole ivalice alliance block has connections going further than just being in the same world. In the original FFT, the scions of darkness were worshiped as angels despise being in reality demons. I may be wrong on the timeline, but as the people in Ivalice never really knew that the scions were demonic, they could have worshiped them thorough the ages until we meet them in flesh (sort of) in XII. But that's disgressing a bit as the Bangaa weren't there in FFT. Oh well.
And yeah I didn't mean to imply that Bangaa were hybrids. Just dragonic-ish figures in the FF series (monitor lizards are said to have inspired many dragon stories, and the Komodo dragon is the most known of them for that ^^)
my personal take on the Au'Ra, I'm glad the females will have the option to be as shown. I never liked having my characters big. I don't mind at all that the males tower over the females one bit and no I don't think it's sexist. if you ever paid attention to some families(traditional Italian comes to mind) the smaller females tend to be more dominant than their much larger male counterparts.
not to mention that new race is a fan service as mentioned before which means
wait for it.
wait for it.
yeah that's right the players of 1.0 asked for a race like this and the concensus' we have had in the past have had a big influence since more people tend to play the smaller females and larger males it isn't a big surprise we get that in the new race.

Less than 1/8 of legacy players who took the poll requested this type of race. It's actually 4th place in the poll, behind mammalian demi-beastmen, mixed heritage races (which have at least been confirmed possible in lore), and more clans for the existing races.
The majority of people will always choose a human-ish race, it's nothing new, especially in Japan, and they already have plenty to choose from.
Some of us however would have liked to have a little more diversity, it's fantasy and I enjoy it more when I can play something that truly feels different than what I am everyday.
